Locked out of the bush - Podcast Ep.33
On the topic of innovation, I am left wondering why bike makers haven't done more with modular designs. How about a Big Frame bike with several price/performance levels, and a Small Frame with the same price/performance levels. Example, for me, I'm a decent rider, but I'm very short. I want a high-performance bike, but with a smaller frame/seat height. I would like a CRF450X level of performance in CRF250L size.
It some times takes 3 years to plan a trip. From idea to conclusion. You have been talking about the TAT, but seeing weather and understanding the terrain is important. Take your time. I want to go to England and meet up with so many motovlogers , I want to make it right the first time. Not making it just happen. Keep planning!
Glad you didn't call it shed happns , that is my pipe smoking part of my channel
I have a 2016 XT250, also a SuzukiC50 Cruiser and a Royal Enfield 500. I'm 6 foot and absolutely love the XT. It's a joy to ride off road even two up with my wife and fun on the roads, not so much on highways, freeways etc as it's truly buzzing at 100kmh, Leave that for the C50. Cannot go wrong with an XT
Great stuff again fellas. The XT250 is an awesome bike, superb suggestion for short beginners, or anyone wanting to ride a very user friendly bike. Does Kawasaki sell the KLX230 in Australia? They have an S version. S=Shorter seat height.
Ben Ferguson, hey mate I am also a bit short and struggle touching the ground properly. Just recently I sent my forks and shock away to Shock Treatment and had it lowered and resprung to suit my luggage and me. The bike is awesome now that the ground is a bit closer. The total cost was around $1200.
Klx230s has a low seat height.
The new Royal Enfield Gorilla looks like a bike you could have fun learning on, Farm bikes good chance you be over it in two weeks 😄
Shit week. Shit day. Great timing... needed this guys.
Close Johnny, I'm 49 ya bastard not over fkn 50 just yet 😝 But thanks Mark I'll take your estimation 😅 cheers
49 Years you old bugga! Well done....
I was wondering if you had the TW200 in Australia. You would it would be a natural there.
Damn that trivia question was too easy, i think you might get the next 2 as well...
Maybe Ben could go have a look at one of those Triumph 400 Scrambler 🤔
Go for the yamy Ag 200, tough as
Good stuff going back, simple is good, looking forward to biker bits shed talk 👍
Good idea moving it back and new name. Never try to chase Y algorithm. Just appeal to people. Most new riders are probably new migrants. The KLX230S is much better for a short guy, than the 250, to start with. You want to be able to touch the ground when learning and also having road use for adventuring. It's a pity Australia doesn't have the Yamaha TW200. It's a lot of fun having a low down bike as you'll be more connected to the environment, exploring and being able to get off quickly. The higher enduro bikes are targetted as fast fun, not all rounders. Many of the AG bikes you can't register due to VIN/Gov manufacturing assignment, like the Kawasaki Stockman isn't. Also many are designed not for road. Like the XR190CT people have had pistons melt on long trips. The good thing about AG bikes if you get all the racks.
50 cc bikes to ride they tax the frreedom fuck the government
'm not fussed what, where or how as long as i can still get to see you guy's doing your thing.
RocLin Moto Media on Y/tube have some videos of the T.A.A.T sections they have done.
Mark a tw 200 or a vam vam 125, watch lavi and mollie vlogg there on the vam vam 125s
8:00 mark tell Ben to get a monkey bike mate 👋🤠👍 KTM 390 OR CFMOTO 450 THERE LOW SEATED 👋🤠👍
Boys, love listening and whatever you call it, I'm there!!! Just gotta get you watching and savvy on MotoGP for future channel episode chats 🙏
Shed Talk, change of channel, OK bloody good if it works for you all....Can I fill in for Grumpy??? Hahaha.... David...Adelaide....the little guy....
Hey, I am 5'6' and No high heels....Hahahahahahaha
I live in Michigan in the United States. As of yesterday there have been 14 motorcycle fatalities in 14 days in the state.
Angus, I Googled Lidia Thorpe, and there was a picture of her sitting on a Harley.
Happy birthday, Mark!
Auto Insurance rates are climbing here in the States too. Dual sport bike insurance is still pretty reasonable though.
Harley now make in India a 440 single similar to a Royal Enfield.
I think Australia should get a dollar for every Subaru that was names the "Outback". For years I thought Subaru was Australian. 😂 I don't ever think I have seen a product on the shelf stating it was made in Australia. Wait, Foster's was the last time I had seen that.
Fyi, we do not have 500 cc Harleys, only sold outside of the US and all of them made in Thailand
My feeling about the large businesses taking on this woke industry standards, only makes sense if SHTF , large companies that have a high score in diversity, can get a loan to survive the recession with government will fund them the money with reasonable interest. I also think they are subsidized already to do it. As for Harley, they are making a cheap Harley in Thailand and looking at shipping more jobs there. I think that is the bigger point.
I feel like you guys went back to the roots of how you started with this pod cast. You were getting a little polished there, and I was losing interest. I think it's call grassroots and you nailed it today. I looked back and have watched all of the episodes and thank you for all the hours of entertainment!
First, thank you for going 90 min!
Mark I'd emagrate to Australia, buy you a few pints and burgers for putting great vlogg on you tube mate, oh and I'd buy the bloody door 👋🤠👍keep on keepin on mate. Hoo roo
Alastair has a point on the female demographics for women buying Harley’s. I’m one of Harley Davidsons motorcycle instructors in the U.S. We have seen an uptick in women seeking to ride but of the ones that buy and ride Harleys there is a higher percentage that would be termed homosexual. Others gravitate to lower displacement. The biggest obstacles to younger people buying Harleys is the price, even used ones are expensive. Another is use-case and size, Harley doesn’t have a lot of options, they have variations on a theme. Don’t get me wrong I love Harley’s but if they want to stay at the top they have to think differently, Their current strategy is to sell more expensive motorcycles to fewer people and that’s not sustainable.
Thanks for commenting on my question. Great podcast. Should have clarified. I come from an enduro background and always ridden tall bikes. You just get used to it. Only new to the ADV side as such. Just seems a lot of people feel they must be able to get both feet flat but I feel time on the bike is more important.
To the rider from Pismo Beach. I rode from Humboldt County to Morro Bay for 10 years. Great riding in SLO County. I've shortened my loop to Humboldt/Monterey these days but I miss that area, loved splitting time with MB. I'm shortish. 5'8" 30.5-31" inseam. Seat Concepts low seat makes a world of difference on my T7 and the Husky 501. The 501's light weight kinda negates some of the height issue as well. I have 2 Kawasakis, my T7, Husky 501, RE Bullet 500, and a 2017 H-D Ultra Classic. I would trade my Harley for an Indian or a Goldwing but I wouldn't get squat for the Ultra Classic. My dealership left in the middle of the night earlier this year. No heads up to a lot of the employees even. Luckily there is a great mechanic for them in town. He used to be the Head Mechanic for the dealership before they screwed him over a few years ago. My issue with H-D is the brainwashing they are making their employees go through and some of the organizations they are donating money to. It doesn't have anything to do with Who is riding the motorcycles, it's these companies trying to "Fundamentally Change America." If you remember where that quote came from. Where Harley screwed themselves along production lines is when they stopped the EVO Sportsters. I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but they are solid/simple bikes. I'll address the Japanese vs Harley cruiser thing. I had a couple Japanese cruisers, they didn't hold up to a lot of miles and the elements. Just the truth, all those light components were fail points. Chromed plastic is junk, along with plastic inside the engines. Now the Pan America was a disaster because of the dodgy electronics. The CEO and Board need to go. Cheers Fellas! Great episode again.
Greetings guys! I have enjoyed this Pod Cast Very informative and thought provoking, Hahaha Thanks for the shout out about me being short (5'6") and I do have to make some modifications to my adventure bikes to allow me to ride. I have been away on holiday in Bangkok. Since my return I have been quite sick and slowing recovering.... Special Thanks to you...hopefully I will get back on my bike and continue the Adventure....David...Adelaide....Triumph Scrambler 1200X ......
Hey guys, they do tours on all sorts of bikes here these days. Beta390 , KTM500, Honda crf450rl . Crf450rl is such a great bike it's almost the 🦄
Interesting to hear your views on riding sportsbikes haha, I'm 6'2 and I rode my R1 around australia(incluing tassie) in 2016 and it was fine. 20,000km in 31days... Also did a uluru trip on it too 7000km in 7 days... I also agree rego to the licence would be awesome for a person that owns a handful of vehicles (me haha). Cheers 4 sharing.
I see these CfMoto Mt450 frames are filling up with water, rust will be a problem.
Cheers for the shout out guys, I’ll send something special for you guys 👌🏼
Obviously you guys haven’t heard of Moto Odyssey Australia which runs tours in cape York on KTM 500
When we , my wife and I turned 40, or her 42, we both retired, that was 25 years ago, and we came back to the bush, bought a cheap home, did it up, then went traveling with our money, I waited 24 years to buy another bike a 411 Himalayan., we still have a bit of money left, shouldn't have to go on a pension. You guys covered a very good range of subjects tonight loved it, don't go the way of Harley Davison, on it's way down, hope your still here when I am 70, 5 years away.
Got to love the Himalayan
It seems to be always about what you could have.. it the reality is we do not utilize what we already have.. it's a paradoxical conundrum.. also a million dollars doesn't get very much anyway.. if I could have a million dollar I would spend it on more time and opportunity go do it all...
Good stuff
Boy's I gotta have a shit, so be back to watch you soon.
The thing that I liked the most and made a big difference for me was a sheepskin from a 3 yo sheep, as I have a himi, and that seat is fcuken uncomfortable
The best description of crashing (in relation to seatbelts, but applies to MC) was to think about the fastest human can do 25MPH (40 KMPH). Now, run as fast as you can into a brick wall. That's what an accident at 25 feels when you hit the car window, or the ground.
Hmmm talk about being soft, maybe you should buy a bmw and just do coffee , and ride home lol Come on lads! Harden up
Luckily you saved the day and repeated what they said.. 🥇
@@CHUNKYNUGGET666 Hahahahaha,,,,,,, thank you !
