This was interesting and exaclty what I needed to see. I am also at a point where I was once int he 3d field, and I left for a job in software for more money and I've come to a point where I regret it. I have very little passion for what I do now, where I had tons of passion for 3d. I was burnt out, and I was frustrated and I took a grass is greener job. I regret it, and I am at a point where I want to go back to doing something i love and enjoy.

fyi, learning to draw will up your 3d game by a huge margin. All sculptors were trained as draftsman first, both back in the Renaissance and today. Proko's channel is a great starting point for this

Your experience with ZBrush was very much similar to mine haha. I wish I could be naturally good at sculpting, but it's still a very strange workflow for me! In comparison, modeling in Blender feels so much more comfortable (and I'm not even an expert at that either). I think it's because sculpting is more akin to "drawing" than modeling, which is slightly based on logic and maths.

Failure is the correct first step to success. You're meant to be crap at everything when you first start it. So you've successfully managed the first step. Now it's dedication time, and you suffer for your art like everybody else. And if a mic has a clip, clip it on will you? Drives me nuts seeing people waving a clip-on mic in front of their dish.

Fellow newbie 3D modeler here: really enjoying your series! Maybe an idea for branching out in the future could be trying a low-poly style? I've been spending a lot of time doing that recently.

You're hard on yourself, but that looked great in the end! Hats off to you for walking away from Blender to save your sanity, then coming back and knocking it out of the park. I'm learning to use Blender to create add-ons and clothing for Daz3D figures and it makes me want to scream. Keep at it!

That takes some balls, for real. You could always pick up the old career if you really needed to. But well done for having the courage. I like V.R. and I sometimes wonder if it would be possible to make V.R. rooms in Blender. Good luck with everything.

The 3d artist you contacted were either full of shit, or it was a 3 month contract, doing the building and everything from scratch. 99.9% of 3d artists do not make 10k+ a day or even a month.

You should try blockbench. It doesn't allow for sculpting nor high resolution texture drawing, but it lets you learn the basics of 3D modeling really well. It is advanced enough to make some sick low poly models. It is generally used for Minecraft models, but it can do much more than that. It introduced me to 3D modeling. I am still overwhelmed by blender and haven't quite gotten started, but it made me less scared of 3D modeling and made me realize it really is something I could potentially do.

theres this school thats super affordable, plus the instructor has a youtube channel. His name is Grant Abbot and he has these easy to learn courses with game dev. I learned about him on a platform called Udemy. Now, the prices do seem high, but each week there are sales and sometimes you can get most classes for $9.99 like say we are near black Friday, that'll for sure happen. Most flash sales are either $15.99 or as low as $10.99. My point is, Grant Abbot has many classes and they each teach different aspects of blender and if he doesn't know something, he introduces someone who does like the nodes you mentioned in your videos. The reason I am telling you this cuz why not. You inspired me just now and also Grant has this way of teaching you things and you don't seem to forget it. Like, I been to where you are but unlike you, I gave up. I was beyond confused and I couldn't remember anything, that is until I found Grant Abbot. Even now, I am returning to blender (PS, I didn't leave it cuz it was hard, I left it cuz the amount of things and programs shoved it aside and I was deeply sad about this, until I decided to cut the fat and I'm now down to 2 programs. Clip Studio and Blender) I still remember the majority of what he taught me. I hope this helps you on your own journey, you are far braver than I will ever be. But perhaps.... I can finally achieve my own dreams. Thank you Daisy. Love your name btw. ps, like I said. Each week has different sales so just wait a bit for one to pop up or a better sale appears. again, as low as $9.99 but those are for major holidays. Pss. The classes are also one time purchase. Totally forgot to mention that. So pay once, own until our existence is over.

I resonate heavily with this. I left a career in bioengineering to pursue AI Anime film making full time. Moved back home, gave up my EV (that part still hurts my soul, I'll get her back one day). I hated my old job, but now I love my new career and am now ready to start working with clients. This gives me an idea on how to create a video to explain who I am on my own portfolio. Thanks for posting this. I'm adding this straight into my "artistic inspiration" playlist.

Learning art can be hard especially 3D so the most important thing is to have fun while doing it, to keep motivated. In saying that I would also suggest to think about focusing more in on a topic/area you want to learn just because the world of 3D is really deep and you can easily get lost in perfecting all the technical stuff that you may or may not use during a commercial project. But I wouldn't let that discourage you from giving anything you find interesting a try once or twice or more. You never know what you may discover about yourself and its important to follow your passion with this stuff too, because you will spend so long doing it.

This video made me so happy. I like hearing about people who get into 3D art out of the blue or out of left field. I'm also glad you are being realistic about it and supporting yourself financially while you learn. 3D art is a very competitive field and it can sometimes be a struggle to find enough work, but it looks like you are good at marketing yourself. And it's awesome that you are learning just for the joy of it.

I recently quit my job where i was getting paid poorly and eventhough it was a creative studio, I just felt like I wasn't really growing too much or being given tasks that let me try the things i wanted to do. So i made the leap and quit my job to do my own digital art... I am now very unemployed, but I have so much time to develop my own style and skills for myself.

People have it so easy nowadays, when Blender can operate on polygons that have more than 4 edges. PS. I'm also stunned that you have your reference on other screen, rather than use it in Blender. There's an option to have a background image for such purposes. PS.S. You can do a fluid simulation, or use a displacement texture. Or... Use a plain plain (xD), subdivide multiple times and sculpt along edges of things that are in milk, and along bowl. PS.S.S Do a medieval well next time. ;)

And where's Wings 3D? xD But seriously now. If you want to learn how to model anything, and characters in particular, learn about topology, namely edge flow and edge loops. There are some places that require vertices that have 5 edges connected to them. You will save a lot of time and headache by doing so.
