It’s super to see garden almost from scratch. Mine is a blank slate too asI have decided to go the route of many gardeners & go tropical! I’ve got a few palms & grasses the rest of the collection is only coming in May. However they’re smallish plants that can be tucked in any where. You sound as excited as I do! Happy gardening!

Thanks for watching.... Small plants are sometimes the best way to go, as they get there roots down quicker, and from experience grow faster than larger more mature plants... spring will soon be here, and May sounds like it's going to be a busy time in your garden👍

@markchitty6505 they should fill in nicely, yeah to be fair i think thats whats its all about, general look! i think a good mix works well tbh! your tree fern seems really happy in there but could be a squeeze getting out, id say out it out, but the new fronds will be done with just one frost, i tried to protect one new frond with fleece and it still rotted off after just one frost even protected.

From experience, I would foam rather than silicone the gaps. If you feel like running to the expense. I would put some insulation on the inside of the wooden walls, and some foam insulation or polystyrene sheets and put that on the floor and stand your plants on that. The easiest insulation is probably the foil roll you can cut to size and staple to the wood. If you cut it long enough it can overlap on to the floor to cover the gaps at the bottom. That will help keep the heat in.

    • @markchitty6505

Hi Andrew... Was going to use polystyrene sheets on the inside wooden walls... and you are right... expanding foam will be better for gaps... I just need to silicone some of the windows... Awesome thanks for sharing! My cannas are super small compared to yours :-( This year I will leave them in the ground.

I’m at the same stage as you, but doing something of a transition from traditional English cottage plants to tropical. 171 plants ??? I thought I was hooked, coming home with a plant every time I go out ! Yesterday it was Colocasias from B&am. Have you had any edible figs ?

when you first start, you do get hooked, and same as you I was buying multiple plants every weekend.... almost like you are collecting them lol.... Sadly our B&M has no plants, but seems a great place to pick up Tropicals.... No edible figs yet... but hoping next year, as the tree has put on lots of new growth this year
