My garden is surrounded by thick concrete panels with steel retaining bars in them and is 6 foot high. My neighbour had an enormous 75 foot high tree next to it.They decided to get it removed as it took up so much space. Enter the “tree surgeon” and his crew. I watched them preparing to start cutting it and knew exactly what was going to happen when they did cut it as they obviously didn’t know the safety procedures about tree felling. I told him to ensure that they didn’t damage my fence and his angry reply was “I do this for a living lady.I know what I’m doing“. I told my neighbour that if the concrete fence was damaged then she would have to pay for repairing it,stood back and waited for what I knew would happen.Sure enough a huge limb swung away from the tree and smashed the top 2 panels and the upright pillar of my wall to pieces. When I asked to see his certification as a fully trained tree surgeon I got a mouthful of abuse as he could tell I knew he wasn’t. My neighbour had to pay £450 to get my fence repaired. The reason I knew he wasn’t certified is because I love watching certified arborists at work in the flesh and on TH-cam. I left him and my neighbour having a slanging match over the damage,and reported him and his so called company to the police as being fraudulent as his lack of knowledge could cost someone their lives,including the people working with him.The police came out and told him he could be charged with causing criminal damage if I wanted to press charges against him.Also for endangering people’s lives by pretending to be qualified. I wasn’t as upset about the fence as I let them think I was because I knew she’d pay for the repairs because I told her that I would call the police to report the criminal damage and take her to the small claims court if she didn’t.As her son was frequently in trouble with the police I knew she wouldn’t want to go down that path. Moral of the story….check any workman’s credentials if they claim to be qualified before employing them.

In Florida I ran a 12 man crew . 2000 minimum a day or it was my a$$. We’d trim palms for three months in golf courses. 4 up the rest down . After that trim oaks . For three ...after that homeowners and odd associations. 450 is cheap . Doesn’t matter what the job is ...it matters how much time we need to do it. We got paid three hundred once to get a cat out of tree . Took 2 hours. I told her to just leave it there It would come down..She got the bill she freaked, I don’t know what the hell she was expecting.Should’ve been 450. With 10 guys watching.

Tbh I dont know what they charged. They might be cowboys but their not major con artists like the other “vairy” guys. They might work a bit dodgy and don’t have much experience but certainly not the worst I’ve seen. When I was up and coming g in tree work I used to bend rules to get a job done. Using ladders etc. But I made ducking sure I was always tied in with a harness somewhere!

£450 for 3 men for a day?! Good luck getting qualified, insured professionals for that! £200-250 per man per day, 3 men 1 day = £600-750 plus waste removal.
