Hi Graham great video! Thank you for sharing your real world feelings and reasons for making the choices you have made. I too have owned a 2022 N40 and enjoyed its sailing performance in light to medium wind and seas. I sold it with the intention of buying an O49 or O51, or perhaps an older Catana 47. But I keep coming back to the Nautitech line. I test sailed the N44 but was not impressed. It was just a notch above the O40, not light years ahead. I’m even considering a used 2019 or 2021 N46 to hold me over until I can commit to sailing around the world 😂 thanks for sharing.

You mentioned the excess cat, did you give these a test? The excess 14 looks like a nice combo of price, size, performance, but maybe at a lower end of quality?

Still very happy with my 18 yr old SMG50 plus. IMO: Best compromise on price, performance, safety, strength, quality, sea worthiness and movement, ease of sail (even single handed) and maintenance. Not a lot of them around though.

Interesting point of view, are they using the same carbon as Lagoon, in the baulk-heads…..? Oh no, that’s cardboard, my bad! 😂

Thank you for not making a 'bashing, egotistical' video. Now subscribed, because you're NOT interested in becoming a TH-cam-channel ! I always thought an open exterior helm was not in my interest, but you put forward more facts for me to consider this. Even the open helm- cat companies don't say what you talk about ! Please keep on with more videos. Even if you talk in the background and show your boat sailing in many conditions, will be fabulous. Maybe you take out paying sailors on short trips? I'm interested, let me know, and if that's not possible, no problem. I've spent 22yr. on the ocean (as a farmer)- I miss the water.Thank you, continue posting. Nice video- thanks! Why dyneema got caught in the rig? If it was the dyneema to lift the slanted batten at the top I am curious how there was enough slack in it to get stuck in the spreader?

Very I interesting video. I have sailed monohulls all my life, currently a First 501. She is very old now but has served her purpose and value for the money. Could it have been a Hallberg or an Oyster? I would have loved that, but my bank balance would not have. I have now given up work and retired for good. A cat would suit me but probably not brand new, again the money. Looking at the TH-cam of the 44, that might be the one. I want to cover the miles on passage, not look like a three story villa on two hulls or a charter yacht. Enjoying the hands on sailing is also very important. Outremer is to near the edge for me, fast cruising is what I am looking for. Thanks for the video, food for thought.

Great videos - so informative and from a “proper sailor” rather than a You Tuber wanting to make content or salesman wanting to sell the boat. Thank you! apologies, I keep saying O51 I mean O52...I did look at used 51.2 , but the design is quite old and values are beginning to drop as people want the new shape, plus I think the old design whilst great and probably legendary is just too tight for space for many modern buyers, though not all of course. If you dont mind the lesser space I actually in some ways think the O51 a better buy than the 52, and now prices are coming down its attractive

Some good insights there Graham, I guess also with the N48 that everything feels very familiar. I think they have done a good job evolving these designs from the 40 (or Lombard YDG has), fine tuning the concept and making use of the extra metres. Did you go for a stack pack on the new boat or in-mast?

Hello Graham. We also noticed your comparison and analysis of the differences between Nautitech and Outremer. We were allowed to test drive the 52 in front of la Grande Motte. We sailed the N40 O and N46O in Croatia. Both older Boats. We are family of 3 and some friends. Currently Sailing a new Elan I43 in Greace to compare Monohull feeling.

Hi Graham, thanks for your video, interesting. My wife and I live in New Zealand, we are looking at a second hand Open 40 (brand new are around NZ$1.3m!!) as it suits our requirements for coastal cruising in NZ, just wondering when Nautitech's manufacturing went downhill and when they fixed that in terms of the Open 40 build years as we don't want to buy a vessel with a bunch of build issues, are you able to advise please?

I liked this video. At first I thought I might not, but the way you tell the story of your journey was entertaining and seemed genuine, without any “agenda”. Look forward to hearing more about the experience.
