Rancho del Lago 2021
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 11 พ.ค. 2023
Our little ranch by the lake is located in Mexico. I chose to retire here from Florida after visiting several countries, some which I liked, some I did not. Logistics and lifestyle were main considerations and I love the festive culture here.
We, my oldest son and I, began putting the ranch together in 2021 after building a home in the country on about 1/3 acre which had been a cornfield. As of today, July 2024, we have cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, rabbits, and goats. And our home has had a revolving door for more rescued cats and dogs, some we rehomed, some are here permanently, some of the elderly furbabies have passed on.
I'm also an artist and publishd author but carving out time to paint and write is challenging. After great encouragement from friends who read my FB journals on our wild lives here, I created this vlog so you can see it too.
We'd love for you to folow our crazy adventures.

I am so sorry to hear that you have had to go through all this pain and stress. I am seriously thinking of building outside of Guadalajara. I would like to obtain a list of your building resources and recommendations. Thank you!
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing! 👍
My Mexican wife and I built our large home in the middle of Mexico 21 years ago. Did almost none of your pricey recommendations apart from being on-site daily. That is very important. Get a great builder and trust him. We designed the house on graft paper.
Thanks for commenting. Things change in 21 years but got your point. I live in a high expat area and sadly, the con artists prey on us whenever we drop our guard. There are good builders. But you have to look hard.
Can you recommend someone in the real estate market I have a house in guanajuato mexico that I would like to sale thanks I appreciate
Sending prayers for a great outcome
Good luck with your surgery.
Kind of a no-brainer isn't it. Good luck .
Can i use jaggery instead of sugar.
Thank you for the information. Most was very useful. But I take issue with the dismissive and frankly disrespectful comments about the Mexican Christmas holiday. It’s obvious you lack a deep knowledge of the culture and you may not even speak Spanish. The long holiday is because of the old Catholic tradition of the 12 days of Christmas up to the Feast of Epiphany which celebrates the arrival of the Three Wise Men. Yes, some people drink and enjoy the holiday that way. Most Americans have a similar idea that partying is equivalent to drinking. So please keep your provincial and ignorant comments to yourself. Especially when you lack the intellectual depth and cultural awareness necessary to make such comments in a constructive manner that would be conducive to learning. If you are so ignorant and have such disrespect for Mexico and Mexicans what the hell are you doing there?
Sounds like a great deal of micromanaging.
I've been having trouble with hatching chicks and having them thrive. The one I bought are doing great.
I'll video how mine do. This is my first time so fingers crossed. Glad your store bought ones are doing good
@cherylynnferrari8468 I think that there is something wrong with the chickens I got my eggs from maybe too inbred.
How many hens and roos? Have you hatched before with this same flock?
@cherylynnferrari8468 I bought eggs from my sister in law twice with horrible hatch rates both times, the first hatch the survivors are slow growing except one, the second hatch they are a month old and can still fit in my palm. The chicks I bought are far bigger. I'm not sure how many chickens they have.
🙄I was enthusiastic about moving to Mex in retirement. That was 12 years ago. After many trips, I wasn’t impressed with the quality of construction. I completely changed my mind and decided to stay home and visit Mex during the winter and Christmas season. Cheaper and reliable. A short term rental, motel or hostel is more than enough.
Glad you found your happy compromise.
If i lived closer I would buy some rabbits from you.
Where are you?

We sold we're moving back to the United States. Mexico is now very scary the new government is very scary now things are changing in Mexico.
States are not scary?😅
Yes please go back to your country!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the educational radio from Central California
Well, Blue Sky Sanctuary has other ideas about all this and I am much more on her page than all this. Do your research and decide what kind of Mexico life you want folks. Brighton at Almost Retired in Mexico's page is a great resource. I can't understand this.
You should update the title of video: 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE BUILD YOUR HOUSE IF YOURE WHITE!!!!
I'm not sure why you made that comment. It sounds very racist which I am not and don't think I said anything to lead you to believe that.
@@cherylynnferrari8468The Mexicans have zero qualms about calling you a "guero". You are not their color. You are not part of their culture. You never will be. Is that "racist" or reality?
Aren’t you white too? What do you mark in the census?
Thanks. Hope you keep watching
Great video! Thank you
She is so right and great advice. Be careful and hire reputable people, some folks play the part of contractor but they are not experienced and just want to rip you off. Always always always pay for the material yourself, unless you have experience in construction and can get a quote for both labor and materials and can conclude the quote is reasonable. Even then make sure you know what type of material they will use and anything that is not to your standards have them change in the contract / listing of materials report that will be used. For example, I had my builder put together "castillos" manually by hand , with 3/8" rebar. Originally the builder had quoted and wanted to use "armex" which is a prefrabicated "castillo" and in my opinion much weaker than 3/8" rebar. Remember it's your house, and you should build it strong and earthquake resistant.
Where were you 4 years ago when you could have saved me a bundle?😂
Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. Nothing quite like experience to help reset "expatations". Why do I feel like "brave" was code for stupid?! 😂
Learning experiences never end.
Enjoyed this vlog and trying to catch up on all the rest.
Thanks Becky!
People will rip you off at every turn as my friend learned in Tulum. They lie, steal, don't complete things and just disappear. And then one day the cartel arrived with machine guns and said this is ours now, bye.
So sorry to hear all the bad things that happened to you.
Thank you
@@cherylynnferrari8468 Love you, Lil Sis you are not alone. Something similar happened to my daughter in LA. I know that there are absolutely no words that I can say to you. All I can tell you is that I understand and I feel you.

I ferment garlic, ginger, and jalapeno pepper in honey and take a spoonful everyday for my immune system. Mullein or in Spanish gordolobo is good for respiratory as a tea or tincture.
We are on the tail end of our build. It has been a long haul. Too many experiences to write about here but we finally took over the build ourselves about two years ago because we had so many problems. No small feat for a 56 and 63 year old couple with minimal financial means. But we are doing it. There are so many things we wish we had known 6 years ago…thanks for the video
So sorry you had so much trouble but you know ... what doesn't kill us ....
I'd like to suggest that you record with your phone sideways. It would help immensely. We have a Stihl chainsaw that we can't get started as well.
Thank you. I had been doing that and then saw other content creators saying that vertical gets more attention. It's all trial and error for me as a newbie.
Give them something to slow reproduction!
Over population!
Overpopulation of ants or people?
Can you get bone meal? I know that's what my mother used in Michigan for ants.
I'd be interested in how she applied it. Cutter ants are different than most others but it's worth a try.

This is my favorite video our yours so far. You said it all especially the towards the end. How you wish this for everyone. I feel the same way. This life is so good, I wish everyone this life too. Thank you for sharing. ❤ I look forward to more!
I understand the impatience but your hubby is doing the right thing. Some homesteaders stick to the plan of one new species per year. Preparing the proper housing and fencing is important and not cheap. Poco a poco, my friend.
I tried to talk my husband into getting rabbits at the Sunday market but he said i had to wait until the chicken coop is finished, as i have chicks in the brooder in the house.
These things are such a big undertaking! Brava!
Thank you. It wouldn't have been so big for me 20 years ago but it is now.
The screening is metal or fiberglass?
Metal. But it just needs to be firm and open weave enough to allow water to wick up through.
I have been learning about building a house for a couple of years, and I still learned from this video!
Glad you got some benefit. Hope you'll subscribe and watch the other videos. Especially those about building.

That panorama! And the ducks!
The view is what eses me into another day. And then the gratitude of the critters to get their breakfast.
I had no say in the building of the home and Ferretería my husband had built. He had it started before we got together, and we were in the United States. He is a Mexican citizen and had his family supervise. They didn't put a staircase in the Ferretería for the second floor, and our home has a water problem in the roof.
New here, saw you on Facebook
