Why I’m Leaving Portland, Oregon And You Should Too
Grew up in a Mid -Century Modern in So Cal. It was built in 1964. It had gorgeous wood beamed ceilings that peaked with glass on one wall and a brick fireplace on another wall. It wasn’t a large home, but it never seemed small to us. I had my own room.
Beautiful! 🤙🏼
Great idea of the skate park. Laurelhurst had always been one of my favorite parks.
@@lenatran2471 same!
Imagine that, legalize drugs, allow homelessness, and slow growth with regulations of building codes, and housing costs go up and then people leave. I wonder why! Lol
@@triquepersonalwork6369 hopefully people remember this when they vote
I thought about leaving after 2022 election and measure 113, but I'll refrain until 2024 election.
@@xisigma Where would you move to if it doesn’t pan out? And are you talking about local politicians being voted out? Who specifically, the mayor? I hope Rene makes it in personally. Cheers

And f Vancouver to most of the town is fully government gang stockers facts
I moved out of Portland OR to Milwaukie OR in 2021; and then moved back to Portland in 2023 as Clakamas County was too expensive for me. Do not move to Clakamas County iif you are low income... the support services are crappy.
I have neighbors that just moved in..now explain that!
My clients are getting epic deals in Portland! That’s how 😤😎🤝
@@LivinginOregonandWashington So people are getting good deals also on more expensive units. My neighbors are coming from Texas and Florida due to high insurance costs and high tax rates...getting good high tech jobs that support Intel in this area. So people are moving back! I just spoke to my friend who moved to Boise and wish he never left the Hillsboro area because the job situation is much better.
@@Buckseed Yeah I had friends move to Boise who now regret it. And people are still moving a ton to our area, just a bit less than before to Portland proper. The suburbs are still growing, especially Vancouver.
@@LivinginOregonandWashington We have people working here at Intel who are coming from Camas...compressed work week and nights because that commute can be a hassle during the day every day. I'm not sure the benefits of that area, as I have a place in Brookwood three miles from RA Intel. 10 minute drive...20 min bike ride. I can take the MAX if necessary with walking.
@@BuckseedCamas is like a mini Lake Oswego tax haven. But I wouldn’t want that commute!! I’d be looking for work at somewhere like Fischer’s investments if I worked over there.
If so many people are leaving Portland why are home values still going up? Could it be we are losing a lot of the non-productive people and replacing them with workers? IE lots of older white boomers (per capita the highest recipients of welfare) leaving and younger workers from California moving in?
Oregon is at a 9.1% shortage of homes, a couple percentages of population shift won’t do much-would need to see more rampant population decrease. Also, parts of Multnomah county housing prices are down year over year.
@@LivinginOregonandWashington Why would be short homes if people are leaving I don't understand?
@@jarethgarA 9.1% shortage minus a 2-3% exodus is still a housing shortage. The housing shortage is worse than people think! But like I said, there are definitely parts of East Portland leveling out (or even dropping) in price!
@@LivinginOregonandWashington Yeah East Portland is kind of a dump
I’m tired of the narrative that Portland parks and sidewalks are littered in used needles because that’s not the case at all. You literally sound like every other idiot who thinks Portland is the worst of the worst place to live. Yeah we got out problems here, yeah we have city leaders and voters who haven’t helped put this city in the right direction it should be going but that’s like any other city. People clearly haven’t seen the streets of Kingston, Philadelphia. It makes Portland look like the suburbs.
Did you watch the whole video? Seems like you missed most of the nuance of the conversation.
Unfortunately, time has run out. Choices have been made across the State of Oregon. Reside in misery. Notice the reporter watching carefully during the report. Indicative for reality.
Thanks for watching!
People are tired. We are moving over to Vancouver from Portland in November. I'm honestly just tired. We are also moving our business there. It's sad. I've lived here most of my life. I have to protect my children, though. Maybe families moving out will bring the young people back in?
There may still be hope. Reach out of buying or selling a home is part of your plans. Cheers (503)-957-7981
Nice skate park. Is the burnside bridge skate park still around?
@@portshore8552 It is! Iconic.
If your not from here by all means leave. It will make better.
As long as people are here to make it a better place I don’t mind. Would rather kick those out who are bringing the city down.
@@LivinginOregonandWashington like you Californians who have migrated over here
@@Hecto356I’ve lived in Oregon for 24 years.
True Californians outbid homes and crowd the roads, but they also bring money with them. The entire Oregon economy is dependent on its scenery attracting outside investment. Nike and Intel pay penny taxes since the city council bends over backwards for them.
@@xisigma agreed, people who are telling everyone to leave would live in a dump without all the outside investment and interest. Besides being a beautiful place, Portland’s problems haven’t tanked the city because we still have fresh people moving in with fresh ideas and outlook. Cheers
Beaver is just too damn smelly in Portland. On your next shoplifting spree ladies, don't forget the soap!
Portland is a horrible city.in the Eightys and 90s it was alot better, citys and nations get cursed when they turn from God. Tina kotex is a curse so ted wheller. Then they want this other Lady with like 100parking tickets. Defund the police antifia comon now.
Everyone says Portland was great in the 90s but that was when the last major crime wave hit Portland. We only broke a homicide record broke in the late 80s/early 90s in 2021 and we are already back below those levels. Portland was best in mid 2000s to early 2010s imo.
The main problem in Portland are homeless drug addicts, many of whom are mentally ill, having more "rights" than taxpaying renters, homeowners, and business owners. That's "progressive politics" in action. Add high taxes and lots of crime, and you've got a city that no longer works. Portland has had 3 inept mayors in a row, our version of "The 3 Stooges". When will it end?
I couldn’t agree more with this comment, it’s why I moved to Milwaulkie. Hopefully soon! But I got tired of waiting.
Most of these people voted for this. Liberals are based in fantasy rather than reality. Run to another county leave your Blue vote. We know you won't.
Just based on the political maps, Portland is definitely the deepest blue, Washington is still very blue, Clark and Clackamas county are a very soft blue. However, Clackamas has some red areas in Canby to Estacada area. From my experience, clients right of center tend to move to those places. Places like Milwaukie, Oregon City and Clackamas proper are still very much down the center where you have neighbors from all political affiliations! I personally like the later, because it prevents echo chambers and prevents polarization. We are a democracy built on many ideas. Perhaps a next video idea? Thanks for commenting and watching.

Now mix in International Visitors that haven’t a clue about rules of the road and have very basic command of the English language (looking at you Miami 🤨) and then throw in Drivers who think the speed limit on I-95 is 95 mph and THAT’S why insurance costs are the most expensive in the Nation! Lived in Portland, Phoenix, and Atlanta and Portland is by FAR the worst in terms of homelessness and property crime. and it way more expensive
@@ToughLuckStudio Atlanta has a property crime rate of 75.4 while Portland is at 72.3. Portland is also lower than USA average on violent crime, Atlanta is 2.5x worse. Portland’s property crime isn’t usually armed and is petty criminals/addicts. Phoenix has a violent crime rate nearly double the national average. Phoenix average home price is at $418,000-not far off Portland at $528,000. At 5:16 you will get an appreciation for why Portland is a relative bargain. We are far greener, have more moderate temperature, and will still have drinking water in 2040. The amount of people flocking to the sunbelt right now is absurd given they already had extremely tight water constraints in most areas. If we are going to compare lets at least do it away from whatever the headline news is telling you to think! be safe. portland has become a cesspool of drugs, property crime, and homelessness. Keep your head on a swivel and don't leave anything in your car.
Man, I am not gonna lie. I am from Vancouver BC and many people here used to go to Portland twice a year to shop for luxury items and everyday essentials because we would save a ton of money doing so with the low sales taxes. But after covid, which led to high inflation and high interest rates and stronger USD, we don't save any money coming to shop in Portland. But one day I really do hope to buy a property in Oregon on a beach front property overlooking Pacific Ocean.

Yeah right, never mind all the homeless and stolen garbage along marine drive. Best thing I ever did was leave that trash city
Where’d you move to?
What a weird video. I was walking around downtown late at night last weekend, there was a live jazz show in the center of a perimeter of food trucks, all ages mingling. Old couples walking hand in hand, I had just missed a dance show two blocks from Red Square, which itself was peaceful. LOTS of people out walking around, some obviously homeless. Couples young and old sitting down by the river, a young family passing a baby carriage along, three young guys fishing. I saw one young woman doing that standing bent in half thing that is indicative of fentanyl use, so yeah that exists. She was standing near five or six tents in a small cluster. I walked ALL OVER downtown (used to live there and know my way around really well - now I'm out in Clackamas). Portland is a beautiful and very friendly city that is having the same difficulty with unhoused populations as everywhere else.
@@evoxideo Portland definitely has the nightlife if that’s what you’re looking for! 🕺🪩
It's all shit, a move to a suburb is not a move.
I enjoy the suburbs of Portland, personally.
Downtown became a literal sh*t hole and still is one despite wheeler. Now you have to be a doctor or lawyer to live downtown. Or homeless.
I get it: you sell property so it's marketing. But the rest of America is telling coastal liberal mornons who voted their states into 3rd world status to stay where they are. YOU ARE NOT WELCOME IN OTHER STATES. Specifically the San Francisco and Portlanders trying to move away. You guys voted this braindead turbo black violence / immigrantization / theft rich environment into existence and the rest of the country doesn't want you tracking the same shit inland to their safe clean communities. That being said goodness the coast had some damn beautiful properties lol
Milwaukee is just Portland west. In fact when did Milwaukee become pride town? Its a nothing town with homeless people already coming here. There is no business here. Its a crappy high school / mall area

Portland is quite spread out of the city center. it is made up of six sections: Northeast Portland,Northwest Portland,North Portland, Southeast Portland,Southwest Portland and South Portland.
There’s a lot of Portland that gets missed. South Portland and West Portland especially seem mostly untouched for the most part!
You’re getting what you’re Voting for, why move if you’re going to keep voting for garbage!
I was in NE SE Gresham recently and it was like an insane asylum in a landfill. Ppl were drugged out insane and I've never seen so much garbage on the streets. I have had family in Portland for decades, and downtown was always a touch rough, but it is just crazy now. Awful and sad. jmo

The opioid-> heroin-> fentanyl epidemic has been a disaster for Portland. Mild winters; tolerant attitudes, decriminalization of drugs and legal camping has resulted in the drug addicted and mentally ill roaming the streets of Portland in the thousands. In Portland, homeless encampments are situated in front of people’s homes and businesses. Dangerously unsanitary conditions, graffiti, vandalism, theft and violence overwhelm city services. Decades ago state mental asylums fell out of favor; now, our cities are mental asylums. The current model is absurdly inefficient and downright stupid not to mention inhumane in the extreme.
