Eit barn er født i Betlehem,
No frydar seg Jerusalem.
Halleluja! Halleluja!
Her ligg han I eit krubberom,
Men rår med evig herredom.
Halleluja! Halleluja!
Men okse der og asen stod,
Og såg den Gud og Herre god.
Halleluja! Halleluja!
Tre kongar kom frå Austerland,
Gull, røykjels, myrra gav dei han.
Halleluja! Halleluja!
Ein gong vi vert vår Herre lik.
Han leier oss til himmelrik.
Halleluja! Halleluja!
Lov takk og pris I æva all,
Tre einig Gud det vera skal.
Halleluja! Halleluja!
Translation:
A child is born in Bethlehem.
Now joy reigns in Jerusalem.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Laid in a lowly manger,
He rules with eternal lordship.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
An ox and ass beside him stood,
And saw that God and gentle Lord.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Three kings came out of Eastern lands
To give Him incense, gold and myrrh.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Once we shall be like our Lord,
He leads us into paradise.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Eternal praise and gratitude,
Unto the Holy One in Three.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Glory to God. Wow, this song is so amazing and beautifully rendered.
Beautiful ❤
This is beautiful. Listening all the way from Zimbabwe. Would be happy to connect our music worlds.
God bless Mrs. Ogigirigi
My choir learnt this song today, and I had to come find it because of how the hymn is absolutely beautiful. Your rendition captures the beautiful melody. Especially tenor.
Beautiful voices for a beautiful song

Beautiful to watch and listen to fifty years on from my Peterhouse graduation year!
So beautifully sung and filmed! ⭐ Such heartwarming memories of my days at Peterhouse. The chapel was often a chosen place of solace during some of my most challenging times. 🙏🤍
This brings back so many happy memories of my days at Peterhouse. Merry Christmas to one and to all at my old Alma mater.
Beautiful and sublime!
Beautifully conducted Simon. You inspired so many students of Peterhouse and Caitlin is now a member of the New Cambridge Singers.

This is beautiful and very original - I have never heard anything like it. And yes, the accordion is stunning.
Thank you for listening!
I used to walk along that path in the first clip, from the William Stone Building to have my breakfast in Hall. Very happy memories.
I use my accordion for a drone all the time!
Stunning adaptation of original version interweaving chant! And the accordion addition is stunning! Bravo all!!

A Beautiful Voice 😇
Lovely. Broughtback memories of hearing it from OUTSIDE an Anglican Church in Singapore 1963.gracjously sung and beautiful.
Listen to the lyrics. Then, Google who wrote them. Then, Google Orthodox Christianity. Just a thought...
Conducting this on Saturday for Christmas Eve service. Beautiful piece.
Hope it goes well! Have a Happy Christmas!
Thank you for sharing this breathtakingly beautiful and haunting piece. A huge well done to all concerned not least Simon! Certainly the chapel choir has come on in leaps and bounds since the late 1980s when I was in it - we'd never have been able to sing anything at this level!
Thank you!
My absolute favourite carol. I sang it in an acapella choir. This carol is ancient (at least 400 years old) and hauntingly beautiful. Singing it was an etheral experience.
Quite right. I too sing it in an acapella choir and love it - though disappointed that my fellow choristers seem not to appreciate fully the intricacy of the voices beginning about 2:00. Ear candy indeed!
That was simply stunning - must admit we weren't quite as good as that in 1964! Happy Christmas😊
Thank you!
I matriculated 2001 at Peterhouse (this isn't my real name) and I'm singing this tomorrow night... In Norwegian. Help.
Good luck! "Det hev ei rose sprunge ut av ei rot så grann..."! We've another video to put up soon from the same recording session of us singing in Swedish -- so keep an eye out for that one too! Happy Christmas!
Beautiful singing, thank you and Happy Christmas to all Karen
Thank you! Happy Christmas!
Exquisite.
Great and full of wonder when hearing this hymn. One of my favourite christmas hymn. The harmony for this hymn is greatly been showed and sung beautifully by this choirs. May the blessings of God be upon all of us in this coming season of Christmas
