40. Lets stick another 1000miles on the clock pt 1.
Got almost a week off so what better way to destress than giving myself a numb arse. Part 1 is a one nighter to Ullapool then back to Carlisle. As usual plans changed for the return leg, the weather was not on my side heading home and the sat nav was being its usual self. Technical term - bollocks!

A hot sunny day ride along another one of Cumbria's great roads. From Greenodd I head west along the A595. Usually a very quiet road with some fantastic twists and turns. Todays progress was slowed by lovely new surface dressing on some sections and it was uncharacteristically busy. Still good fun though. It's a road that can be included in some very good loops for anyone touring the area.

      @@teaboy3989 it is the WiFi one, do you not find the road names and numbers don't show when you zoom in to pin an accurate waypoint? I usually use it on my phone so there is a lot of zoom in, get a bit lost, zoom back out then back in. I've also learned that plan a thrill with the most twisty and most mountainous roads WILL send you down gravel tracks. Love that my average speed is shown when in an average speed zone. Enjoyed that mate. Dropped you a sub because us smaller channels have to stick together. BTW Police Scotland have confirmed that they will not enforce Council imposed 20mph speed limits in villages. The reason (rightly) is that there is no proven road safety reason to impose these limits. You may find mobile speed camera vans because they like to go for easy wins.

      Many thanks for the sub! I'm very glad to hear that about Police Scotland and the 20 limits. I've always stuck to them, and any other "red ringed" speed limit signs for fear of hidden camera vans, D and G are terrible for hiding their camera vans in the shadow of trees at the end of a long straight with no junctions and limited hazards.

    • @sebluddyshame443
      @sebluddyshame443 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I'm very satisfied with the NT, it's fantastic in town cutting through traffic and equally as good for more spirited riding. The weather protection is excellent , no more filthy boots after a wet ride. The only thing I have found is slow riding can be a pain, I have been in a couple of sets of road works where there is a convoy vehicle that travels at 5 mph and the bike just seems to be on and off the throttle. It's improved by choosing rain mode. The 100bhp is very adequate. It feels faster than my tiger 1200 that had 135bhp. It's a little chuggy if you accelerate from low revs but that soon smooths out. I dont use the touch screen so can't comment on any reported faults with it and my phone is a little low on processing power so android auto works when it feels like it so it's Tom tom and a separate Bluetooth adapter for me which I prefer. All in all, after 9800miles I whole heartedly recommend it. The panniers could do with being a little bigger. If you get on or have one, you absolutely must fit a front fender extender and a rear hugger. Safe riding!

I can completely agree with the other 2 replies here .. only been a few days but I'm very impressed with the bike. Feels like a bit of a handful weight and size wise initially (compared to thin, featherweight nakeds) but doesn't take long at all to get used to it. The comfort, wind / weather protection, handling and torque / power are all very much on point .. it can be effortlessly smooth and relaxed but also has a spark of wildness up above 4K rpm. Surprisingly good fun to ride ... throwing about a big heavy bike at speed on back lanes is a proper laugh ... and it'll crush long journeys with consummate ease. I'd highly recommend trying one 😉

      Hello there from England! Thanks for the nice comment, my mic is a rather cheap lavalier from Amazon, it was mentioned in a few videos where camera and mic setup was discussed. Your Rode mic may produce better results. I have my mic attached to the boom mic from my intercom. It sits behind the boom mic and the chin bar of the helmet. I also have a puig wind deflector on the screen to reduce wind turbulence. It works great BUT it seriously reduces the windflow into my helmet vents so I suffer from condensation on my visor of it's cold and/or wet outside which is a real pain!

    • @sebluddyshame443
      @sebluddyshame443 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The camera position was something this video highlighted to me and I agree with you, it does give a better view point on the helmet. It would also allow me to mention things to the side of me and show them with a turn of the head. The main reasons for it being mounted on the bike were firstly, I prefer not to have the camera on my helmet for fuelling up, especially paying for fuel with the flip front up and the camera still pointing towards the cashier; easily remedied by removing the helmet though. Secondly, I find the rapid head turning at junctions a little distracting on videos and thought bike mounted would give a steadier and more consistent viewing experience, and thirdly, the speedo is clearly visible. I'm not a speed demon by any stretch and stick pretty closely to the limits, especially in 30s 40s and 50 zones but whilst overtaking on a derestricted road I most likely do exceed the limit (temporarily of course)! Having said all that, I have one more video not yet edited with the camera mounted on the bars but the next ride I will definitely be with the camera on the helmet so I'm glad you mentioned that. It took me ages to position the mount onto the helmet (no surprise there I hear you saying), being a flip front made things more awkward but it's an easy change to make now the mount it attached. Watch this space for videos of EITHER the road OR the sky as my ham fisted attempt at starting a recording knocks the camera out of position. I'll just blame you in the vids if I do!!!!!

    I have a Neotec 2 as well, and I have placed a lavalier mic at the Sena SRL2 boom and another at one of the speakers. The objective is to get clear audio for GoPro 8 footage (separate recorder for audio, then mix with video). Only tried indoor so far (no blower...) and works fine until I fully close the visor. Then the sound from the mouth mic gets distorted/saturated. Did you notice a difference when fully closing the visor? Any idea of a workaround for my problem? I know there is an app called MYK, expected to be upgraded for GoPro 8 in about a month or so. Can control the GoPro and record audio from external mics that can be mixed with video in the app. Don't know if it will cure the distortion with fully closed visor though. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ignore the above - found the solution to my problem: Was putting a 3.5mm TRRS plug into my device - problem solved with a TRRS-TRS adapter! :-) - No I only guess I have the same challenge as you have left!! 😜

    • @sebluddyshame443
      @sebluddyshame443 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll have to look at the MYK app, I did notice the booming voice more when the visor was closed. It was better with the visor or the chin guard open bit only without the blower. Once the blower was turned on with the visor open, the wind noise was too much. I did try putting some foam onto the inside of the chin guard (it's just hard plastic) to see if it would absorb some of my voice and calm down any distortion but the foam I had didn't seem to make much difference and it was difficult not to rub against the mic when opening and closing the chin guard. The foam, incidentally, was the foam that sits into the helmet speaker recess. I took it out to install my speakers and tried that as it was close to hand. I will look at other thinner sound deadening and try that. The cover on my autocom boom is very thin foam covered with a fabric similar to what you would get around the ankle padding on a pair of trainers. I will try some self adhesive felt pads I have, they are meant for putting on furniture feet to stop damaging wooden floors, they are quite thin and may work. The gap where the chin piece goes over the main helmet near the hinge I put the fluffy side of a strip of velcro in the groove to partly seal the gap and reduce turbulence. You can't see it once the chin guard is closed. It's hard to say whether it made any real difference but was worth trying as it looks ok when in place. A voice recorder is something I'm looking into as the GoPro external mic adapter means the waterproofing has been compromised and many of my tours have been quite wet! I'll do a follow up video with any thing that I try, I just need some better weather.

      @@DayooAdventures in terms of noise, the shoei flip front is very similar to the arai full face that it replaced (it kept falling to bits), possibly even a little quieter. Something that dawned on me slowly was that when the big hair dryer was pointing at and around helmet, unless the vent or visor was open, I didn't feel any wind on my face. My cameras are the drift ghost S, mic plugs into camera on helmet, lead run through helmet and the mic is just pushed into the chin/cheek pad linning and helmet shell, level so no mic is poking out. Think that also helps to buffer out wind noise. Ohh and I believe I have mic volume level on camera setting at its lowest.. I'm not used to using any of the Go pro's, so can't help with there mic settings..there must be help on TH-cam somewhere ?.. when editing, if I have used any other camera that is on bike I mute that sound as it's just pure wind noise, but I'm guessing you know that lol..

      @@DayooAdventures thanks, ill try the mic in the cheek pad again, I think a lot of the noise is turbulence from the screen and I'm starting to think a contributing factor may be the sat nav mount above the clocks messing with the airflow from the vent at the bottom of screen which is supposed to stop the vacuum effect of a big screen through a bit of aerodynamic trickery . I started the mic position based on a vid from Nick Hodge as he has the same helmet and similar bike BMW GS to my tiger explorer and the same GoPro model...His audio seems much better. The GoPro has mic settings but its either standard or boost so I've kept it standard. The new wind deflector arrived and is ready to go on but the weekends weather is looking a bit garbage. I'll keep trying and eventually get the testing vid up. Thanks for your help!
