Par to Gunther Ramin (who was his teacher); from tempi to registrations. One of the few who dares to play the second part of the monumental fugue in "Doppio Movemento" as indicated, and follows Reger's subsequent metronomical markings to go faster as it moves on. Like it should be played.
An inspirational performance of my favourite Bach work. I am not in the least bit familiar with this instrument but it seems that much of its character lies in the mutations and mixtures of each division. Karl Richter's genius managed to shape this into a coherent grandeur that still allowed the fascinating colours to shine through. Bravo.
L’orgue d’Ottobeuren a vraiment une sonorité unique, qui ajoute à la magnifique interprétation de Richter. Je retiens dans la 548 de Bach le tempo de Richter, lequel permet de mieux appuyer les accents dramatiques de l’œuvre. Merci pour ce partage!
One can hear the wind chests trying their best to supply the requisite air when he’s playing with full organ. Alas, they failed… the wind pressure was sorely insufficient as this genius played. But, he made it work! One hopes that this wind supply trouble has been remedied: they had 48yrs to upgrade the blowers!
So rare that Im the only English person watching rn!!!!!
This is one of the greatest organ concerts ever recorded and I’ve heard all of the greats since Virgil Fox in the early 1970s (who also died in 1980).

EQUALIZER Variante 'Caruso EQ Referenz' (update Einstellung!) *©2024* HL, Germany. +1,5 dB (60Hz) -12,9 dB (230Hz) -15,0 dB (910Hz) -15,0 dB (4kHz) +10,0 dB (14kHz) Die kleine Mühe der EQ- Einstellung *lohnt sich....* Eine "EMPFEHLUNG" hört den Unterschied ( yt ITbNY1PV_yg ) Probieren Sie bitte mit Handy- Steuerung die o a. EQ-Angabe Es ergibt einen *besseren Ton!* Sprung fast "Mono zu Stereo".
Der Beitrag wird ergänzt, weil's viele unterschiedliche EQ gibt. Er bezieht sich hier auf eine *'Bass Booster App'* (apk) - *ohne* Zuschalten des BASS BOOST. Die meisten bedienen an ihrem Gerät/Handy ja Bluetooth richtig: Bitte Audio-Output Stereo, 'Advanced settings' überprüfen, *'Compatibility* Mode' der App 🎧 und evtl 'Sound Field FLAT' Ihrer Anlage (den BBoost nicht - oder vorsichtig verwenden). Auf *Artikulation* bzw Instrumente achten, dann wird der Effekt deutlich. Einige denken, das sei weniger wichtig; - *es ist* wichtig! "Ohr des Dionysios" - sehr beeindruckend: ein 'musikalisches *Relief'* wird hörbar. Modulation mit 'Bass Booster App': Der Klangcharakter der Stimmen wird dadurch nicht geändert. Weil jedoch die mMn. *kaum hörbaren* Obertonanteile >>3kHz crescendo-verstärkt werden, gewinnt die neue Wiedergabe relevant Brillanz (selbst die Akustik wirkt echt) und *Text* ist gut *verständlich.* Eine 'Zeitreise...' So klar haben Sie es noch nie gehört!
Bach’s greatest Prelude & Fugue played too fast. At least Richter performed all of the fugue subject’s measure-long trills.
No even beat to the begging notes. Strange. Apparently I play it too metronomically. Pedal a little too loud in the middle section.
Audience did not know a fugue follows? Or loves the prelude so much they applaud? Wonderful applause after.
They thought he was doing the Fantasy alone as an encore. That crowd was knowledgeable and were there because of him. The way they cheered afterwards reminded me of audience at Virgil Fox concerts

@beto1515 Fernando Germani - WOW.... really unique sound and interpretation on that EMI recording....and what talent! Thank you for introducing this Bach recording as I love Toccata. I think it is all about preferences. For me, I prefer the feeling of Karl Richter's playing but certainly Fernando is top class!!! Isn't it wonderful to have these wonderful recordings with their own interpretations?
Yes same recording but too fast. If you stabilize this sound on a high end audio system it will BLOW YOU AWAY.
Karl Richter was KING BACH organ player for Toccata & Fugue. INSANE technique and this was 1950s!!!! OMG. I need to check my recording but should be same as this ...BUT THIS VERSION IS WAAAAY TOO FAST. Maybe copyright issues so sped up. Played on a high quality audio system this sounds AMAZING with the air being pumped around the room. ONE OF THE GREAT RECORDINGS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC.
I'm personally not a big fan of this recording. The staccato notes make is seem much less dramatic than it should be in my opinion. Richter has better recordings of this piece that I enjoy far more than this one.
Another great performance by Richter. In the Prelude, you can feel the pulse so well. It's rare to see organ used like this especially by someone like Bach, but I love it. The ending of the fugue is incredible. The chromatism really makes you feel uneasy. What an incredible BWV.

It's still a great interpretation, but you can say that his health was declining. He was only 54 but this music speaks of a much older person.
Meine Seele weint, wenn ich sein geniales Spiel höre, ich bin fast 90 und habe viele Jahre in einer Kirche aus dem 13. Jh. im Chor gesungen. Es gibt nichts Schöneres als solch begnadetes Spiel. Warum musste er so früh sterben?
