@3:42 The issue isnt not having abs ot tcs alone . Its the fact that the 242 is an open center diff so it would need those to direct the power . You are comparing it to a car that doesnt have a normal open center diff and was build that way to work without abs or tcs , same as my 93 audi s4 (the abs on it was trash and you even had the option of an abs off button on the dash back then) . This is actually why i chose to put a np120 trailblazer SS case in my crew cab manual awd big block muscle truck . I have a np242AMG h1 case too but everything i looked into the np120 would be a better case to live with on the street and in the snow (living in new england) and i dont want to use my pontiac G8 in the winter . Yes i dont have 4lo but i never taken the truck off road because its to big but im still toying with the idea of putting a jeep 242 into my 4.0 TJ manual .

Thank You so much, it was so much easier after checking this great video. You were right about everything, those 2 bolts was really stuck. I used a Chinese induction heater( vevor), 60seconds each, not yet glowing, after that they started to move. I have the 2.5L manual XJ, noted holding the stick that there might be a problem in the mount, and yes, it was totally shot.

I have a stock 1992 4.0 manual 5 speed with the 242 and limited slip in the back. Could it be it was modified by a previous owner? If what you say is true, that they never came out like that

Hey waemid just wondering your input on something. I have a 00 with a cracked head. I just recently started having low low oil pressure I verified with a mech gauge . Ik it’s very well possible I wiped out my cam bearings. That being said . Do you know if throwing a new head or atleast a non cracked head would buy time ? Should I just drive it till she’s gone ? If I do replace head would I have to pull motor and do cam bearing etc ?

😂I thought I notice the oil pressure was rather low, have you checked that ? It needs to run on at least 35 or 40 on that gauge , but I only saw it at a glance, I hope its ok,,,,,these motors run forever long as it's got desent oil pressure and doesnt over heat, I have a 1998, 278,000 miles , still starts and runs like a new one, but that 35 rearend is howling a little, they are next to nothing as a rearend tho !

Hello, I love all your XJ videos. It's so instructive 🙏. I live in France. I would like to buy an XJ not for a daily use, just for fun. I love the 1st gen XJ (exterior and interior looking) and I'd definitively prefer to drive a manual transmission. In order to avoid the Peugeot BA10 transmission, I target an XJ from 92-96. Is my reasoning correct ? What do you believe is the best option/way to get a reliable 1st gen XJ with manual transmission ? Thank you for your help, Julien

This vehicle was the top of the line Jeep(Cherokee based) back in 1990. They are like unicorn's today and you NEVER see them. Although that vehicle is in pretty bad shape and the seller is a total loser, i might buy it to restore. No rust, 98% complete. And even if the motor is bad, you could fix it for less than $2,000. I definately wouldn't pay $4,000, that's for sure. I would offer $2,500 max.

WJ pressure fittings are m20x1.5 and the XJ pressure fittings is m18x1.5 Since the thread pitches the same it will feel like it threads in properly. a lot of people can get enough meat for it to bolt the power steering high pressure line down. Unfortunately a lot of times it'll cut off threads, leak, or blow off like what happened in the video. I have a bunch of photos documenting this if you're interested.

Correct about the O2 sensor wire bracket not present on 87-90 Fed emissions. I'm lucky in that the 93 YJ drivetrain I scored has it, so I'm going to make use of it (HO engine with Renix sensors/ computer/ Renix to HO throttle body TPS adapter). Great vid, as always- revisiting this one for any reminders I'll need before knocking this out today.

Thanks from 3 years later! Friggin XJ’s clutch decided it didn’t wanna engage (or actually disengage I think) anymore just before snow, so now I gotta take a gander at the clutch fork

I did iridium 3 month down misfires and cylinder 6 misfire was bad. Changed the ignition coil again n put OE platinum will see if it works or if I should have watched your channel earlier
