Agave Americana.. I rescued from certain death
มุมมอง 50หลายเดือนก่อน
So driving home for work, just under a week ago.. I see a pile of garden rubbish dumped on the side of the road, and with it a very large but mostly dead Agave Americana. So I jumped out and cut off, the still alive offsets and planted them

Great tour you have some nice variety. It looks pretty sheltered in your garden.
Let me know how the agave filifera gets on, I have a small one in a pot that im going to keep dry in the plastic greenhouse and maybe plant it out next year.
I dont have an Agave Filifera at the moment in the garden, although the Yucca Filifera that I do have... looks very simular
@@markchitty6505 Sorry I meant Yucca filifera yes haha my mistake !
@@Knapper94 Will keep you posted 👍
From experience, I would foam rather than silicone the gaps. If you feel like running to the expense. I would put some insulation on the inside of the wooden walls, and some foam insulation or polystyrene sheets and put that on the floor and stand your plants on that. The easiest insulation is probably the foil roll you can cut to size and staple to the wood. If you cut it long enough it can overlap on to the floor to cover the gaps at the bottom. That will help keep the heat in.
Hi Andrew... Was going to use polystyrene sheets on the inside wooden walls... and you are right... expanding foam will be better for gaps... I just need to silicone some of the windows... Was also thinking about standing the plants on something inside the greenhouse.. Thanks for your ideas 💡 👍

25👍Wow !! Great presentation, GOD BLESS YOU DEAR , HAVE A NICE TIME Amazing dear pretty sister, very beautiful , wonderful coverage , greetings from HONG KONG @richscenic
Thanks for watching 😁
looks great, bloody hate flat pack 😂🤦♂️ it becomes an expensive hobby quickly 😂🤦♂️🤦♂️
Was a nightmare to put together for sure.... pretty much finished it on Sunday, just got to fit the heater and thermostat... and then try and treat the wood outside. After last nights strong winds and heavy rain, we did have a leak in the roof, but not suprised with the quality of it... will have to seal the roof for sure..
@@markchitty6505 ah yeah not the best week to put it up with all the rain, but needs must haha! sounds like its pretty much there now, should be a good space for all the tender tropicals as well !
These flat packs are never easy, I am sure the air was blue, but it will do the job 😊
The air was very blue 🤣... But yeah hopefully it will do the job, only time will tell 👍
You could try some caulk saver, basically round foam rope like lengths that can be squeezed into the spaces. I've used it on the old wooden floor gaps before carpet to stop drafts
Never seen caulk saver, where would you get that from ?
I'm Mark's partner and I can vouch it and Mark was a nightmare putting it together. I was going to make him move out into it 😂😮
Might be very nice out there. once the heating is on 🤣🤣🤣

Like the look of that Filifera
I know some people have trouble getting them through winter, if left in the ground... but that depends on your location in the UK, along with the soil it is planted in...
purple stem banana
Purple stem banana ?
@@markchitty6505 yeah its available in some part of the city of purwokerto central java indonesia also purple branch papaya tree
@@DimasFajar-ns4vb I will have to look out for that...not sure if it is available in the UK but thanks for the info 👍
Its got to start from somewhere, nice start and bones to grow on
Yep for sure... many thanks for watching
@@markchitty6505 how do plan to over winter the Sikkimensis in the pot?
@@essexhognose1808 I will move it into my heated greenhouse, or the shed depending on space. Both are fine for winter... I just cut all the leafs off, leaving the top roller
Excellent vid, feel inpired to invest in some Yucca for year long interest now 😊
If you plant them in good free draining soil, they do well... both in the ground and pots... and like you said they give year long interest, the types I grow in my garden are the hardy variety, as ther are others that are not so much... but glad that may of helped you ...
that's awesome love a freebee 😎😎 haha ive had a few over the years, i do landscape gardening and get alot free from customers who want garden clear outs haha, awesome though be interested to see how they grow 😎👊🌴
I could not just drive past lol ..... hopefully they will all be ok, I will keep you updated....
great video, i love these plants, great evergreen structure and the bluey green hue on them is wicked, ive got loadsss in my garden, very cool super hardy plant!
I agree... and the amount of different types you can grow in the UK, really has suprised me to be honest
Awesome thanks for sharing! My cannas are super small compared to yours :-( This year I will leave them in the ground.
great video, quick growing stuff is great, i still cant believe the growth on some plants haha!
Being a non gardener up until last summer, seeing what plants can do.... really has suprised me for sure
Welcome to the club . You are not the only one to Mispronounce plant names
Glad to hear it lol ... I also have a slight Speech Impediment still, which really does not help matters at all😂
Good morning 🎉
Good morning,,, thanks for watching
I’m at the same stage as you, but doing something of a transition from traditional English cottage plants to tropical. 171 plants ??? I thought I was hooked, coming home with a plant every time I go out ! Yesterday it was Colocasias from B&am. Have you had any edible figs ?
when you first start, you do get hooked, and same as you I was buying multiple plants every weekend.... almost like you are collecting them lol.... Sadly our B&M has no plants, but seems a great place to pick up Tropicals.... No edible figs yet... but hoping next year, as the tree has put on lots of new growth this year
Great video, just subbed 😎, for a first year garden its looking great mate! once the yuccas flower the yucca that has flowered will die but it will send off offsets after. my tropical garden is on its 3rd year now youll be amazed how much yours changes over just a couple years! mines a right jungle now haha. just put out a august tour on here if your interested . love what youve done so far and the plants your chosen 😎😎
Thanks... been a massive learning curve, and a complete novice doing TH-cam videos.... where abouts are you based ?
@@markchitty6505 ah it always is at the start keep at it good first video for sure mate. lol im no expert thats for sure 😂😂🤦♂️im based in Leicestershire UK
@@richf_tropical_garden_projects Yep... I would deffo be interested, but sadly I am in west sussex, bit of a journey :)
