Thank you. This was helpful.
Great info! Danke. I had to write that last statement in bold in my notebook. Oh, yeah, #duck
Excellent book review that isn't afraid to give an opinion! I just did a tiny habit-- breathe.🧘
Thanks for your comment, taking a deliberate breath to calm down (for example) is a great habit!
I think both books are good, the only issue (which is true with most pop-sci/self-help books these days) is that they are 50-100 page ideas stretched out with filler to make them ~300 page books
I like your view on life and your processes and ideas speak to me. Thank you - look forward to more. ‼️
Thanks so much for your comment, glad you like my stuff!
Nice vid. I'll have to give it a shot. I have TONS of books I've been wanting to read.
Never gets less haha
Yeah. I've read both and I thought Tiny Habits was better.
So helpful :)
Short answer: Yes. For starts, one was written by a psychologist and the other was written by a jock. BJ Fogg has been ignored by the publishing industry. He deserves better
Great videos! Glad I stumbled on your work! #duck
Thanks so much for your comment! Glad you like my stuff 🦆
Yes. It's more forgiving and doesn't have the "don't break the chain bs" also tiny habits has a free coaching program online. You don't even need to read the book to get started, they'll get you started building your own tiny habits.
Atomic Habits was in part based on the priciples of Fogg (which came before, in his academic work). Clear credits Fogg‘s method in the chapter on habit stacking. I think Tiny Habits is the much better book. I read both twice and worked through both in detail. „Atomic Habits“ seems much more theoretical. Somewhat said that „Atomic Habits shows the what, Tiny Habits shows the HOW.“ IMO, AH takes up way too many pages without concrete instruction. It only SOUNDS practical, but is hard to actually apply.
It only SOUNDS practical, I love that!
@@21cormorants that’s way more work than 99% of readers put into reading any book. I’ve also found that I learned so much more by really intensifying my look at atomic habits and what’s behind it. I’m glad I could help you deepen that learning journey!
No guruing around, just analysing and comparing two books in what feels like a well balanced review. Awesome. Apparently not the stuff youtube wants to see a lot iof, but hey, the algorithm send me here :-) #duck
Thanks for your kind words! Glad you found your way here ^^
I read Mini Habits and, therefore, never read Tiny Habits. Atomic Habits is still on the bookshelf. Maybe I'll take a gander at these...
Would you recommend mini habits?
I am yet to finish Atomic Habits. Started it many times - paper, digital & audio. Just get too bored with it.
Looks like it’s not meant to be then, there are enough other books, if you’re interested in the topic!
You could try Tiny Habits. I had the same problem with Atomic Habits.
Took long for such a video to pop up 😅 I wouldn’t say james is a knockoff or inspired. James lived what he wrote. Practical stuff. B.j. Is in academia. Mechanisms and charts. Choose what you want.
To the point
#duck hallöchen
In my opinion, yes, I think Tiny Habits is the better of the two. The Fogg Behavior Model has had more of an impact in my life in the past five years than almost anything else I’ve learned from a book or TH-cam.
Thanks for your comment! It really is a great model which too few people know about.
An excellent summary of both books. Thanks for sharing them.
Thanks for your comment! Glad you liked it!
Had fun watching this one. Thank you for introducing Tiny Habits!

#duck ! I read your about section, which I always read for any page to give me an idea about the channel's creator. I like that your content is short and to the point : )
Thank you! 🦆
Thanks for your wise advice. I come from a generation that reading was our main form of entertainment, our way of looking for answer to life's problems, and our way of looking for a mentor.
Thank you so much for your comment, I appreciate it, I'm glad you like the video!
“Just write and let that be enough. “

#duck I am currently reading a quite complicated novel for the third time, because I tried to read the sequel several years later, and couldn't remember the main plot points. I think you might like the "Library of Awe" practice I included in one of my recent videos, where I suggest that people *really* come to terms with the vastness of human knowledge to accept that they can immerse themselves rather than skimming the surface - because no amount of skimming is going to solve the "problem." Hooray for slow reading (slow learning, slow living etc.)!
I couldn't live without it...
I’ve been considering starting a journal, and I really appreciate your support. I intend to prioritize my own thoughts and experiences, treating the journal as a cherished collection of memories and gifts. 🌸🌷
That sounds amazing, make sure to start right away and not think too hard about it. Even if it's just a few sentences, get started while you have the early motivation ;)
I really like journaling but I had to temporarily quit a few months ago. All my entries began to turn bitter with hate and self-criticicism. I realized it was becoming weeks and weeks of just self hate and anger at other people. I tore some pages out and burned them. It was cathartic, actually. I didn't see the point in continuously tapping into that. I am keen to pick it up again, though.
@WhatsWrongWithTheStreet My journal is a continous rant. Which is ok, because I need to vent and I do live alone. I never read my old entries, due to them being mosty angry or sad. To balance it, I write two or three positive things in an A6 planner at the end of each day. Just something that was nice about the day, like a giant spidernet glowing in the autumn sun or how my bread turned out to be perfect, a compliment I got etc. My life is goid and I know it. And whenever I need, I can read about the little things that give me joy.
@@y.sangare1238 Thanks for replying. I wrote in my journal last week. First time in quite a while and I really enjoyed the time. I wrote about 10 pages and steered myself from negative thoughts. It was a wonderful experience and I want to get back to it. I realize I need to make boundaries for myself when journaling.
I am usually quite surprised at what appears on the paper as I write & just keep writing for a bit longer, relax into it
#duck I fully agree. I timeblock my week with the inevitable tasks (work, official appointments) to see how much time I have for the stuff I *really* want to do. ;-)
To me journaling is being too much inside yourself. I write by copying passages from a book just because it feels good - the feel of a fountain pen on paper and the look of the words. Some words have a natural balance, some are asymmetrical. It’s an art form.
I think it's always good to go on a journey, try new things and see where this will lead you. When I started my TH-cam channel three years ago I did that because I wanted to try making videos about what interests me. A friend asked me - very carfully not to offend me - if I really wanted to make a fool of myself. And I answered yes and that I hope to find my way. And I'm still here and the comments show me that I can give something to the world. And so will you.
Thanks so much for you comment! Sometimes, you need to make a fool of yourself to become better at something
Journaling for me is a kind of thinking through my pen. Finding new thoughts while writing. I started it after I read Julia Cameron's "The artist's way". I'm far from journaling on a daily basis but I learned that it helps me get rid of thoughts that bother me and keep those that are remarkable. And - as you say - it's crucial to write by hand because there is a connection between hand and brain.
#duck 😉
Exactly, it helps bring a little bit of order to our brain 😃
Journaling is recording the past known. Life is growing into a future unknown, letting go of the past.
Great information
#duck 😂
This is why I journal, its in the moment, it's the process, not the final outcome. My only difference is that I art journal, rather than write. It brings me immense pleasure and has no other purpose than that.
YOu are doing it for all the right reasons. Keep on going.
Hello, my fellow countryman! Just found your channel and am delighted by your content - and taste in music and hobbies! ;-) I had the same exerience with the diving board and the heights, many years ago, adn fully agree on your conclusion. Keep it coming - I'll keep watching.
Thank you so much for your kind comment! 😃
Love this video keep posting bro!
Thanks!
the reason why I keep writing was because I felt good after pouring down my thoughts. only when you feel the goodness from writing, that you want to strive for more. I'm just writing on clipboard, A4 paper, and one good fountain pen.
#duck - Really enjoyed this take on journalling - thank you!
"Grounding you in the moment." If there is 'magic' in journaling, this would be it. 💗
I don't think I've really experienced... any of these problems. Maybe part of the reason is because I'm just getting back into books this year, but I feel like I have the opposite problem, in some ways? I've always been a slow reader, as far as I can tell, and that's always been disappointing to me - but - I've never sought any advice on how to "read faster," I am well aware that I _can_ and am conscious of the fact that trying would almost certainly take something away from the experience. So I don't bother. However when I was a kid I'm pretty sure I would read for hours. Now I get tired easily (like my brain can't handle the worldbuilding it has to do, lol) and while I will apparently read in relatively large chunks, sometimes, I'm more inclined to do it if there are clear stopping points for me to blow past, and not for longer than forty five minutes. Basically I like reading slow, and I don't care about reading as many books as possible either, but I kinda read like I'm watching a six hour movie divided into TH-cam shorts at my leisure. And I'm not really sure I want to be the "Quibi" of readers either.
I read somewhere that every person needs three notebooks: 1 for scheduling, 1 for stray thoughts, and 1 for daily journaling.... I found it intriguing but I haven't practiced it. Thank u for your reminder that journaling is important in any style.
@@MrRosebeing that's true too; my usual idea dump is Google sheet
This is a fantastic little video. Helped my confidence alot, I doubt my journaling technique alot.
Thanks, glad it helped you!
There is no journaling technique. It's just writing down your thoughts on paper or on hard-drive. It's not hard.
@@MrRosebeing I would urge paper and pencil. But if typing works for you, keep on going.
Very good video. Well said. This is so true. We should enjoy something like a hobby, just for the joy of it. We have to do better to be happy than to be hustling.
