Helping you find a little more Zen in your life
I live in the countryside of Japan.
I used to be an attorney and a university professor.
A recent TEDx speaker.
I also interview interesting folks and share some insight on the Zen Sammich podcast.
When not doing that, I make traditional Japanese paper (called "washi") with my wife.
I love good cigars, damn fine coffee, Japan, travel in general, and humor.
On a mission to spread a little calm, kindness, and a few laughs to the world.

How To Lead An Interesting Life
Earl Bridges lives by that mantra - "Just don't bore me" - documenting some good in the world all along the way.
He is a “philanthropologist.” In his PBS TV show, “The Good Road,” he travels the world unearthing stories about people who are doing good without any concern for their well-being.
From stories about filming in places of civil unrest to almost getting ‘smushed’ by the world’s largest elephant in Kenya, this is a don’t-miss episode.

I can dig it bro. Consider me on that path of looking at certain things ❤
@@user-iv5fc8sj8x There you go! That's the spirit.
Suspected ADHD doesn't allow that.
@@garyhyndman1105 Yeah, I can imagine that makes it a little more difficult. Try anyway, Gary.
What? “Later beeotch” doesn’t work over there?
Wish I could stop overthinking 😪 It's the thing I struggle with the most on my spiritual path 🙏 I need to re- start meditation, that helped me a lot.... that and CBT exercises I learned from my therapist.
@@GoddessFirstClass2882 It certainly takes practice, Goddess. Nobody is great at it right away. All the best to you.
❤
Gratitude and acceptance. You nailed it. I've practiced gratitude before, but acceptance is essential, and hard to practice. But we have the material needed in front us everyday.
I guess with all the white guys owning guns in the US, "white noise" is a good way to describe gunshots going off in the background.
Great fun was had by all
This show is gonna keep getting better and better...
That closing line!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah, I figured that was my best sales pitch for this one.
@@ZenSammich It's brilliant!!!
great podcast ❤❤
Thank you for the kind words!
i just saw your channel on Elllo while i learning English, your podcast is great!
Thanks so much, Minh!
Very knowledgeable words..
Thank you, Sha!
It works while listening. Thanks from South América
Thanks, I needed this.
Glad it resonated with you!
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man...
That's true. Keep abiding, dude.
You mentioned not worrying about things you can do nothing about. I like John Cleese's solution: "when people (myself included) are anxious they tend to busy themselves with irrelevant activities, because these distract from and therefore reduce their actual experience of anxiety. To stay perfectly still is to feel the fear at its maximum intensity, so instead you scuttle around doing things as though you are, in some mysterious way, short of time." So if you're worried about the future, get busy doing stupid things & you'll be less anxious 😂
Great advice my friend, I had to realize I can't control everything that effects my life, but I can anticipate it and learn to control my reaction to it. Not everything needs you to change it. Understand it, learn the lesson then let it go
You are wise beyond your Canadian citizenship.
Aaaaaaannnnddddd... like always... you hit on something I've been struggling with. Love you, brother (imagine that in a Hulk Hogan voice, lol)
OOH YEAH! (imagine my response, meaning "I love you too," in a Randy "Macho Man" Savage voice)
I'm so digging this platform for you ❤❤❤
Thank you and me too. TH-cam is working out better for me these days than it did a few years ago. Eventually, I think it will surpass my Spotify and Apple Podcast downloads.
Finally another one that thinks similar. Edit: For clarity.
Lol, I've answered that before with 'oh, just life' and a big grin. It throws people off, and they DON'T ASK anything else, lol...
Haha. Well, that works too.
My brother!!! Perfect!!
I mean, we all get that question now and then, right?
nah people are just shy sometimes.
Well, like I said, it's not a 100% science, but these are indicators sometimes.
What my brain took from that was a lesson on how to make myself a better liar 😂😂 I all seriousness, I will be looking for those signs when talking to people, thank you man!
Haha. Yeah, I worried a little about that when I recorded this. Do the right thing, Sam. Use your powers for good, my friend.
@@ZenSammich don't worry, I try to use your tips for good, not for selfish gain. Trying to be better every day, love your channel, it really helps me.
you're absolutely spot-on! It's like playing a sport: before the match, good athletes visualize what's going to happen. They mentally perform their steps/moves/motions & then execute during the match or performance. That's why before I hit the dance floor, I visualize John Travolta bustin' a move & then BOOM! I'm cutting the rug like a professional carpet layer! For real!
"I don't want any word salad, I'm full" -Forrest Valkai
Haha! I might have to borrow that one.
😂
Excellent message! 👍
Thanks so much, Garry! I always appreciate you listening.
I love your longer video ❤
Thank you, Goddess. I hope to continue releasing one each week.
Slow and low... that is the tempo.
Haha! I actually started singing that after reviewing the vid. I still love the Beastie Boys!
Thanks for that great help
My pleasure. Glad it resonated, Victor.
Great advice!
Good one, Mark!
Thank you! Poured a little heart, with a dash of soul into this one.
@@ZenSammich Your soul searching shows.
Couldn't agree more - and I think you don't need to know what your purpose is, for example my great great great grandparents just needed to exist and have children, so that their great great great grandchild, who they would never meet, couldn't even know would exist, could write a book that might change the world. So at the root your purpose is just to exist, everything else helps pass the time :-)
Fascinating!
All things in moderation my friend :-)
🙏
When you're on the steps and motion "c'mon"... And when your laughing and cheering at the sumo tournament. Both made me smile. 😊
Both genuine. I go to that particular sumo tournament every year in November.
Brilliant!!! 🙏
Thank you, Goddess!
Love it!
ive watched the last half hour a lot of your short videos videos and i really have to say that you give very good tips for better interactions with other people and you also give good perspectives and reasons why and how to do things . thats really a good thing . thank you for your work .if everybody would just have to take one video as a liferule for themself the world would be so much better place ! best wishes 🙂
So glad it resonated with you, Philip!
Which place is the background looks familiar to me ?
It's Japan. This is where I live. The background is just a spot near my house.
Thank you for teaching me to be a better liar
It's crazy to think....I came up with this same concept while I was out golfing with buddies. I knew my buddy had a taylormade ball. When looking for his shot, he yells out "found it!" I walk over, see it is a Callaway ball; wait about 10 seconds and asked him, "you sure this was your drive bro?" He was so jumbled up LOL. Everyone knew he was lyin out his ass
Haha! It's amazing how silence can speak volumes sometimes.
That's a pretty good tip Sir. Thank you.
These are really cool tips
Much appreciated, my friend.
Ok, I feel like you posted that just for me! Love it!! ❤ Thank you so much for putting these little snippets of wisdom out there in the world. 🙏 Please know that you helped one person today. Many blessings to you and your family ❤
That's so nice to hear. Thank you, Goddess!
u earned my sub cuz of tgat outro u threw out there lol
Hahaha. Thanks, Zac. Just thought I'd let everyone know what I'm here for.
I'd make the best lawyer!! 😂😂😂
I know you would!
Amazing!
Thank you for this tip as well 🙏 ❤
