Following on some comments I read, Camille as Sloth is really interesting on the original intention of it. Most striking to me is her last scene with her assistants, she throws herself on the bed and only wants to starfish and do mothing lol. It made me think it really does work. Especially her death scene with this in mind, she didn't care enough to live or fight back bc she's already dead inside. I definitely agree Victorine is Pride. Her refusal to admit defeat is so strong she forgets she murdered her wife. To me Froderick and Napoleon are the least clear. I definitely think Gluttony for Napoleon works, as we see his indulgence in drugs more than sex which is Prospero. But considering his story is that of the Black Cat, Wrath definitely has a place. The original is about a man who grows to hate his wife and cat so much he kills her. So anger for him would definitely have worked if it weren't for Frederick. Maybe his drug addiction is meant to represent a quick fall into Gluttony, as well as him going after his wife's teeth- but there isn't much strong subtext that it was a case of indulgence rather than his anger at her. Because his anger, Wrath is really the main forefront of his episode and fall from grace- his last interaction with Lenore is yelling at her, he mutilates his wife and threatens everyone in sight. If it weren't for Victorine he would also be a contender for Pride getting to his head. Personally I don't think it'd be wrong to see Napoleon and Frederick as a mix of Gluttony and Anger. Anger is both a trait they show in their last moment- and how Leon killed Pluto in a drug fueled rage. Then they both indulge in drugs, which is something Leon passes to Freddy thru the coke. And there might be something in the original meaning of Gluttony that would reflect Freddy's early behavior, being the favorite and taking, the way we're shown him for the first time is his wife making a cake? It's all very interesting This is a fun video I binged the show yesterday, thank you for the new layers added.

After rewatching this I stand by what I said. In a year full of remakes and direct sequels Baldur's Gate and Mario Wonder were the only ones who brought anything fresh to the table and while Baldur's Gate 3 def deserved the victory people were way too harsh to Mario

Silent Hill 2 remake was snubbed. IDK if it would've won but it deserved a chance man

This is the best video on the characters comparison to the deadly sins. I thought that there was an overlap of the sins, I was only sure about Prospero’s association with lust and Napoleon’s gluttony. You have explained this wonderfully, it makes complete sense now

Can't believe I caught this so early! Great to see you back! Really enjoyed this, I agree with most of your rankings but I'd personally swap Midnight mass and Usher. I loved both, but the oppressive atmosphere of Midnight Mass was so well done, even when its not frightening you feel on edge, and the angels/vampires were incredible! I also didn't know that The midnight club was meant to have a 2nd season but that explains a lot. I enjoyed the show but don't remember much about it. I agree with you both on it would've benefited from a 2nd season to really come into itself. I'd love to see your thoughts on A24 horror or Jordan peele films!

I don't really see the family as the seven deadly sins. I see each child moreso representing a portion of Roderick's own sins, each choosing to repeat aspects of his own flaws that he himself never paid for. And Lenore is the potential for good that Roderick and Madeline chose not to fulfill.

Yellow is the color of fat, which could be associated with gluttony. Blue is the color of depression which could be associated with sloth. A Little ableist of me but there it is.

Hear me out on this: Camille is Sloth. I mean, I *know,* but if you look at how the sin of sloth was originally defined in theological sources, it's not necessarily about laziness qua laziness; the connotations are of *spiritual* torpor. Nihilistic despair, cynicism, and a sense of utter fatalistic indifference -- not even caring that you don't care -- to the point of self-annihilation. Camille being a workaholic who's utterly dead inside and accepts her fate calmly is actually a really neat spin on that. Which means you can reshuffle to make Victorine Pride and Frederick Wrath, which I personally prefer.

I think most were spot on but I'd argue: Victorine was Pride, her inability to admit failure wound up being her ultimate downfall. It was pride that led her to take far more credit for their experiments than she truly deserved. Napoleon was Wrath, he kept his emotions reigned in with cocktails of drugs but in their absence he let his rage overtake him leading to his downfall. And Camille was Gluttony, but not in the 'food' sense. She was a glutton for information and control as well as being something of a workaholic. The white perhaps representing a blank canvas or emptiness that never seemed to be filled, and she seemed to share a close affinity with Leo and his pursuits of pharmaceutical satisfaction.

I do think the colors were very deliberate to each character. The sins, not so much. Every sibiling was guility from some form of sin. You can say Leo was Lust, because of his infidelity and his "reputation" of a stud. You could give pride to all of them, Envy fits perfectly to Camille, who hated Vic for being what she could't be, But also Perry, because he wanted to be taken as seriously as anybof his other sibilings. It reminds me of the theory for the Cranes from Haunting of Hill House...Stages of grief? Which was never confirmed by none of the original cast or crew.

If I’m being honest I do associate Lenore with something, but not a sin I associate her with the heavenly virtue of kindness as she is the only good usher and was willing to defy her father and help her mother

Great video! I'm only at Victorine rn but will catch up as I get through the series! You've laid everything out so clearly so far though! Never thought about them representing the deadly sins, but now it seems so obvious!

Honestly I didn't think about colors while watching this show at all, I was too gripped by the mystery 😅 But all that you said makes total sense, so kudos!

Yeah the colour theory theming is a bit silly. Like for some there's the clear connection towards their sins, but for many the colour grading is mostly to seperate out the characters, to make them feel more isolated and stuck in their own worlds, to seperate out their themes, not to actually brand there themes. Except for Tammy and Prospero, but green for envy and red for lust are so strongly associated it would have been strange not to lean into it as they did, also Prospero's death being based on the masque of the red death meant his colour HAD to be red anyway. Camile I don't understand how anyone can think her colour was anything but white. He hair is white, her outfits are all white as the focal colour, and of course white is perfect for pride. It's pristine, perfect, untouchable, sterile, angelic, all things well connected with pride.
