    Dude appreciate your thoughts. I own a gh6 & g9ii. I do think the gh6 has a more “cinematic” image but I’ve noticed there is a lot of color noise. Idk if that’s just my gh6 or if it’s in general. The g9ii having an iso of 500 is easier to use for me when outdoors. I won’t say g9ii having pdaf is the most important feature to me. I still feel like I use MF & AF about 50/50 of the time. I will say in photo the af comes in handy. I was on board with ditching my gh6 and preordered the gh7 to match my g9ii but now I’m not sure if I should buy another camera lol I have an s1h/bs1h/eva1/s1/gh6/g9ii Thinking of keeping my s1h & bs1h and selling my Eva, s1 & gh6 to fund the gh7. Thoughts?

      I don't think either of them has an OLPF, but the GH6 does somewhat give that look in comparison. That’s only from what we’re seeing though, so could be different once it’s in our hands.

    Great comments. Gerald undone also said after not being invited to japan he wanted to make a video trashing panasonic in some way. Guy has zero credibility. Another user who was pro-gh6 suddenly started trashing it about 2 weeks ago (now we find out he had a gh7 in his hands). Hopefully firmware support for gh6 adds some features.

    As a GH6 user, and photographer primarily who does some videography, my immediate reaction to the GH7 was a question: What is the image quality like? After discovering that it was the G9II’s sensor, I felt an instant disconnect on Panasonic’s part. I don’t favor the G9II’s image quality for the same reasons you share here. The new features highlighted for the GH7’s release left me feeling hollow. It seems now apparent to me that the heightened fixations on PDAF were more of a cultural pressure, a trending mob-like criticism that was more interesting to play into than the GH6 itself, and a missing component of the GH6 that should have been incorporated from the initial release; this controversy clouded any accuracy on assessment of the camera and its capabilities. Panasonic has been veering into some kind of attempt into reflecting on selective criticisms of their camera releases and the following reception. I don’t believe they know entirely what to do or how to go about doing it in appealing to their targeted demographic. I am pleased with my choice in the GH6, and I have no interest in the GH7.

    “…like it was filmed in an old barn, while discussing advanced audio capabilities” Brilliant 😂 I’m also noticing the not so smooth autofocus. This could just be due to speed settings. But looking at the performance of cameras with pdaf from other brands, it almost seems like it’s a property inherent to pdaf. Thanks for sharing your take on the GH7. Very valuable

  • @LukeBrownFigmentoFilms
    @LukeBrownFigmentoFilms หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey, great take. Panasonic have a history of pretty awesome trade in deals, so fingers crossed. I can definitely see the discontinuation of the GH6 sucking if you're invested. However, I feel the GH6 failings in terms of sales were a reflection of Panasonics stubborn refusal to adopt PDAF. It was a necessary failure in order for Panasonic to listen, hence the relatively quick turnaround time between models. There is always an anxiety that MFT is on its last leg's, i don't like that feeling, but I do really want the GH7 so I hope it revitalises market demand 🤞

  • @angeloplayforone
    @angeloplayforone หลายเดือนก่อน

    You spoke of something that nobody does discus is this discontinuation of the GH6. You spoke from the point of someone who brought the camera and that concerns will be created by those who brought it. I dont know that is the main issue here. Many times manufacturers intrroduce stop gaps in their lines. This products has not long production life. An example was the Ipad 3 from Apple. Many who were technically aware, knew that the processor used whas not the one Apple want. But they needed to inroduce a product that meet the release schedules, so not loosing marketshare. At that time the website AnandTech said that the processor in that Ipad 3 was a new design produced on the wrong node, Hence that Ipad becaome very hot. Within a year Apple introduce an new Ipad 4 with the same processor but manafacturer on a smaller node. AnandTech correctly pointed months before that the Ipad 3 looks like a stopgap due that Apple has problem getting the higher yields needed for the new processors. GH6 was introduced around 5 years later then GH5, which was to late as many lost confidence in the m43 line. This pushed a lot of pressure on Panasonic to release a cameras. The camera missed the most important feature that anyone wanted, PDAF. Besides this the camera had a new gain functionality that caused streaking. After the G9II was introduced and confirm that the dail gain functionality has been extended and streaking issues was solved, I know Lumix will introduced a new GH7 with PDAF, dual gain from ISO 100 up and also high speed shooting and bigger buffer. Simply GH6 was a stop gap that also did not selll wel as his price dropped from €2200 till €1600. Never ever I have seen such drop in price within one and a half year after introduction. This pointed that the camera was not selling well due the missing of PDAF. Nobody was buying it. The most important issue is that Lumix is killing a €1600 camera and push a new one with PDAF back to €2200. But now they have G9II at €1800 and €GH7 at €2200, leaving the pricespace of €1000 till €1799, completly empty without any, If this is the case then m43 is dead as Gerald Undone said. There is no any camera for letting new young people buying into the m43 system. They S5 is 3 years old and cost €1300 so more cheaper for the person who does not have anything and want to buy their first camera. The above action of Panasonic proves that what Gerald Undone said, m43 is dead to me. Panasonic knows that and only worries that the actual m43 owners, who have lot of lenses, and wants to upgrade will buy a m43 camera. There is no growing path more for m43. This is the actual concern. Sony never kills their old cameras like a7II and a7III and selling them at lower price to let new user entering their E-mount. Lumix does this only with the L-mount and not m43. That is the biggest concern that need to be talked. This dead house consctruction for m43.

      You made some good points, but remember, Panasonic doesn't have a massive share of the market and merely wasted time with the GH6 release. Their biggest problem was not focusing on their core user base. They initially thought that MFT had to suffer for the S cameras to succeed, and why do they have both the S5ii and the S5iix? The G9ii and S5ii should be their hybrid cameras for MFT and FF, the SH and GH for video, and the SR for high-end photography, and they should have thrown everything PLUS the kitchen sink at them! The S9 should have been the MFT rangefinder-style camera that the photography community has been requesting for years, rather than the S9 that didn't align with their needs. Listening to the user base is key to successful product development! Panasonic could have been more strategic in their product releases. The GH7 we're now getting, if released as the GH6, would have sold exceptionally well. Now, owners of the GH6 like myself will wait for Black Friday sales, instead of preordering as usual, in anticipation of the camera's price drop. They've assumed that using TH-camrs was enough to sell their cameras. Also, how can MFT be considered dead with over 80 lenses available for the format?

    • @angeloplayforone
      @angeloplayforone หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pragmaticfilmmakingthe biggest problem from Panasonic was their slow pace embracing Phase Detect Auto Focus in video. Due to this many Content Creators who used their GH line since GH4 moved to Sony for better PDAF. What is over at Lumix is those not needing AF. This cámara comes 4 years to late. Regarding the S1 and S1R, I think both sold poorly.

    For me the GH6 was rushed. There was such a demand for it that Lumix rushed it. It should have came out last year with PDAF. Lumix tried to make it better by adding a different screen and a new memory card but it just didn't feel right. I was happy when it came out as i wanted a GH5 , so it meant that their would be a massive price drop when the GH6 came out. The GH7 is will be what the GH6 should have been. What I'm noticing is that Lumix has just throwing out cameras now. This will please the new gear junkies but in the long run it will just be camera after camera. The new cameras will lose there magic after a few months.

    • @pragmaticfilmmaking
      @pragmaticfilmmaking หลายเดือนก่อน

      The GH6 is a significant upgrade over the GH5, but it requires a more serious workflow, as you need to shoot with DR boost to maximize the camera's potential. Unlike the GH5, where I rarely used the log profile despite paying for the upgrade. With the GH6, it's essential to shoot with DR boost for optimal results. They could have done much more with that camera, but because it didn't sell, they've decided to abandon it altogether, which isn't a good look.

The waveforms, Vectorscops all built in the camera so the user can get everything expose right when shooting and being behind the camera. Those who want to learn how to use MF. Hi Thx for the reflexion. Personally I am still happy with older last gen Bodies P4K,GH5s image specially GH5s prores RAW converted to CDNG. S5 org has as well a nice image which is better for certain Jobs. But about IQ if you record prores RAW, or BRAW with any camera it is already at very high level...of IQ after composition,light motion etc it makes it special but IQ is +- comparable for most in 24,24,30 fps and native base ISO, above it you can have variation in quality for sure...and in High ISO as well...

      What I’m saying is the criticisms levelled at previous MFT models appear to be all forgotten with the announcement and release of the Blackmagic full frame cameras.

  •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    An interesting thought provoking speech, thanks! Regarding micro four-thirds, I think part of it is just the movement of technology, and Sony are starting to push way ahead of everyone else, which changes the landscape a lot... The goal was always full frame for most people, but M4/3 was smaller and cheaper, I used a GH5 for years, though often with a speed booster to be honest to make it APSC. But now, if you look at just how small Sony are able to make a full frame camera, an example being the ZV-E1, that really damages the main legacy argument in favour of M4/3: the small size. The ZV-E1 is smaller than the GH6 and weighs nearly half as much and is far better in low light, though it's very much video focussed. If you go with Sony APSC, the A6700 is also smaller and lighter, plus adds in the photo features missing from the ZV-E1. It also allows you to digitally zoom in on the scroll wheel and get an even-smaller-than-micro-four-thirds crop, getting equivalent reach and DOF for telephoto shots. The E-mount lens selection is unrivalled TBH. As a user of the S1H and S5 ii now, as well as an A6700 for gimbal and doc use, I can't see a reason to go back to such a tiny sensor in a big body. If the Panasonic S1H ii inherits a nice autofocus and loses the terrible HDMI delay, it'll be an endgame camera for me as it's almost perfect for most jobs. But I always keep a Sony around for the tiny size as it does that quite uniquely! In short I remember micro four-thirds fondly, and loved my time with it, but do sadly see it as somewhat anachronistic...

      Personally I don’t see where any format has massively outperformed MFT from an image quality or technological stand point, and black magic’s full frame cameras have similar dynamic range, worse low light, and no autofocus. All the things that the industry said was wrong with the MFT system. The GH5s/BGH1 have excellent low light performance, and none of the MFT cameras has an overheating problem like the ZV, and there are over 80 lenses for the MFT system! I’m not saying the ZV or BM cameras are bad, but that MFT cameras were obviously never as bad as everyone made them out to be?

    •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pragmaticfilmmaking Personally I've never been attracted to any Blackmagic camera as they always had various compromises and issues. When it comes to Panasonic for example, the S range beats the GH range by a couple of stops of dynamic range, by a long way in low-light, stabilisation... the list goes on... and the GH and G are not even that small, all their M4/3 camera are pretty big. So I think the gradual demise of M4/3 is partly cos they just don't stand out a lot any more in a crowded market. That said, rumours are a Panasonic release is imminent, and II bet you it's a M4/3 cam, so maybe they'll make one that beats or matches the S series in spec! Still, when it comes to low light and DR and so on, you're dealing with physics. A larger sensor area helps a lot...

      That's part of the point. When you look beyond the hype, a full-frame camera has the same dynamic range but falls behind in many ways, including low-light performance, compared to an MFT camera, and I can only compare it with what I use.

I own a Lumix S5IIX and a Red Komodo. Why isn't AVC Intra 444 in the S5 & S1 series of cameras? If Panasonic made a EVA2 with the S5 sensor, internal ND's, Leica L mount, that used the AVC Intra 444 12 bit codec recording open gate 6k, they wouldn't be able to keep them in stock. I know I would own one. What is going on with Panasonic? Is Panasonic owed by Blackmagic, Apple, Red, etc. etc.?

    (0:54) A versatile companion… It would easily suffice for primary duty as an (A) CAM for professional projects… (1:13) They have not abandoned Contrast Detection, as the Lumix G9II still has 315 CDAF points, in addition to 779 PDAF points, which would imply that it has 1094 Total AF Points, and 41 more than the OM-1… 🤔
