Some time ago I bought an older house and I am doing most of the renovation work on my own. So far I have gained experience with electrical work, heating and plumbing, painting, paving, tiling, masonry, concrete work, plastering and woodwork. I also do metal work occasionally, mostly a little bit of welding here and there.
For some time now, I've been keeping the camera running.
Since there is not always something to repair or renovate at my house, there won't be a video two times a week or so. I aim for a monthly rhythm. It may not work out sometimes. But I'll try to think of something, so it won't get too boring in here. In between, there will also be the occasional tool review.

Stump Grinding: Removing Tree Stumps With A Rented Stump Grinder
I wanted to create more space in my garden and cut down some small trees and bushes. To get rid of the remaining 20 tree stumps and root stocks I rented a small stump grinder from the hardware store. Under the watchful eyes of Hahnibert and his five lady-friends (aka "The Girls") I went to work. In this video I show what it truly means to stay on the (stump-) grind. 🙂

Bosch PBD 40 | Review and Field Report After 5 Years Of Drilling in Metal
มุมมอง 59K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The Bosch PBD 40 bench drill has been helping me for the past 5 years to drill small and not so small holes into steel. Thanks to its design, it can even be (mis-)used as a magnetic drill. For a bench drill costing around 250,- Euro, that's actually quite ok, isn't it? The video footage in this video is from the past 5 years. And the machine still works, in case anyone is wondering. :-) Links t...
How to Hang IKEA Kitchen Cabinets on the Wall + 3 Tips and Tricks for Uneven Walls (METOD SEKTION)

Installing A New Basement Floor Drain (and New Underground Drainage Pipes) | All Steps Concrete Work
มุมมอง 38K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Soon to be 75 years old, my old basement drain has faithfully done its job and has now developed a slight patina. Time for a well-deserved retirement. And because it should not be lonely in Valhalla, I send the old cast iron pipe as a companion and install new undergound drainage pipes instead (the orange ones). I had initially suspected that stoneware pipes were installed. I had already encoun...
Great video! Thank you for making this and sharing your tips and tricks. I need to fit one of these rails this weekend. I was unsure what fixing to use. I have some bolts identical to the ones you used which gives me confidence. I will use those ones ☺️
Thanks and best of luck to you! Keep in mind that the rails I use in the video are from Ikea for Ikea cabinets. There are similar rail systems from other manufacturers but they may differ slightly.
Great soundtrack! Funny editing too :)
Thanks a lot!
Man, so much better than usa piping......awesome work!
Thank you!
Is someone using this in 2024?Pls write if you can
I am still using it.
In the end, I got rid of the PBD40 because of the machine head wobble. th-cam.com/video/3IsRIDdp05o/w-d-xo.html it was a very good machine, usable for many things, but I decided that I need a better, more powerful one. There are things I am missing from the PBD 40, like the depth gauge and the 200 rpm lowest speed, but my new machine goes down to 280 rpm and the depth gauge can be added externally, so it's fine for me. Here is the machine I replaced with: th-cam.com/video/5_HTjUOUsf8/w-d-xo.html The new machine is better in many ways, it is much quieter and definitely more rigid and way more precise. No wobbling anywhere, so I don't regret my decision, even if not everything is perfect in this machine. But I would not recommend this machine, because it is not problem free and also because I have no experience with any other machines except the ones I have or have had.
I would think that the head wobble is not a big deal if you center punch before drilling. Or is it?
@@hans.talhoffer It is a big deal because it can start to wobble even if you pre-drill or use a center punch. Wobbling is no big deal if you only use it in wood, but if you are like me, and mostly work with metal then a better, more rigid machine is necessary. Of course, that means also more space is needed, and the machine is no longer portable.
@@AdaptingCamera I use the machine for metal 95% of the time and wobbling didn't matter even once to me. If I may ask, what was the diy project you couldn't get done because the drill was wobbling?
I have just bought this machine but I also have a 12 speed industrial pillar drill with coolant sprays & filtration tank which makes easy work of drilling steel plates etc & which is the one I would use for the project you have done & lets be honest the Bosch is a a sort of professional DIY drill & as such has limited capabilities when requiring heavier duty use
I definitely pushed it to the max. Yes, it's a DIY drill and not suited for regular heavy duty use.
Well that certainly answers my question "cant it drill holes in steel?" 😆
It can drill holes in steel but it can't steal drills in holes. 🙂
what length expansion bolts and screws did you use?
Useful tips cheers. I'm glad to see you are using as many of the hundreds of glazing blocks as possibe. I hate waste. 😉👍
Thanks! As it looks now my glazing block supply will still last for centuries to come and benefit lots of descendants. Never will they lack a glazing block come what may. At least I made sure of that!
the way you put the washers upside down creates the risk of them sliding down the screw when there's weight on the rail and coming off the screw through the larger hole
This way one has more space to adjust the height. An no, there is no risk of the rail coming off because the head of the screw prevents the washer from coming loose. You can try it. Pull the washer down and try to pull it off the screw. The rim of the head will prevent it.
Do you need to sharp the blade, when its new?
No, though you need later on of course.
Palse make more video about installing Ikea! A kitchen for exempel.
Nice!
Grazie, amico!
Nice video. I would have made sure the rails joined in the middle of a cabinet and not between two cabinets.
Thanks, this is a very good tip! Aligning the cabinets would've indeed been easier this way.
Thank you. Omg this is exactly what I needed. I’ve been looking everywhere to try to figure this rail out.
You're welcome!
I am hanging one rail with two 36 inch cabinets next to each other about 15 inches down from the ceiling, do I have to concern myself with shimming any gaps? I am thinking not, since it is one rail that the two cabinets will be hanging from. However, I don’t want to be surprised hand have to do it all over. The space I am working in is 74 inches wide.
Generally speaking, shimming is needed when there is misalignment between the cabinets because of an uneven wall. Just fix the rail and hang the cabinets and you will very likely be fine. In case there is some misalignment you then can still apply the shims or maybe even decide that you can live with it.
Very useful review. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Wonderful video, very detailed and informative, I hope you are still getting pleasure from your work. Good luck.
Thank you for the very nice comment!
Very useful, thank you! Where is the tabletop from?
Thanks! The top is made from two wood panels I bought at my local DIY-store, though I had to cut them to size and connect the two panels with pocket hole screws and biscuits (biscuit jointer). I also did some routing, sanding and used two coats of hard wax oil with sanding in between to finish it off.
Your explanation, perfectly synchronized with the video, is excellent! Very helpful! Thank you very much!
Thank you for the nice comment!
What country was this done in?
Germany
What clamp brand did you use? That white steel does look solid!
The brand is "Optimum".
@@hans.talhoffer thanks hans!!
@@javilo2797 You're welcome!

Thanks!
Excellent video with useful commentary. I would appreciate if you could also upload similar for clay drains.
Seems like I will have to live without your appreciation then.
Great video, I have the same drill and I did some modifications to mine (chuck, bearings, handle and anti-wobbling spacer) but the whole head unit still has side to side wobble of around 0.5mm when pushed or when doing more "heavy duty" jobs, like cutting steel using large hole saw. Do you have the same issue with yours? I've noticed some wobbling in the video, but I am curious how serious is it in your case? Or maybe this is just the "feature" of this particular model from Bosch?:)
There is some small but noticable "wobble" with mine too. I always use a center punch and pre drill larger holes so it doesn't matter to me. For (realtively) heavy duty "diy" use, like in my video, this machine is more of a makeshift. A makeshift that still performs very well in my opinion and has a good size for a small workshop like mine. Drilling machines from "Optimum" are still very affordable and have a guaranteed concentricity accuracy of less than 0.03 mm. I looked at them when I was in the market but decided on the Bosch because somewhat cheaper, smaller and more "features". 🙂
@@hans.talhoffer I have the same feelings, there are of course more precise options on the market, like the Optimum you mentioned (or maybe even an used, old-school, industrial-grade drill), but it comes with the expense of an added weight and for a DIY guy like me it's easier to store compact 11kg Bosch than full grown 35+ kg pillar drill:) Mine after all the mods i did have 0.07mm of run-out on the chuck, which I would say is "not great, not terrible";) but there is another +0.25/-0.25 of the head side to side play. But I think for the money it performs quite well and with a punch and pre-drilled holes as you mentioned the precision is good enough for me:)
@@msz0mb142 Yes, exactly. Also, it let's you mount it directly on the workpiece which is not possible with a pillar drill. I would also consider a small milling machine for improved precision. A new one is about 950 Euros here.
2 Makita 18V batteries in 5amp or is 6amp better?
Danke❤
Gern geschehen!
Mine died after about 2 years of seldom use. It first appeared to tun at max rpm (couldn't lower down the rpm). Now it wants to start but cuts out. Brushes look good - on par with the little use it has seen. It's disappointing the elctronics biard is potted so not possible to repair - only replace. This is based on online research - others have pointed to this board as frequent failure. I'm not there yet - still need to take it apart
Rather than chip wall you can place spacers along the bracket to account for the bottom being out of plumb.
One would then have to place spacers on the bottom as well. This would be very impractical because the spacers would have to be glued to the wall. In case of the wall being evenly out of plumb you would be right though.
@@hans.talhoffer Shouldn't need to do that. Because the rail is out of plumb in a, let's call it, negative direction. The lower half of the cabinet to be plumb would need to dig into the wall (as shown in your video) By placing additional shims on the rail (top), you are accounting for the negative plumb at the rail making it even with the spacers (bottom). You can also do the opposite with wall cabinets, for example I removed some of the bottom spacers and added shims to others to compensate for out of plumb by up to 3mm over a metre. To add shims to bottom, simply pull the spacer out a bit then shim and hammer back in. These tips are from my recent kitchen install, and thanks for your video it helped me understand the suspension rails system!
@@gavin_hill "To add shims to bottom, simply pull the spacer out a bit then shim and hammer back in. " I show this in the video at 4:38 🙂 In my opinion it was easier to remove a little bit of plastering in just 4 places than to use shims for the whole length of the two rails. Of course if your walls are made out of plasterboard you don't really have this option. In this case your solution would be the best and only solution.
can you talk about the wooden top cover panel is it also sold in Ikea?
I made the top and side panels myself out of glued wood panels that I bought from the diy store.
I love the demo with tall nettles, since that's a problem I often have, thank you for a really effective demo!

Can someone explain to me why he (at 3:05) inserted that orange pipe within the diameter of the the existing old pip? ..Based on my engineering logic wouldn’t it make sense to match the circumference of the existing pipe and connect end to end? Him inserting that smaller pipe inside of the old one created an obstruction (or lip) that impedes the flow from the house into the sewer.
If watching the video doesn't explain it, there is nothing I can do to explain it any more than that. I mean there is nothing "he" can do...

Hi, can this Bosch drill have its body swing 180 degrees around the main post to the back so that base plate is out of the way, to drill some thick or long stock, end grain, or dog holes on a bench? Thank you !

Yes, and it's still going strong. Never had a dissapointment with Makita and I own a lot of tools from them.
Hi. Anyone knows the difference between DLM432PT2 and DLM432CT2 ?
Hi, it looks pretty much identical. There may be different type designations for different countries. I bought my DLM432 in Germany. Ususally with Makita they have a model code, in this case DLM432, followed by an accessory code. So "PT2" and "CT2" designate the included accessories witch seem to be the same.
Can these IKEA kitchen type cabinets just hang from those braces? And therefore no need for feet or anything else to hold up the cabinet at the bottom? Thanks so much. Would be great if you could also add the level info to the video. Such a great idea to use. Thanks so much
Thank you for the nice comment. Yes, exactly. No need for feet with these cabinets. As with any wall hanging cabinets for kitchens, btw. You don't have to use the ones from Ikea. What dou you mean with "the level info"?
Thank you !!! ( I meant to ask you which lazer lever you used in the tool list in the description video, but I see it’s listed already.)
@@olivepressdesign Ah ok. And you're welcome!
Did you do a leak test before cementing it?
Leak testing these pipes is done using special equipment and air pressure. If I was to test the segment I replaced in the video I would have to dig up the other side of the house, break up the concrete pipe, seal the pvc pipe at that end, seal the two sections inside the house, pressurize the pipes and see if there is any loss in air pressure after a certain amount of time. So you tell me if I did a leak test before cementing... 🙂
@@hans.talhoffer you also could just try running water through it with a hose as a much simpler test. Doesn’t need to be overly complicated bro.
@@jjwe2002 These pipes are inserted one into the other and are sloped so the water drains even without the gasket without any issue or leakage. In fact I used the drain this way during the installation process. Kitchen sink, dishwasher and washing machine were connected all the time when I was not working. The gaskets are there if pipe blockages occur and prevent leakage in case of backwater and flooding of the pipes. The gasket is 360° and if you want to do a leak test you have to do it the way I described. Sometimes the gasket can get pushed inside the pipe during the fitting process. This can happen anywhere around the pipe not only at the bottom.
Great video! Could you put in a 6amp battery?
Thanks and yes. You can fit any Makita 18 volt battery.
Hey! Great video. Will this weird IKEA washer take 7x50 wood screw, or 6x50 is the maximum diameter of the screw?
