@@donedissertation I think 1) always come prepared to meetings 2) when connecting with experts, have a specific ask about their expertise 3) stay focused on the prize - done dissertation and publishing. 4) bring an authenticity to your dissertation. Don’t replicate but rather originate.

Thanks for your comment! This is always an interesting topic because we have preferences as faculty and then there are differences in what students see in published literature. In your situation how do you have students write when they are referring to their own argument or idea in a paper how do you suggest they write it without using I?

@@donedissertation There were a few key points that struck a chord. A. What does success look like for me and where is that? Can I envision myself with task that align with who I am as a person..(Then it really won't be "work"). B. Leveaging your skill set C.Rebuking the vow of poverty and releasing it. D.Getting in spaces where I can share and grow my expertise...Those kind of ideas hit home.

@@patricebarrett5845 Thanks so much for sharing this! These are such great insights. We definitely love to see our clients leverage their doctorate however makes sense for them as there is no right way to do things. And yes to C on your list! We want everyone to have abundance!

Thanks for your comment. Universities have policies in place around defenses and there are many cases when students can defend a second time. It shouldn't get to this point, but we have seen it a lot. And students attending reputable universities cannot just pay their way to a doctorate. The work has to be done and we ensure students produce top notch research for their dissertations. Thank you again for your comment!

I agree 100%. What have you done to ensure you take action steps?

But what if you need more money to do the thing they're asking you to do and you don't have that money 😢😢😢

It's tough for sure. But if you recognize that the work will never be perfect it can be helpful. You can then focus on just getting the work done and in a good spot to get feedback to push you the rest of the way!
