Camp Snap Camera First Impressions and Review: A Digital 'Diana' Lomography Bargain?
I made this as the majority of the reviews of this camera appeared to have missed the point somewhat, and talk about lack of control, lack of contrast & noisy images. It's a £50 kids toy - what did they expect??!
Being a toy, it put me in mind of the Diana Lomography cameras, so I have done this review on that basis. Hope you find it helpful.
Full disclosure: I paid for this camera myself as I was interested, and Camp Snap no nothing of this review. All comments my own.

    I'm the target buying market. 40, so born in 83, and i have an almost 8 year old. She's great about being careful with my lumix lx3, but she's getting one of these for Christmas specifically so she can take it anywhere without so much worry! And I do a lot of my own photography on m43, so some quick edits for her stuff is already part of the routine.

      How do you get on with M43? I bought an OM-D a few years ago having owned a Nikon D50 for yonks and having learn on an OM-10 (so liked the aesthetic) - I couldn't get on with it at all, but have recently realised, after snagging a D5500, that it is the difference between CCD and CMOS that I don't like: CMOS is too clinical for my tastes, so I am actually thinking about getting the D50 serviced and just accepting that 6mp is 'enough' for most things...

    • @Jarrych83
      @Jarrych83 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@iamaparanoidandroid1 mostly really liking it. The form factor and size is obviously nice and I'm using an Olympus em10 iv. I'm finding noise handling good enough and actually find the way Olympus handles it to be generally nice. Lots of tiny, cheap lenses out there as well as the clinically precise ones. I have a number of the manual lenses from the new Chinese manufacturers and enjoy that a lot. Those have more clinical quirks. But I find that either zone focusing or back button autofocus for a similar approach help keep things less perfect and I also use black mist style filters on most of my lenses in general. Hiking, I use my 30mm macro and the 40-150 zoom and they have a lot of character for pretty precise lenses. But with the filters on, I keep it subtle with those, like 1/8 strength to just add a little. The main downsides are the crop factor if you shoot really wide and the current lack of camera body variety. I'd love to see the return of the Pen line!

      Hey, thanks - I did reply, but it seems to have disappeared! That would be cool - for clarity for anyone reading the comments, the review above was done without Camp Snap knowing about it, on a camera I bought for myself (£50 + £15 Shipping =~$75ish). Thinking about the original use case, and something that I thought: It would be great if the camera had a timer, even if it was a slightly basic mechanical one (where the button for the flash would be on a disposable). That way kids could have the fun of resting it on a rock to get themselves in the photo only to find that they cut everyone's heads off when they get the photos back! Would also be cool if there was a sound option between the Cheesy Shutter noise and silent (just a click or small beep?) Great concept! I personally think you could have a cult classic on your hands, especially with the trend for VHS look and early 2000s Digicams...

    Just an addendum to this video... The disparity between the display and real life got wider and wider over time until it got to the stage where it was reading -32c all the time. This had a knock on effect that the AC wouldn't operate as the car thought that the condensor was be frozen. Initially I just unplugged the sensor, which made the AC work again, but i have just changed the sensor to the same spare that I had bought previously, and its now working! I think when I filmed the video the computer didn't go through its startup checks as I left the keys in the ignition between shots, so it was still showing the previous number. Problem solved!

      Glad it's working now for you, I ended up changing mine on a mk2 Audi TT coupe 2007 after seeing enough of these videos. Was a bigger job as had to take the whole front off, found the plug for the sensor was cracked which let mositure in and corroded the contacts so repaired that first with plastic super glue, cleaned contacts then put new oem sensor in and now readings are good too. Happy days 🙂

      My ambient temperature display shows up once in a while. My climate control works for 10-15mins then switches off. This morning it rained and my ambient temperature display worked but showed -6°c but the real ambient temperature was 20°c. This time around the climate control won't work. This afternoon once the weather dried up my climate control worked but only for 10-15mins. N.B. I recently changed the Aircon compressor. Do you think the external temperature sensor is faulty.

    • @syedali3640
      @syedali3640 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @shadyninja1 I think it could be the problem or even part of the problem. As yours has been playing up with wrong readings, it sounds like similar to what happened to mine as initially was giving wrong readings and then eventually stooped working at all. It could also be the contacts or even the plug to the sensor itself which i also had to repair by just giving a basic clean and glueing/sealing a crack it had before plugging the new sensor into it.

      I need to update this having used them in the recent weather. They are great in the frost and slush, and in snow on the flat, but really struggle on hard packed snow if there is any kind of cross-slope/camber, which I discovered when I slid sideways from a standstill into a gatepost the other day. Was fine moving forwards, but as soon as I came to a halt they broke traction sideways - I guess as a result of the siped pattern with no longitudinal grooves. Overall they are good value, but there are probably better options for the winter.

      @@MrKeelan74 I did mine myself with a bypass relay, but I'm only towing a small trailer normally. Electric handbrake doesn't make any difference really, and you can turn the parking sensors off on the button. The only benefit of coding is that it tells the traction control you are towing and (I think) the cooling fans work harder in heavy loads, other than that the bypass is fine for my use. Good luck!
