Problems with new Bosch track saw.
Disappointed with my new @BoschProfessional track saw. The scale on the bevel gauge doesn't seem accurate at all.

Considering a Knock off All American Lawnmower Blade Sharpener? Watch this first!

Knock off versions of the All-American lawnmower blade sharpeners can be much, much cheaper than the original, but are they any good?
Delta Rockwell Unisaw Jet Lock Fence Parts and Assembly
มุมมอง 3K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I describe the parts of a Delta Rockwell Unisaw Jet Lock Fence and show how it is all put together. I also describe the rubber bushing that is prone to failure and a common problem with these old fences. If you're in the US, the rubber bushing is available at the link below. I have no connection to the company. www.renovoparts.com/904-08-021-4550-rubber-bushing-for-jet-lock-fence/
Foley 387 Hand Saw Filer Test Run
มุมมอง 8664 ปีที่แล้ว
Just a short video to test a vintage Foley 387 Hand Saw Filer and a new-used JVC GZ-EX210 video camera. The camera was very inexpensive, but will be an upgrade from my phone or the point and shoot I've been using. Hopefully it help me create more content for this channel.
How to change the belts on an MTD Lawn Tractor
มุมมอง 236K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I change the transmission belts on my MTD 15.5HP "Series 600" Lawn Tractor. I messed up the reassembly, so watch and learn from my mistakes. I also used a technique to remove the seized engine pulley that I learned from Taryl Fixes All. You can see his video here: th-cam.com/video/ok0gAomeeoo/w-d-xo.html If you learned something from this video, please consider making a small dona...
Vintage Stanley No. 7 Hand Plane Restoration
มุมมอง 3415 ปีที่แล้ว
Fixed up an old Stanley No. 7 hand plane and fitted it with a new Lee Valley Veritas blade and cap iron. Some previous owner shortened this plane by chopping the toe and heel off. Not sure why someone would do that, but they did a good job and I thought it would make a great shooting plane. This is also my first foray into video editing. So it's just a short little video with no commentary. I a...

Horizontal Bandsaw Test Run

It was a bit dark, but I couldn't resist playing with my new/used toy tonight! I bought this metal cutting horizontal bandsaw at an estate sale auction and it seems to work fine.
Anvil Ring Test
มุมมอง 3517 ปีที่แล้ว
I got a good deal on this Mousehole anvil, but it has some damage on the top. This video was shot to get some feedback from some member's of an online forum who know much more about anvils than I do.
I have the same tractor plus the MTD owners manual, and it doesn't seem like the instructions are correct. It says to remove the springs which you said not to remove. But that allows the variable speed pulley to move forward, which is the opposite of what you want. Instead, I removed the speed control rod from the bottom arm near where the variable speed pulley is mounted. This allowed the variable speed pulley to move back, giving me enough slack to get the large pulley back on the transaxle. Then I was able to easily pry the variable speed pulley mechanism forward and reconnect the speed control rod.
Need fuel shut off, I put a better fuel filter on also shut off fuel run it dryI’m waiting on new carb to get to me then won’t have deal with. Shut down is good for storing over winter
Wow totally stole there design, I bought a real one with the extra Honda brackets years ago working great, but was expensive. These are a steal.
Suggestion - Cut the belts off. This will save time and make the installation of new belts easier.
Your "maintenance" video would be MUCH better with some additional lighting! Or, you could do like Taryl Dactel does, tip the mower on its' side. Make sure the gas filler is at the high point and plug the breather holes at the carb to keep oil from leaking out!
Excellent review! I have the original All American Sharpener and I love it! Makes me look like a pro. 🤣😂 We have family that lives in Canada so I understand looking at knock offs. Regards, Lindsay
@@AppleFanX2 Thanks for your comment! Glad you're happy with the All American.
I was looking at the knock offs also. Wasn't sure about the build quality and material quality. I did mot purchase any of the dozen or so knock offs out there. I decided to purchase the All-American Sharpener. Right out of the box, The build quality, heavy duty steel, workmanship and you can tell how much thought went into this when designing. I'm glad I spent the extra cash. Well worth the price.
The one you got looks smaller than the All American. On my All American, the arms are each about 8.5" long. The angled bracket doesn't look like the same angle either, the All American bracket is 45°
There are 4 different ones on Amazon. He got the wrong one. You want the exact knockoff which typically has 5005 in the title. They are awesome. The other 3 not so much.
Directions say to turn the handle around if it doesn't fit
I will also check to make sure the variable speed pully is also working properly.
That's the exact same setup I have on a riding mower. I'm having issues with the belt popping off the front pully. I believe they gave me the wrong belt, and it's too long. I'll check it out tomorrow again. I needed this video to make sure I was running the belts right and I am so the only option now is bent the belt tabs back into the stock position and make sure they gave me the right belts. Thank you so much for this video. It's a blessing, to say the least. Thank you again.
Awesome!
Thanks!
I know this video is a few years old now. And it is quite helpful because I have a very similar lawn tractor. One thing I wish you could do when you make these videos, especially on lawn tractors. Because I'm always watching them. Is tell us in the description or on camera what year your MTD product is made. That would be quite helpful. MTD made a lot of variations in these mowers and i'm finding out the hard way when I have to order parts.
Thanks for your comment and sorry I didn't include the date. I don't own this tractor anymore, but will keep that in mind for future videos.
You can get parts manuals and owners manuals on the MTD website using your model number.
@JKraft-o6q No, you can't. I've tried many ways.I've actually called and talked to different companies, including MTD itself. No, pull up schematics.Nothing available.Other than factory original art manual which I can get onlineNo, you can't. I've tried many ways. I've actually called and talked to different companies, including MTD itself. No repair manuals, schematics for 23 year old Rider. Nothing available. This company is always f**cks up the guide pins
Expected you to clean and repaint as you progressed as now you have the chance to
Thanks god bless
Got mine on eBay for $47 and has everything that the All American has and does a great job.
Bahahaha
You can loosen pulley bolts by first stuffing a huge rag between belt and pulley. Once loose you remove belts
I have a Craftsman screwdriver that is exactly like the handle on that jig. I ordered a model 5005 on Ebay for $43. It may be junk when I get it but (based on the pictures) it has longer screws with the Loctite on them, and looks very similar to the high dollar ones. I think they all come out of the same factory in China.
Thanks for your comment. Hope you get a good one. From the comments here, seems like most people are happy with knockoffs. So I definitely got a lemon.
All American is made in Ohio. It costs more, but it is made very well with top-of-the-line material.
@@jp456011 It probably is high quality material but it's not worth the price to me. It doesn't take high quality metal to hold a lawnmower blade in place just to sharpen it.
It's from China what did you expect sometimes when you buy Chinese knockoffs this is what happens sometimes you get a good one sometimes bad one
I bought the all American a few years back when they first came out I think it was around 160 bucks and I love it. Works great.
got an old 13 hp mtd Thnx for the video! gonna get a gas shut off valve sap! Seems like should be able to change belts without removing 2 pulleys? cheers!
All-American should have made their product more price competitive. I have the knockoff and it's adequate for the job.
I am about to do this job..Is there a reason you went with a different technique than taryl ? I saw his video and cant decide which way is easier.. What can you say about both ways ??? Also you didnt address the guide pins up front .. I just priced those out and saw a price as high as 50 bucks for a single pin..MTD had them for 10 bucks which turned to over 60 with shipping to my location.. Those guide pins are like gold to source out..
Not
Damn I been doing it the hard way for 45 y
Must have gotten a knock off of the knock off.
Lol, I think you're right.
I went with All American after looking at most of the knockoffs and watching TH-cam videos. We mow over 20 acres every week and rotate through sets of blades after each mow. My problem is one of the mowers is a rear discharge with a counter rotating blade on the right and those blades are 24.5". None of the knockoffs said they can handle a counter rotating blade. I have sharpened the blades while being held in a vice for many years. The edges were nice and sharp, but now the blades look like they were sharpened on an expensive sharpener at a shop. My wife knows how to do all the maintenance to the mower, but will not sharpen blades. After seeing how easy it is, she is planning on learning how to sharpen the blades.
Thanks for your comment. I have no doubt they're good products and sounds like it was a good investment for you, considering the amount of grass you're mowing each week. Cheers.
I own an all American sharpener, I don’t care I will pay the extra for the AMERICAN made product. SCREW CHINA !!!
They are made in the same factory. So it should be just as good as the so-called all American.
Wish I saw this before I did mine! I ended up releasing the spring on the right rear. It took a half hour to put it back on (vice grips and a heavy wire formed in a 3” loop-pull back and reattach. Needed wheel chocks). Like he says make sure the pulley star lines up or it will shear the splines. Great video!
Thanks for your comment!
My knockoff works great. Only issue I had was one of the bolts on the folding arm was too tight & I had to slightly loosen it. It would then get looser with use, but applying threadblocker blue fixed the issue & it's been perfect ever since.
Thanks for your comment. Glad you got a good one.
I went as far as looking at the All American, when I saw the price I said hell no. I cut sum 2x4's on a 30 degree angle. I put 3 2x4's together put them on a board so I could clamp it down. I use square tubing to make the arm's to attach my grinder to. Work's great used stuff I already had save my money for something else.
Sounds like a great solution! Thanks for sharing.
on that main engine shaft pulley that you vibrated off, up in there a ways is the seal, do you think that seal was accessible? I need to replace the seal because oil is leaking out all over the two pulleys (small one and dripping down to the large one), which covers the belts with oil and causes all sorts of issues, oil is gunked everywhere. I need to be able to have enough room up in there to yank the old seal off with a dental pick, and then put a new seal on there with some sort of PVC pipe to bang it back on. Any ideas?
Wish I could help you, but I sold the tractor last year and didn't really look at that seal when I removed the pulley. Good luck and I hope you can get yours fixed.
@@ToolTalkCanada Thanks for the reply, it is appreciated...i will make sure I'm subscribed if not already!!! I've got the new seal on order from the Briggs & Stratton Amazon store, Imma give it the ole college try!
A poor "solution" to a nonexistent problem. Clamp the blade in the vise and go at it carefully with your angle grinder and flap disk. If you can't do this freehand, while maintaining something close to the factory bevel, then you need to practice more with your grinder and develop some basic skills before attempting to sharpen blades with it.
Generics are great. Got the wrong one.
A savings of 200 bucks i can get new bolts and do some modify to get that to work lol
I don't know what you ordered, I got a knockoff from Amazon for $67 and it worked great out the box with my Dewalt side grinder. 100% Satisfied.
Thanks for your comment and I'm glad you had a better luck than I did. Lots of people have had good experiences with knockoffs, but as others have reported here, they're not all the same and some are complete garbage. So it's important to read the reviews and look closely at the listing pics so you know what you're getting.
Same. I’m completely satisfied. But like the man says, do your homework first.
Which one did you get? I also am a DeWalt owner.
@@d.b.lawton4036 The one I bought is no longer on Amazon. Purchased April of last year. But they all looked about the same to me. This is it: IKER Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener 15°-45° Adjustable for Straight and Standard Lawnmower Blades(Red,5005)
Bought one from Marketplace new in a box for $40...works like a charm...all pieces were as they were supposed to be...

Hi, been looking for mtd mower carb replacement, any clues, cheers from Australia
i think we must have gotten the same one lol. everything you mentioned from the solid bolt to the 4 of the same slide pins, one thing i found out is you unscrew the screws you can fit the honda blades in there. BUT even after making my own bushing and slide pin there was still too much side to side play not to mention the handle falling off, but that might have been my fault because i tightened it. so i returned it a few months ago, happened to stumble on someones review of another knock off but the brand is "SoCiMa" its about 70 USD right now but it looks much better and the 4 allen bolts are longer with loctite and im going to give it a try. im also with you and i do feel bad for the all american getting ripped by these knock offs but their price is way too much for what it is.
Thanks for your comment. Hope you have better luck with the next one.
When adjusting valve all you need to do is make sure valves are. Closed then gap to 4 thousands don't even pull plug
Hi, are there any screws to adjust it, if have a cheap parkside and there are screws to adjust
Thanks for your comment. There are screws to adjust both the zero and 45 degree stops. I think I mentioned in the video they were set accurately, but the scale is off. So when the saw is set to cut a 45 degree bevel, the factory arrow points to 46 on the bevel scale. Unfortunately, there is no way to adjust the arrow or the scale on this saw. My solution was to put a piece of tape correctly marking 45 degrees, but when I return the saw to zero this new arrow points to negative one and the factory arrow points to about zero. I think I can make the saw work with the two arrows, but it is a bit frustrating. I wasn't expecting absolute perfection down to a 10th of a degree or anything like that. Just thought it could have been closer. Some adjustability in the arrow or scale also would have been nice. I believe the Mafell and Festool track saws do provide some adjustability in the arrow or pointer, but they are both more expensive than the Bosch. So I guess there will always be a trade-off somewhere, and I'm otherwise very happy with the Bosch.
Thank you for a good video. Can you please help me on this one. I have a MTD, with the same pulley system, as the one you are showing. My problem is, it will only drive in high gears, nothing happens in 123456, can i adjust me out of that? Greatings from Denmark
Did you ever figure it out?
Yes, it was the double pulley wheel that was stuck, a hammer, and WD 40 solved it @@dabneyoffermein595
FELLA, all you have to do is put a bubble level on your grinder and go to town.
How are the springs installed.
Just curious how you get the two small diameter stainless steel looking billets to stay inside the holes of that bigger piece of steel when making your own jaws. Thanks.
Thanks for your question. The ends of the rods are threaded and I drilled and tapped holes in the fixed side of the jaws for the rods to screw into.
What's the length of that belt??
