Hi, my name is Deering Dave! I love tractors (especially International Harvester on steel wheels), my 1964 IH Scout and IH pick-up, Bluegrass music & preserving the history that goes along with all of it. Join me as I repair and rebuild antique tractors and items around the homestead. We'll tour some interesting places and talk to people who have great stories to share. I'm a piano technician by trade and have a Bluegrass band where I play banjo & dobro. Some of the music you will hear in the videos are songs I've written.
Thanks for joining me. Settle in and let's get to it!

HOOKSTOWN, PA TRACTOR SHOW 2024
Hookstown Fairgrounds in NW PA was the site of the IHC Chapter#16 local show Sept 13-15, 2024. There were a lot of interesting tractors and equipment on display. I highlight the older entries as we take a walk through the grounds.
A lot of hardworking folks went into making this show top notch. I want to give a special shout out to Buster Miller, Hookstown Fair board member and IHC Chapter #16 member, who did a great job of organizing this event.
See you on the flip side,

Steel Tractor Wheels Use Rubber to Protect Ground and Trailers
Howdy, wondering if you can help me confirm the age of my farmall? Tag shows T-91387 The stamp # is 9138 right in front of the rad left side rail. Thank you!
Thanks, Dave I've just bagged a Mc-D T20 crawler to keep my 10-20, W30, and W40 company. I am looking out for either a F20 or Regular.
@CarlHargreavesRustyRelicsUK Those two models seem to be the most obtainable here in the states due to their high production numbers...most of the tractors I acquire now are from other collectors. Good luck!
Hello Dave, Since we last spoke, I scored a running Regular in original condition with great patina and also a F-20 with a locked up engine. (It was too cheap to miss.) My old Pop is keen to dive into the F-20. So it was worth getting to give the old man a project.
Don't use your pinky use a match stick or an teaspoon. The chemicals in the glue can burn a hole in you finger.
Hi, any update on how the boot repair holds on? Nice to hear one, since its been 2years by now. Thanks
@@ningwar Still waterproof!
I had the 2 economy Jim dandy’s down there
I saw this tractor at Penns Cave the weekend before this show 9:18
Are those IH chickens?
How many tractors made today will be running 90 years from now?
old inner tube plus contact cement
i have 1 regular that i ran up in 67 5 f20 they were way ahead of the game
Regulars had 3 3/4 bore and the f-20s by 5 inch stroke the f-30s had 4 1/4 bore by 5 inch stroke I don't know if they had and f-30 size regular though
No they didn't. The first Farmalls that we call Regulars were all 1 size. The F series had 4 different sizes. Some didn't need that big a tractor wasting fuel others needed a bit bigger probably because if heavier land.
Personally I prefer soaking the plugs in vinegar for a day or two. Its amazing how it softens up the carbon. I use a wire brush working the bristles down the barrel. Then I burn the remainder off with a torch. It still leaves the insulator dark in colour. I have to wonder how much this affects performance. Just like new? Maybe not but it does extend the life in my experience.
Great video. Thanks
Track looks a little muddy, but a great showing of tractors!
When I was a kid, we had a F12, was that a regular?
No. Regulars were built 1923 to 1931.. F -12s were not only smaller, but built later... from 1933 to 1938. The F-20 replaced the regular , (size-wise). F-20 was built from 1932- to 1938.
Not sure how the lines got there...
So I was under the impression that the f20s had 4 different transmissions. Based on wheel size and other things. Some had a fast 4th and some had a slow 4th. Also the you could get what I belive was M&W govener for the f20s. Also the later ones you could put wheel weights on the rears. Also some had the hiester overdrive. Also the castle gears can be opened and the gears pulled out spun 180 degrees and put back in and that tightened up the front end. Also those inspection covers on the engine block was for adjustment of of the crank shaft races. As the motor got older there where shims that could be pulled out or added to get the engine back in shape. Also through those inspection covers it was was possible to pull the jugs out. And on the f20 all the oil tubes are external not internal. And also most tractors didn't use kerosene long they went to tractor fuel and or distillate. That is why the f20 had shutters son the radiators was to adjust for the fuel that the tractor could run on. I have some more stuff to share and if you would like me to I can. Thanks.
@thomasfogerty3515 Yes. I know all of that... however it's Heisler, not heister, and there's only one F 20 transmission.. a 4 speed. There is , however, a 3.5 mph 4th gear, and a 9mph 4th gear ,that you can't see. The differences in the video are visual differences only.
@DeeringDave thanks for the info. And the correction on that. So my question is that fast 4th and that 9mph gear. Was that an option by IH or where those aftermarket. Cause my f20 seems to go very slow in 4th 4th gear. That is why I am curious about it. Thanks.
Question how rare are these
@@tracilambert3526 I know of only four in existence....
@@DeeringDave oh is the parts like the f 20 or the regular because I fond one for sale
@tracilambert3526 yes. They share alot of the same parts.
Always neat to see shingles being made at the shows.
Met with you yesterday in Saegertown. I was there in Williamsfield the Saturday of this video here. I also see that I am already a subscriber to your channel.
Hi Deering Dave! I Have among the Cub Cadets I have, a 102 with an IH QA36 Thower ( did IH buy Danco? ) on it and it was old when I got it and much more now and I have used that for clearing snow for near 40 years it is not pretty but it does the business! it is showing its age, the stones have the auger rolled over a fair bit I welded a bead of 1/4 steel wire at the entire edge of the auger and that has helped but in the end everthing has all the use used up , not sure why IH changed the chute control to that indexed thing I think that cable drive is a better idea over time! may convert back to that? I recently aquired an almost mint QA36A so I hope to have that either set to go on the 102 or the other project that the thrower came with and has the mounting gear for it, a 1650 the engine has oil control issues a 30 over and rings should rectify that heres hoping anyway, I have a 122 for parts, a 100 that has not seen a blade of grass for years and the 1450 that took over from it about ten years ago, I have had the 100 longer than the 102 the 100 was My first Cub, They are as a Consumer product for the most part at the top of that game in the IH era and a decade and a bit perhaps with MTD also as Garden Tractors go and it is to late in the Game to change sides now anyway would rather eat Crow ! I have many memories and some yet to experience some good and otherwise : ) on the Cubs Winter Spring Summer and Fall ! Thanks Dave and Thanks IH ! Cheers! P.S. the Thrower works well as a plow also there are many times it is not nessasary to run the auger!
@rickarmstrong4704 I don't think ih bought Danco, but they sure made alot of attachments for cubs. I was a cub wrench for our local CaseIH dealer, and I noticed a decline in the product after 1985. I like the wire repair ... I might do that when I lose my edge. I don't know where u live... but I keep one with the blower, and one with a blade, as snow consistency varies here.
@@DeeringDave Hello Again Deering Dave! I was thinking that as a possibility as the Danco name was disappeared ! Yes the edge over time gets rolled over the metal could have been a guage heavier but how many have been used for long past the engineered expiry date like 30 or 40 years more probably as I am sure it was used before I got it, it was mostly easy to nest 1/4 solid wire into the rollover clamped with some vice grips and stitched in place and repeat till done, took quite a while and it has improved it the reason I did not could not straighten the auger out was the case is not were it started out at as it left the factory, I had also thought of using a junked grain auger to make a new one ( were to find this item also ) but not sure it is usualy that diameter. one would cut two sections and flip one so they both auger to the center and cutting them correctly would give a tail to tack the thrower bucket portion all in one operation but the diameter has to be correct! Yes also setting up for plow and Thrower is a good idea also I do have one for the 1450 however but I prefer the thrower however there are those times! I live in Aurora Ontario and We do not get winters as I recall from childhood the last one in fact was snow then rain more often than not more salt than average, speaking of, thats why the case is rusted as it salt the primarily culprit and time, Anyway these are very durable Tractors as are the attachments for them, built to attract the Farmers but sold with an eye to the Homeowner perhaps more so! Not sure how the Folks in Buffalo get on with anything in that City or in some places in the Sierra Mountains like Mammoth Mountain! Crazy Stuff! want some entertainment and amazement as to why People do this to themselves? search ( snow clearing mammoth lakes ) it has Buffalo Buffaloed! Cheers!!! Rick
Hi Deering Dave ! I have used a Cub 102 for over 35 years closer to 40 actually with a QA 36 Snowthower the whole lot was old as dirt when I got it, You name it it has happened to it but cant imagine using anything else for the job however the rig it is showing its age and the thrower is showing it the best or worst Your preference! I have recently aquired a 1650 that came with a almost pristine QA 36 a latter model with the geared chute mechanisim ( not necessarily a better method than the cable ) and a 50" deck and the Tractor and the deck have issues well it all does but what fun is it if everything works all the time, What can You get for 750$? Certainly not a tractor deck and thrower all in! so winter is a ways away and hoping to get the bugs out of the new to Me stuff before its arrival, I also have a 1450 for doing grass and a few winters I have used the plow on that but overall the thower is a better instrument for the job and yes the thrower actually doubles as a plow it just does not angle : ) these little Tractors dont go anywhere with out chains on thats for sure, Great to see a Mirror of Me in a TH-cam video! The Cub 102 a Great Little Tractor for Life! Cheers!!! from Ontario

This brings back memories of plowing with our F-12 as a kid. I'm no longer a kid at 77 years old. Sweet memories!
I love working my F-12!
Thanks for the video, Dave Nice to see a W40 Got one over here, this side of the pond.
I would like to know where this junkyard is I need some parts for a Ford bronco
On Rte. 308 north of Butler Pa.
I did this exact same repair on some green LaCrosse knee boots that were splitting in the exact same place and my patch failed on my first use. I even let the patch set for almost a week before using.
Did u clean it REALLY well?
@@DeeringDave I did but I'm going to try it again just in case it was something on my end that caused it to fail. I'm thinking I didn't rough up the rubber enough with the metal scratch plate because some of it stuck really well while one side did not.
@disillusioned070 The quality of some of this new La Crosse product is degrading.
I think about how envious a poor dirt farmer would be when these came out. Like I am now seeing all these folks on these Air Conditioners cab tractors now. My grandpa n me put up thousands of squares bales every year on old tractors. I was envious of the people who had power steering. I personally wore the black stuff off the steering wheel of a Fordson Dexta pulling square balers. Pop was old so he had a 4000 Ford with power steering to cut with. , and we had a Farmall Super C to take with. It was like power steering. I asked about us trying to put power steering on the Dexta. He said I had shoulders wider than some were tall , and they needed the work. We worked every day from dew lifting till dew fell out in the sun without any canopy. Now these young whippersnappers with these hydro drives , and A/C cabs with these new round balers. He told me about being a kid and doing it with hay shocks , n loading with pitchforks. So when I was growing up it was like a different lifetime than him. But staring at an ass of an ass all day compared to these tractors would be like a different lifetime.
I've heard it said that if you didn't buy a tractor, you were a horse's ass, and all you would ever do is stare at horses' asses! Lol!
I had a farmall on regular and it was a fine old tractor but I thought I needed a more modern tractor so I traded it and got a 1935 f20😮
Not much of an upgrade! Lol!
The Saegertown show featured John Deere brand. I think both shows had a good turnout of exhibitors, but they both have their traditional weekends in 2024. Maybe Mercer County was a week earlier than usual to not compete against another IH/Farmall event. Was there one? I see that you videos Portersville Show 2023. I was there too that Saturday.
Was there Friday all day because my neighbor wanted to see the Pioneer engine and tractor show in Saegertown Saturday. This year they are not on the same weekend.
You're cookin' with gas now!
As someone who isnt quite as familiar with flywheel engines, this was really interesting.
Really cool to see how the models evolved over the years.
Got an f30 so this is right up my ally.
Yes, plow, cultivators, disc, potato digger, corn planter, mower, brush hog, hay wagon, sickle bar, and a rake. The cultivators and the sickle bar are mounted.
Do yall have other implements?
rule number one, never clean rubber with alcohol, rubber will harden faster
I did this repair quite awhile ago, and it is still holding and the rubber is still supple.
Was wondering if you were planning on going back ? Seems you missed quite a few rows which I’m sure you couldn’t film it all.
Probably not. These yard owners are getting cagy about letting people roam around without supervision. CYA stuff. I did cover about 90 % of it.
Thanks for the info! Was just looking at banjo lessons on youtube when I decided I should fix my boots, funny how that worked out lol
If you lived closer, I could give you lessons! I wrote the instrumental banjo piece on my intro.

Spelled it wrong.
A lil bit of heat gun, maybe?
Family tractor when I grew up (I'm 75) was a '24 Regular on rubber. It would pull a 2 bottom in 2nd gear. Dad added a flywheel behind the bell, starter, added generator and lights, and a belt drive hydraulics, nice snowplow. Front mount buzz saw. I threw away tons of wood from that thing. I used to "skooch" up in the seat and clamp my thighs around the wheel to keep control in our rough ground. Dad died in 95, we sold it ?? about 03. DROVE it onto the trailer.
I would love to have a starter on mine!
😂nice
Thanks!
Burning off the carbon is fine on non resistor plugs but plugs with resistors might melt or damage the resistor.
You don't seem to know a lot about the little things.
You didnt ask.
Thank you!
Hoping ya got me on there
I liked the comparisons. Very nice job. I like how you gave some explanations about why the change came about I never thought about the why's.
Thank you very much!

@@tomhochnadel2559 Don't forget to change them annually!
Thanks for the detailed info, i was just wondering how they differed. Cool old tractors.
Thank you so much Deering Dave for the very informative and helpful tutorial! I learnt a lot and I'm going to fix my friend's boot tomorrow! Have a wonderful holiday time! God bless and good luck!
