Lots of eagles have been killed on Stuart Highway. Trucks hit kangaroos and leave them on the road. There is no law thst they have to stop and remove them from the road
Love seeing freight train riders hiding in the welll body. Not a common sight in Australia, very common in the USA. Hope they had plenty of food and water.
I don't see any signals or points indicators either at the entrance or exit of the loop. How do drivers know which way points are set, and when it's OK to leave?
Don't know about the points, but I believe that everything along this line is done over the radio. I'm guessing track occupancy permit. Based on my guess, I suppose that the Rail Traffic Controller would be telling the train if they would take a siding for a meet, or hold the main.
I found it, it's Wallaroo, Western Australia. You can find it on Giggle Maps. I found it by scrolling the map west of Cook along that train line, until I saw Wallaroo.
Sounds like you didn’t explore your state very much. A majority of NSW is train order, and either Mechanical frames or MLIs are present rather than signals
@@railtrolley Adelaide didn't have any 3'6" railway at all. The start point was Port Augusta, which was 3'6". Adelaide passengers joined the Ghan, with connecting services on the 5'3" out of Adelaide to Terowie, and then 3'6" from Terowie where they joined the Ghan at Quorn. Once Port Pirie and Port Augusta was connected by rail, Adelaide passengers then went by 5'3" from Adelaide to Port Pirie, then 4'8.5" from Port Pirie to Port Augusta to join the narrow gauge Ghan.

Rawlinna had a hospital ,cinema, general store, primary school, post office, repeater station weather observation station, fuel depot , train crew rest barracks, and a pub( institute) runway for RFDs population was about 120 slightly bigger than Cook. It also had a significant number of cattle and sheep stations that it catered to. Skylab came within milliseconds of destroying Rawlinna in 1979 large amounts of Skylab debris can still be found South West of Rawlinna. Fun facts the post office in Rawlinna also served as a bank and it was robbed around 1978 by 2 outsiders.
Speaking Australian.
and the Americans think they have big trains 😂😂😂
Isn't called the Nullarbor?
Those pepper trees are toxic
Short mixed train.
Wow, that’s flat …
Good job I could read the coversation because I could not make sense of the language.
Just to clarify I believe that Cook is named after one of the early Prime Ministers, not the British navigator!
Is this on the continuous straight section?
Amazing...
I did many trips on the Nullabor. Never a dull moment. I've seen it dry and green after good rains.
Nullabor
Went across Nullabour both ways in 1982. Where do the Eagles nest now as all the telegraph poles are gone?

Not too late to edit the title, mate. "Nullarbor", not "Nullabour".
Train orders and radio dispatch works good
Good clear communication between controller & train.

Nice video
Reminds me of what the Tornado crews used to say in the Gulf War when they were flying over "MMFD" (miles and miles of f******g desert!)
Dang, but what a lot of nothing! Reminds me of when I lived in Arizona. Certain parts of Arizona was the same way. Just saying.
I love the Nullarbor so much.
Shows how really flat and treeless the Nullarbor really is! Thanks!
Ex British train driver here. Do you use the phonetic alphabet at all?
yes, phonetics are used in the train numbers (and occasionally loco classification). Locations are just spelled out normally.
Nullarbor. it's spelled Nullarbor. Means no trees.
When I took the Indian Pacific and stopped in Cook I was told: Human population 2; Flies 2 billion. It was almost true.

Thanks. Presumably the turnouts are electric: do they depend on solar power? Or are there power lines?
solar and wind powered for the batteries that operate the points and the point enhancers.
Wallaroo is on the York peninsula, is it not? NSW.

As an ex driver for Railcorp I'm not used to seeing no signal on the departure end of that crossing loop.
Sounds like they're traversing sections via verbal authority or possibly AAs, not 100% sure though

@@chrisszollos1543 the authorities are written down by the enginemen, verbatim as the controller dictates the authority, so it is a written authority.

0:31. Was this the former NG line?
built as SG between 1912 and 1917
You might be thinking of the old Ghan: Adelaide to the Alice. Was 3'6" gauge.

There is NO 'U' in Nullarbor.
There is in Null.
👍👍👍👍🍺😀🦘🇦🇺
Its spelled 'NullarBOR'...not BOUR.
👍👍🦘🇦🇺
I really enjoy watching your videos
Hey mate notice not every train in your videos has a crew car, what's story there?
👍👍👍👍🦘🇦🇺
Where are those inhabitants?
Not sure now but they probably run the service station and general store!
Nullarbor has no 'U'. It is derived from Latin & means 'No tree' Including a 'U' is incorrect!
There is in Null.
Yeah but why fill with water in Cook? both Forrest and Rawlinna had better drinking water than Cook, Cook had very saline water.
Rawlinna had a hospital ,cinema, general store, primary school, post office, repeater station weather observation station, fuel depot , train crew rest barracks, and a pub( institute) runway for RFDs population was about 120 slightly bigger than Cook. Rawlinna used to be the main rest area for drivers.
There have been promotional vid where they stop at Rawlina for either a sunset dining experience or eastbound a gourmet breakfast.
First learn to hold camera steady.. Thanks it was a small clip..
The locomotive controls seem so simplified ... there's more in my old Ford Fiesta banger - I expect at lot more's delegated to computerised systems
