@@inside_joke I'm using some of your sounds on a daily basis. I liked the Kurzweil before. Now it's near perfect. The only thing I'd like to upgrade is the keyboard. I've not opened it up yet, and there are no videos online. I was wondering if the keyboard hardware connectors and screws were the same as fatar keybeds, to replace the Medelli one day. The action is quite good, sure it's not bad, but the building quality won't last (same as fatar tp100lr, they tend to wear out fast. Though imo tp100lr action is bad).

I'd like to purchase one of your Rhodes sounds because I'm not satisfied with the onboard one. It's good but the velocity layers are reacting strange, no matter the velocity curve I'm using. My go to rhodes vst is Vintage Vibe 88 Keyscape Spectrasonics. Is one of your sounds similar ? The MK8 maybe ?

@@calcairecamhi well. I agree with the keybed limitations. Kurz should create a desktop or rack version of its Forte/K2700. My solution is less elegant, I use a VPC1 for piano and a Roland synth for most other sounds. For some sounds, like Rhodes, I do like the fatar keybeds. Already I can feel a difference between my Forte (5yo) and my brand-new K2700, aging goes fast. If you find a workaround, you should share it, many struggle with this.

@@calcairecamhi It's pretty tricky to give you solid advice on this one because the velocity layers a so personal. I have a heavy touch. What I do try, is to use more layers and find natural transitions and build-up. It is not linear. My Golden Rhodes is one to try (MK1) and for the MK8 I am going to update that one soon, it's an already a beauty, but time gives new tricks for improvement.

@@inside_joke I usually use a YAMAHA S90 XS Mono Piano for live gigs, but I would like to use my Kurzweil Forte, it is very musical. So something that is mono and cuts through a band in Pop/Jazz would be really helpful

@@hannesoberwalder5676 I have the S90ED Natural Grand, is that the same basic piano sound? The thing about mono piano's on stage is mostly about avoiding phase problems that can occur with a stereo or binaural sound. If you keep the lower range mono, you should be okay.

@@inside_joke Yes, I know. With the S90 XS there is no problem at all, there are various keymaps for good mono pianos, but I would like to play with the Kurzweil Forte in the future. The mono pno keymaps there are really old and not exactly for my taste. Therefore I am looking for a newer Kurzweil mono piano sound. A stereo pno recorded in X/Y, MS Stereo or Blümlein would also work

@@hannesoberwalder5676 I read the White Grand it popular with 'mono' players, they use the right output. Same for the S6 grand from the S90 and later models. I will create a patch for that- on the long list so will take some weeks.

Hello Pat. You got it right altogether: I make several multisample layers, basically variations on itself. De round-robin mutes the higher copies of itself, preventing double or triple use of polyphony. The muting is called opaque. This is an option to mute higher layers when active. This can be make dependent on a key velocity switch as well: so a layer PPP can mute another PPP layer but leave (for example) a MF layer alone. This way, you can make pretty complex configurations of a single multisample (called keymap in the Kurz). To make well use of a timbre shift, you need to sample at least all the relevant white notes. Or else you would be cycling the same samples. Hope this helps you on the way.

The forte has more flashram and a 76key version, not too heavy for me.

K2061 is "soon to be released", but with less sample ROM vs Forte (2 Gb vs 16 Gb) which affects mostly acoustic and electric piano multisamples, and less RAM (2 Gb vs 3.4 Gb)

Since my PC4SE is sample memory excluded I thought I couldn't add any kind of external sounds, but there are some sounds ( the formats allowed by Kurzweil)l that I can really use. I really like the cfx and c7 pianos in the YC of Yamaha. Is there a way to have them on my PC4SE or Do I have to upgrade to a regular PC4 or k2700. By the way I am blown away for all your knowledge. Most of the time as I read your description I did not know what you were talking about. Thanks for takinthe time to share it.

@@angelmirmartinez9096 Thank-you, although the PC4se is a great instrument an upgrade to a PC4 (or maybay the upcoming K2061/88) will give you 'a world' of extra sounds. Mabay you can trade you SE in at a music store - sometimes you can make a good deal. With the Flashram you will not be able to get those fancy pianos.

@@inside_joke It is good to know that there is a way to have those piano sounds. Upgrading doesn't seem soon for me. There is no trade in where I live and I think K2088 will be almost as heavy as a K 2700. If I manage to do it I will ask you how to get them. Thanks.

erm I beg to differ ootb maybe BUT if you load the right samples and believe me I have had all the major synths incl a Kronos which I liked, into the Kurz then its game over. Let me say this subs to Inside_Joke pattern get the Rhodes and Grandeur. How he got the Grandeur to sound as good as the NI one is beyond me considering the size. I had to eq the NI one to give it body (I normally do that) and did add eq mainly bass on the Kurz its just sublime. Kurz is like a sports car until you activate its bells and whistle you can maybe feel a bit underwhelmed , with em on and it's NO Contest.

@@inside_joke But seriously! I mean even the first Kronos already had an inbuilt 30 GB SSD which allowed streaming directly from there, later models had 60. And of course you could do exactly the same trick with using other libraries. Fact though is, whilst these are just samples, the Kronos has 9 Sound engines. Not just three like the Forte/2700. And I'd be indeed hard impressed if you'd manage to get the sounds of the virtual acoustic engine into the K. Let alone and MS-20, Polysix. Or alternatively reprogram those with vast. Which on my K2500XS. Whilst impressive, it's also pretty complicated. There have been geeks to program KB3, but that's not what everyone is capable of.

@@torbenanschau6641 Seriously, SSD is not comparable to FLASH ram. Loading times are zero, and you have Seamless sound switching, for musicians a big thing. FLASH is crazy expensive, although getting more available now, like in the Nord Stage. Personally, the playing comfort with FLASH is so much better. Latency wise, the Kurz feels more direct and like a musical instrument. The Kurz needs only 1 sound engine (VAST), all is build around it. It goes much, much deeper than Kronos sys. For one, the VAST sample engine is comparable to Kontakt (sample startpoint modulation etc, multisample groups, random switches), that's why you can convert those libraries better. And the sound is way better, if you know what you are doing. The kronos emulations (MS-20 etc.) are nice synths of course, but feel like a gimmick. If you owned a Polysix you know it sounds way, way better. Yes, VAST is complicated and not for everyone, it's the same for modular synthesis or other open systems. But endusers can profit from other sounddesigners doing the hard work.

Hi Don, the Forte has more flashmemory, the K2700 doubles the polyphony. And there are small differences like a audio interface for the 2700. I would always go for the Forte.

0:45 ​​@@donleinoi own Forte, it have 16 GB of samples instead of 4,5 GB on K2700. K2700 have more polyphony (256 voices instead of 128), but on Forte KB3 mode have free polyphony, not counted into these 128 voices. FM engine, VA oscillators etc are same. If you are looking for good orchestra, there is some 3rd party libs which sounds great (Epic Orchestra). Also some other great from Barb&Co, from Dave Weiser great epianos, or you can import programs from PC3/4. Thousands of great programs.
