nice video. My parents lived in Summerland twice, decades apart. <My uncle and aunt/cousins live there now for over 60 years, fanily in Penticton, etc etc. Summerland is a ''nice town'', but pretty boring, quiet, laid back. The town's business buildings are mostly 1 or 2 story box buildings with no real style or character. Heck , late 1980s or early 1990s, the town needed to spruce up and city council adopted a Bavarian Theme to the buildings, some street lighting, publice benches and sidewalk/hanging basket flowers, drinking fountains. But that theme has gotten stale and some other idea needs to be implemented to entice new businesses and tourists/customers. One can watch travel videos of other small towns in BC such as Revelstoke , Cranbrook, Nelson and such, much nicer downtowns streets with restored heritage buildings of all sorts ( Summerland really has just a handful of heritage buildings, mainly very Mehhhhh). The other issue is Summerland's mainly elderly population. No offence, but seniors do not go out and spend money as much as younger, working age youth and adults. So you do not see really any interesting stores or businesses, nothing much open past 5pm-530pm except a gas station, 7-11/macs, Nesters, liquor store or pizza shop that may be open till 7pm or 9pm. For a town of 13,000 population, it can be very very quiet and boring. There used to be a bowling alley, that closed at least 5 years ago. There is no movie theater, no mall, no bars (there is the pub, but no true bar/pool tables/late night fun), the clothing stores are small town sucky and many of the business may have seasonal hours as there just are no customers during winter months. Heck, even on hot sunny summer months, the downtown often looks like a ghost town. I probably sound like i hate Summerland...actually i like the town and may buy a house in the town next few years. But i would commute to Penticton for employment or shopping/doctor/dental/hospital/entertainment. The town just needs an injection of youth and youthful ideas, youthful businesses , entertainment , some interesting new architecture to give the place more balance and not so heavy on being a retirement mecca for the near dead .

Iv'e lived from the tip of Vancouver Island, to Cranbrook, and a number of southern BC towns in between. My worst memories are of the north island, and the miserable depressing weather. No amount of Money could ever make me live there again.

at 18:00 the store is still there with a Pizza place next to it and of course what town would be without a Nail Salon?? The bar next to the store closed, too many fights I'm told and the place has fallen into a state of disrepair. Legion has a dinner once a month or so. 1 gas station at the west end of town. This was a week ago when I left. It was dark when going to and from work so not much of an opportunity so see much. Was working on the taking down of the Mill. Areas abandoned and looked like the workers went for coffee and never returned. What a waste of tools still in pristine shape. You know this place goes back a while when you come across a full box of wood hammer handles..

Make sure humming bird feeders are taken down in the fall or the humming birds don't migrate south and stay and die in the winter colder temperatures even on the island

I love Vancouver Island, but the video could have been shortened, as long stretches were repeating the same scenery. Videos of about 12 min are ideal. Too remote for me, and I think there are prettier places within an hour of Victoria, I would much prefer.

Yah it's beautiful there but the trouble is there is so very few properties available the town needs to open up more undeveloped land for new homes .

Our family once lived in the beautiful town of Port Alice. I use to work at the local Chevron gas station. Live there from mid 1960 till 1980. We went back to visit couple years ago, had to stop in Port McNeill where we graduated. That where Larry Mitchell an ex Vancouver Canucks lived once. What a wonderful place my parent had found to raise us kids. Please go and put this place to visit into your bucket list. Have a great summer 2021. Bye for Burnaby
