Channel Islands National Park | One Night Stay on Santa Cruz Island
มุมมอง 7327 หลายเดือนก่อน
I can’t say enough good things about our Channel Islands National Park; especially Santa Cruz Island. This was my first visit to Santa Cruz and it won’t be my last. With only one night on the island, I was able to get in two great day hikes during my stay. It can be a challenge getting a campsite on any of the islands in the park because sites are limited and it’s a popular destination. Fortuna...
Making the Hiker Trash Radio Sign
มุมมอง 1057 หลายเดือนก่อน
When I’m not going “outdoors” to connect with mother nature and recoup from everyday life, I try occupying my free time with another one of my endless lists of hobbies. Woodworking is probably at the top of that list. One simple, but fun and therapeutic wood project I first discovered way back in the 9th grade was sign carving. I always wonder what happened to that very first sign I carved in w...

How to Demolition a Pool and Save Money: Do It Yourself
มุมมอง 1.6K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
As a homeowner, I can’t always get outdoors to hike and backpack. Fixing and maintaining that home always gets in the way of my outdoor fun. Demolishing a pool hands-down is the biggest chore I’ve ever had on my never-ending list of “things I need to do around the house” Was I excited about it? Not in the slightest. Although I’m happy that I’m no longer a pool owner. The job was tough, stressfu...
Backpacking the Big SEKI (Sequoia/Kings Canyon) Loop North Part 2

The 155-mile Big SEKI Loop is located in the Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The trail was originally created as an alternate to the popular John Muir Trail. Although shorter than the JMT by 56 miles, it’s still just as beautiful and challenging. The trail takes in portions of the John Muir and High Sierra Trails and can be modified to fit one’s needs an...

I made it to 1,000 subscribers on TH-cam so I created my own unique play button. I call it the Wood & Stone award. The materials used to make the button are sandblasted redwood panel and a piece of granite. Do I need to be recognized by TH-cam for reaching 1,000 subscribers? No, not at all. This was really just a fun way to do something fun and announce the milestone achievement and to say Than...

    Fantastic video, man! I've always wanted to visit Beales Cut, but I'm now past my prime,and I'd be nervous about the rattlers! Your video is the next best thing. I'm a history buff and a classic movie fan, so this would be like a pilgrimage to me. Its still debated today whether Tom Mix actually jumped the cut, or if it was a stunt double, or even animation. Like you said we'll probably never know. Awesome that John Ford used it so many times! Weird to see a stagecoach go through the cut in his film of the same name, just like it had been used 50 years earlier! Keep up the good work, and hopefully Newhall can get its act together and preserve this historical site!

    • @ColemanOutdoors
      @ColemanOutdoors 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh that is so awesome. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much. Sorry for the delayed response too. If you want to go check out the Cut, let me know. The snakes and weeds can be avoided if you walk in from the northeast side. That's where I exited and there weren't any weeds!! Let me know and we can meet and I'll walk lead the way. That would be awesome if Newhall fixed it, although I suspect it would cost a ton of money and the local tax payers might object. Fingers cross some bazillionare that loves history will make a massive donation someday. ;)

    I loved that❣️ (Valencia homeowner 1978 to present) Thanks for filming this for us. I have driven through that portion of Sierra Highway more than a thousand times during my commute to work and back. (It always seemed quicker than the 14.) But all this time, I thought that Beale's Cut was actually on Sierra Highway and was eventually widened. I thought I was driving through a piece of history.😂 Surprised to learn that Beale's Cut is actually in a different spot.

Every time I drive by the Cut I think back to my childhood and all the neat history we have coming out of our little piece of LA County. 😁

    How good is it when it comes to carrying notes and coins? I have an AKIELO wallet (quite similar but it can only hold notes on the outside of the card case) and was wondering if the Grip6 one has any capacity in holding coins besides notes.

    • @ColemanOutdoors
      @ColemanOutdoors 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't tried carrying coins. I'm going to assume...it won't work very well. The Wingman is great at holding a few notes though. Honestly, I was really hesitant to go the "minimalist wallet" approach. Changing 40 years of carrying your typical bill fold habit was scary.🤣 I'll never go back. It's refreshing not to have an overstuffed wallet with things I never needed. Let go of your out-of-date behavior, Maximilliam. Coins are for wishing wells and gumball machines. Buy a pack of gum at Wal-Mart and ""A real man makes his own luck."" Billy Zane. Titanic" Dwight Schrute. The Office.

    • @MaximilianBerkmann
      @MaximilianBerkmann 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ColemanOutdoors I see. I've been hoping it would combine the AKIELO card wallet (minimalist wallet that allows a heavy card user like myself to have some space for coins and notes) and the holder (that only carries 6 cards and can hold some notes). I wish I could go 100% cashless, but there are still events that only take cash and some tyre air machines only take cash. I've ditched the big wallets already but running events where some people pay on the day in cash doesn't help lol.

    I grew up in SCV from 1976 to 2011. Drove by the old oil refinery and the old Dukes of Hazard junk yard about everyday for years on the 14. I never knew the Beals cut was even there for years. I visited a few times over the years.Amazing all the history in such a small area right around that spot. All the iterations of the freeway including after the 2 big quakes. Sylmar and Northridge quakes. Melody ranch, oak of the golden dream etc. I still remember the Signal newspaper treasure hunts they used to do and frontier days rodeos. I miss riding my dirt bike right out of the garage into the hills in canyon country.Good times. Really enjoyed the video with the historical footage added. Obviously took some time to do all that.Thank you.

All those memories you have are similar to mine. I've pretty much been in the SFV since coming out here and I still miss the small town feel of living up Bouquet Canyon, although that small town feel is now gone.
