Too soon too carry on.Very depressing for them l feel.
Divisiony New Order - the way it should have stayed in honor of Ian - at least we could have been spared some of NO's last dismal efforts.....
Hooky is trying to sound like Ian here. Never even knew they played as a 3 piece til this. Good bit of history documented.
Dude! Could I get a one off of We All Stand at 22:15
Pre-white short-shorts
this is incredible
Love these JP Sessions. Turn The Heater On has been my fave since the 80s but it's ALL fantastic.
I love it! We didn't know what we had in the mid 80's!
Hour, I believe, is a version of Homage…
Two misconceptions in the comments below 1/ The lads actually got over Ian's death a lot faster than you are all imagining. The interviews lay bare to this that after a few weeks it was all about survival 2/ The lads had bills to pay and reputation to keep so they had little choice but to go to America which Ian was dreading going to. He despised everything America stood for. Atrocity Exhibition.
Hour reminds me of Wilderness...a fascinating document. Thanks for uploading
Hope this was a free gig, it sounds like a reet load of old pump!
'Truth' is so haunting and eerie here.
last track only - 586
I wish I would have met John peel and his crew.😊 I hear Bernie clearer than ever.😊 Perfect with the bass mate.
as a kid growing up in NE Kansas I got to hear John Peel one of the DJs at KJHK Lawrence Kansas (KU) had a friend in England and would get cassette tapes of shows previously aired usually a month prior JP was an absolute legend and I'll never forget the AWESOMENESS of his radio show and the bands I learned about 😊
Pretty rough recording, but that performance of Cries and Whispers is amazing. Very intense synth work on that track.
It is 2024 and this still sounds as ahead of its time as it did the first time I heard this album. (1993,I bought it in Manchester and played it in my friend's dorm in Swansea) Cool as ever.
Was Hooky singing a lot of the songs (Ceremony in particular)? I like what he did on Movement, but it's really a good idea he didn't end up the front man. Of course Barney couldn't sing much at the start either :)
Name change aside this period is still joy division in my book. And it's entrancing and bloody brilliant
I heard these sessions before I heard the first album..and Im still addicted to them even now
i remember seeing this performed LIVE in 1982!😂😂what a time to be alive!
Wow!!! That was pretty brutal! It’s amazing how quickly they turned things around and eventually became a great live band.
Thank you so goddamned much🤍 it means so much. Movement has always been and will always always always be my favorite New Order record. Ive recently been listening to my favorite tracks every day, over and over while at home and during my long daily drive (probably why the algorhythm suggested this:) The Him, Doubts Even Here, and Truth. Also Cargo Demo and Western Works🤍
This is amazing, so raw and genuinly heartrending. Rather than just trying to copy Ian, it feels like they’re actually channelling his spirit.
These raw live studio versions are so much better than the overproduced album versions. They played their hearts out for the late John Peel. Raw, Dark, and Moody…love it. I bought both 4-track John Peels on cassette in 1988 and then this 8 track CD in the early 90’s I believe. Great great album for traveling on the interstate - overnight in the middle of nowhere. Keeps you moving.
Great comment bro couldn't agree more. Like your story too in '88 traveling on the interstate overnight in the middle of nowhere...keep a watch out for those stranger things going bump...I'll bet it kept you moving. I'm a bit of a Doors man when it comes to traveling in the car with sounds. Can't beat LA Woman and Roadhouse Blues pumpin along. I'm a 60 y.o. Kiwi [New Zealander] and got into Joy Division and New Order in the '80s over here. Have never forgotten whe Blue Monday came out, blew my mind never heard anything like it, ahead of its time tbh...I even preferred New Order to The Cure...whoa watch that one might offend a few fans. I loved Low Life & Power, Corruption, and Lies awesome albums. Love Vigilantes was an anthem for me. The longer 17 minute version of Elegia is one of my fav songs from New Order. Your Silent Face on PC&L is beautiful. Also loved Movement. I prefer their earlier stuff however the later is great too. True Faith is a ripper. Check a small part of my story out - it's in the description to this scan of a newspaper article I featured in, in 1986, it's on my Flickr page [I'm a hobby photographer] here's the url: www.flickr.com/photos/35707376@N00/51986446472/in/album-72157649716035656

Great cover of Keith Hudsons (Turn the heater on ) by the gang! 💯👌🏽
I taste the water and the water tastes hot.... For whatever reason I love the line. What a tune! Stan is a magician!
as big a Fall fan i may be, my vote for best Peel sessions has to go here...
The falls second ever peel session is up there with this for sure.. If only for (put away) & (no xmas for John quays)
27:50 sounds like Steve started to lose his voice so Hooky jumped in 🤝
John Peel was an introduction to so many bands for many of us who were teens in that era. We owe him such a debt. His sessions always seemed to sound more raw and often better than the vinyl alternatives. Every time a new Peel session appeared on the radio i would be there with my finger on the Rec button, even if i didnt know the band, i knew it was going to be interesting or amazing. I discovered so many awesome bands that way. Thanks forever to John Peel and lets not forget the part John Walters played either. A fantastic radio show, a great person, never forgotten by me
thank god for Gillian
The beauty of the Peel sessions is they give another insight to incredible compositions and don't detract from either Movement and Power Corruption and Lies ,and Martin Hannett did definitely produce Bernard's voice to sound like Ian Curtis on Movement
🙏🙏🙏
Beautiful, thanks for the upload. Well articulated ;)
Strange to see a NO show where Barney sings on ONE song.
My favorite album track from 1982's "Call Of The West". I bought the CD in 2002 and i was like, wow, this is from 20 years ago and I really like it, it's awesome!
I bought the album the year it came out.
This is magnificent, giant gold nuggetts rolling from a mountain :: the emotions of our FINE YOUNG MEN...are pounding my soul back to life !!!
Awesome 👍👍😎😎😎 Stan da man
Escuchar "Hour" es como si realmente Joy division hubiese viajado a los EE.UU
NO. NW cultural heritage. Take Heed!! X
Sounds a hell of alot like Simon Topping on Procession.
This is my favorite track from 'Call of the West'; is just energizes me for work. It's a shame that Wall of Voodoo was largely dismissed after their one hit, and that the one successful commercial song is now taboo on 'regular' radio because P.C. people can't evaluate clever lyrics outside the context of our present time. I love 'Call of the West'; each track sounds so distinct yet the whole album speaks of vast Western deserts where strange things happen.
Morris voice is like lan cutis voice to me sent Achilles down my spine👽😎😊
I've always been fascinated about the existence of this first US tour. I'm deeply appreciative of this upload. And I'm a huge New order fan but from one N.O fan to another, this is a bit of a mess. I just finally heard the first Chicago appearance in 1983, it's on TH-cam and it's a tremendous evolution from this. I mean this criticism with the utmost respect. I love everything about New Order, except maybe for the fact that Hooky is not in it anymore.
The he'll is this
Bernard really starting to find himself by the 82 session, this and the Joy Division sessions are beautiful.
