A solution: don't use a wooden boat. Use the bamboo raft instead. It worked for me on Java 1.21.

Thanks so much man works in 1.21 multiplayer server i even used leaves cuz glass was too expensive but it worked, although it caught fire sometimes so glass is still better but great tutorial! also reminder to carry extra 28 obsidian for portal in the overworld

You died, you hit the ground too hard attack by a Shulker

It dose not work any more for some reason. The way phantoms get in boats are different and it dose not let you hit them. If you however, use a bamboo raft the hit box is smaller and you can hit them from the top. Also, you need be using at least piercing three or this will not work

Can confirm it works in 1.21, although sometimes the ghast will not be within reach of the fishing rod and you'll have to go down one block. It should still work but it requires some skill because the ghast will try to blow you up

Ok I figured it out.. after you break kelp and don’t get the bubbles Then replace that block with the soul sand and you will get the bubbles lol I was about to be mad at all that glass wasted lol

I just lava casted (you can always just make a nether portal too!)

the way i got this was putting a sheep and cow in a hole, hitting each a couple times, putting one salmon and one cod into the hole then spawning a snow golem which fell into the hole and quickly killed all 5 mobs

Do wandering traders count?

You can also replace the Chicken and Villager with a Goat and Armour Stand if you do not want to risk not hitting the Chicken and do not want to move a Villager into the hole.

This doesn't seem to work anymore (1.20.2). The hit boxes for the phantoms no longer sticks out below the boat, so it's almost impossible to hit them without breaking the boat instantly. Is there an alternate method?

I keep breaking the boat with my axe. Most annoying achievement so far

Only 1 of the hitboxes of the phantoms show up for my, I ended up using 2 boats with 4 phantoms which worked

i built the thing and i waited and a funny thing happened because the ghast instead spawning in the box it spawned right in the portal and it teleported to the overworld

Tip if it doesnt work: Eat an op gap. The absorption ran out too quick because of the damage of the wither rose so i suggest eating an op gap if you can afford one!
