KWGN Daybreak Promo July 2011
มุมมอง 65213 ปีที่แล้ว
KWGN used my tune as the bookends for this cute promo they produced in July leading up to the new look and theme song on 7/25. Congrats to producer Maia Brusseau for this fun spot and thanks to the gang at KWGN/KDVR for a fun promotion and contest!
KWGN Daybreak Song Contest
มุมมอง 75513 ปีที่แล้ว
KWGN had a contest to write a new Theme Song. I wrote and recorded something quickly at Steve Cooper's- www.scmpro.com I invited the just graduated and very talented Allison Smith to sing the female part. While we didn't win, it was a fun experience. We sent in two versions and they played the sparse one on the air- with just vox and bass. This video includes the promos, most of the four finali...
Tom Satriano- Free As a Bird (pre-Beatles version) cover 1995
มุมมอง 66213 ปีที่แล้ว
In November, 1995 I was able to record my own version of Free As A Bird before The Beatles version was released. I had John's demo as a guide, but I thought that Paul would add a musical piece to the song- making it a true Lennon-McCartney composition. Lennon's demo needed something- so I loved the idea of writing something before their version came out, so I wrote two McCartney-like sections a...
The Kinks perform 'Strangers' on Hollywood Blvd.- May 27, 2011

My pal Dave drove on Hollywood Blvd while 'The Stranger' by The Kinks played. Strangers on this road we are on. We are not two, we are one. Where are you going I don't mind I've killed my world and I've killed my time So where do I go what do I see I see many people coming after me So where are you going to I don't mind If I live too long I'm afraid I'll die So I will follow you wherever you go...
Nino Rota playing on Sunset Blvd- May 27, 2011
มุมมอง 20913 ปีที่แล้ว
While seeing Sunset Blvd for the first time since '87, my friend Dave's ITune shuffle came across a rare Nino Rota track and it seemed to fit the scene during the drive, so I rolled camera. The track is called The Awards, from the film Spirits of the Dead, released in 1968.

Glenn Tilbrook sings Tempted on Grand Piano
มุมมอง 55713 ปีที่แล้ว
Glenn sings one of his hits 'Tempted' live on a Steinway Grand Piano in Aspen, CO April 2, 2011 at the Wheeler Opera House. Glenn writes many tunes on piano but fans rarely get to hear him perform at the piano. This was a real treat. You don't see him until the very end- I didn't have a proper angle to capture him- sorry. This is mostly an audio delight. ;-}
Ray Davies interview and Kinks soundcheck- Denver 9-9-81 Part 2
มุมมอง 15K14 ปีที่แล้ว
Ray Davies of The Kinks was interviewed by my friend who was a producer at a local TV affiliate on 9/9/81 in Denver, CO at McNichols Arena. This is Part 2- mostly soundcheck. I messed up my last question- heck- we were both nervous- but I meant to say that many bands had pinched off The Kinks! They were the most copied and underrated band ever! After the interview the soundcheck begins. The pho...

Ray Davies of The Kinks was interviewed by my friend who was a producer at a local TV affiliate on 9/9/81 in Denver, CO at McNichols Arena. Kinks management was surprised Ray wanted to do an interview, as it wasn't his usual practice. I went along cos I was/am a big fan and got to ask a few questions. Ray was witty, informative and talked about current things, like the newly shipped Give the Pe...

Oh gosh look how young Ray was in this interview. Ray was 37 years old at the time. Today he is 80 years old. Ray wore that early 1980’s New Wave tie and sport jacket during this interview.
Super. From the super band that are the best ever far from the others.
Greatest band in music history.
🤩🤩🤩🍷🍷🍷✌️✌️✌️
Nah he’s wrong, he’s a great melody writer as well as a great lyric writer.
I’d have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Ray and Chrissie Hynde fought like cat and dog. Telling Dave to shurrup, gave me a glimpse into how loud Ray Davies can get
Thank You for the music The Kinks have given us.
Ray is my favorite song writer. The Kinks have some of the best songs and albums of all time. God Save the Kinks!
Colonel Tom?!😁
6:45 The One
Thank you Thank you! God Save the Kinks
I always like when the camera zooms in on Mick. Amazing drummer. Should be ranked alongside Charlie and Ringo.
Yep, he's just as good as those two but sadly overlooked.
Cool af 😎🖤
😎COOL😎
He is my teacher omg!
God, he's so beautiful.
E. L He certainly is and he had sex appeal too. He was funny when he yelled at Dave to shut up.
I was at that show with The Pretenders opening. I'm so glad I found this interview. Great questions!
Hey it's Harvey Keitel
Beautiful melodies performed with universal strength. Beautiful.
I was at that show, my first concert.
simply love him

This is Part 2- mostly soundcheck. I messed up my last question- heck- we were both nervous- but I meant to say that many bands had pinched off The Kinks! They were the most copied and underrated band ever! After the interview the soundcheck begins. The photog gets on stage and gets some intimate close-ups of the band. During Lola, the song goes until the audience sing-along bit, at which time I couldn't resist singing! 'Twas a great little moment in my life and it's on tape! I was working for Pickwick Records at the time- hence the shirt and tie. ;-] As we were leaving I told Ray, "I'll see YOU tonight but I'll just be A Face In the Crowd." Bless Ray and The Kinks. An absolute treasure for almost 50 years! Category Music Licence Standard TH-cam Licence MERRY CHRISTMAS DEC 22,2014

A fun and striking metaphor he uses at the end, one you may expect from somebody like him.
I as searching for a different Ray Davies interview and I came across this for the first time! Just wonderful, thanks for posting!
that big room reverb sounds great, exciting.
SHUT UP DAVE!!!!
HAHA that was so epic. He actually screamed "shut up Dave!"
My husband and I went to this concert on one of our first dates. Maybe this event has a wee bit to do with the fact that we married and are still together after all this time. Hmmm?
and you can see all the stars as you walk down hollywood boulevard.....
The term 'National Treasure' is used so freely these days that it's lost it's impact, but if one writer is truly a national treasure it's Ray Davies; his songs exude Britishness.
Thanks DW. I generally wrote this as if I was Paul, and he's writing to John and is basically jealous that John's the bird on wing, he's free, while the rest of us languish. ;-} I always wondered if Paul considered, or inquired about writing another section to this and if perhaps he couldn't get Yoko's permission?
Overall I like this a lot. However, there are some bits lyrically I am not keen on. 'Who's a bird on wing' (why 'who?') ... and I'm not sure about the drinking from the fountain bit.... but the McCartney-esque sections ('Whatever happened to that thing we started?') are a really nice augmentation to the song (more interest as in different sections in 'A Day In The Life'). I also love this sentiment - 'What if I could sing it with you? If I could fly with you too.' (Paul to John). Good work!
Great job! And I love the interview at the end!
Yes. And think about his having a tie from China! In '81 the only thing from China was silk and china!
A second-hand shirt from Seattle! He was Grunge before it existed!
As well as Schoolboys un Disgrace had already.
Thanks so much- it was a fun project.
OMG.. THANKS FOR THIS POST.. IT WAS AMAZING.. BRILLIANT INTERVIEW FROM ONE OF THE GREATEST MINDS, SONGWRITERS OF OUR TIME.. RAY DAVIES.. I LOVE RAY AND THE KINKS AND HAVE HAD THE HONOR TO MEET HIM TWO TIMES.. ONCE IN 69 AND THE OTHER IN HIS SOLO CARREER IN 96 OR SO.. HE IS WAS SO BRITISH AND CHARMING AND SWEET
