I am a bit confused, the cards look like something for children but the messages seem aimed at parents. I used to drive from Memphis TN to Minnesota and on one trip back to MN I was stuck in a bad storm. I actually had to call my wife in MN to ask her to look at the radar map for me. This was in 2007 or 2008 when smart phones were just coming out. So, it is useful to have some kind of computer if you are away from home.
yes lots of people don’t Iike the cards because it feels like they weaponize the children against the parents
@@friedavizelclips for non religious reasons I worry about children using smartphones, but these cards for me miss the point.
I loved this, your personal anecdotes are so interesting. I wish i grew up in a community and close family. Please give us a tour.
What a fascinating case study. I'm off to get the book!
Religion has caused far more evil and death than phones have
Sad part Lots of thoes are too true

Hey Frieda, beautiful video as always; a major theme in these cards is the 'neglectful' parent, that just shows me where Hasidic priorities are, family!
thank you so much for the gift!!!
No doubt people can get carried away with a smart phone, yet it definitely has a purpose and can be very useful. The key is to control the phone and not let it control you.
I agree with the sentiment, but wouldn’t these be more useful being directed at the parents? 😉
I look at my kids and put my phone down. You don’t think the phones consume us but one day my two youngest said mom “look at our eyes.” I put my phone down immediately and gave them my full attention. I even remind my Husband he’s home and not at work on his phone. Growing up we didn’t have phones, tablets ect. We had fun.
No way! Never buy this cards. It’s very addictive! Your kids will collect them and asking about new pack all the time. If they will lost just one, you will buy it again and again for finding out this one. Another time they will compare their cards with collection of their friends. And you will going again to the Eichlers shop. Do not repeat my mistake. Don’t starting this addictive way 😆😆
Very useful flash cards. Amazing, where can we get them?
Looks like they captured the state of the world pretty well to me!
Very intersting. Also, you have a gorgeous cat!
I see this neglect everyday all over our neighborhood, quite sad Children coming out from school and Mom or Dad or sitter gives a quick half smile then looks at the phone for the two blocks I am walking next to the person. I often pick my little grandaughter up from Bas Rivkah and it literally turns my stomach. I am serious. Parents please talk to your child after school. How was your day? Tell me one thing that made you happy today Oh look at the new construction. The phone is good for many things but don't let it take over your life. I can go on and on. I love these cards Now I am giving a thumbs up to all you smart caring parents who don't do this❤
Love this. Our weekly chassidic publication (Heimisher News Flash) includes these senarios in every edition. PS More cat in videos. 🐾
most of that is true unfortunately.
I love this format! I’m always looking for an interesting book too. I’ll be picking this one up. I’m an avid cyclist and can’t wait to hear how this is playing out in Brooklyn. Thanks!
you and me both, cycling is such a joy!
The smart cards are saying don't use the phone for neglect the internet can be a good place to internet can be a bad place I think it's how we as individuals choose to use it and as we know the more you tell someone don't do it they're going to do it I remember when the Nintendo games came out my children are now in their 40s and I remember I got them one they were just young and we live in the mountains of Pennsylvania and the only time they was allowed to play it if it was too bitterly cold in the winter to go outside and I never given so much time they can play it and then after that they had to leave her alone it was not played in the summertime that was time to get out and ride your bike roller skate whatever what I'm saying is it is up to the parent and the person on how to use technology
I wish they had these in English… Love… Dad names baby Trump Mom puts ketchup on child’s head Rabbi speaking to the lamp
Haven’t seen those in a while. Not so popular with the boys these days
In the secular world aren't we now over distracted by our phones, in the summer we were swimming in a mountain pool in Wales, UK, a mum and grandparent sat on their phones while letting their 5/6 Yr old child was left to paddle on his own, lucky we were watching as he started to get out of his depth,my daughter who is also a primary teacher thoroughly enjoyed telling them off, they were very sheepish and moved down stream.
I benefit from using my phone, but the sp can be problematic.
Very interesting!
I went to the Jewish neighbourhood last week and I estimate at about 40% the people walking using their smartphones. I was stunned! Totally didn't expect that.
i think strictly speaking they are allowed but they need to be filtered and approved by rabbinical authorities or they choose to filter them, either that or its a case of what you do or supposed to are to different matters
If they were speaking on them those may be so-called kosher phones without internet capability.
@@dsquared1950 the men I saw were looking at them, maybe reading. Did not see one woman using one though.
@ Interesting.
A Jewish neighborhood or an ultra orthodox neighborhood? They are two really different things. All modern Orthodox Jews use phones and interact with the modern world.
It almost feels like a missed opportunity by not naming them "chokmah" cards.
Good one lol

My following comments are only as far as I am familiar with Torah and halachic concepts as they pertain to bicycle riding and ball playing. Please be aware that for some, a few of the comments that follow may be explicit and even offensive. The prohibition pertaining to the riding of a bicycle found in some more conservative, Orthodox communities is based upon several fundamental ideas which pertain to not following in the practices of the idol worshippers. That like is explained in Sifri, this idiomatic expression is referring primarily to indulging in prohibited, potentially sexually stimulating and erotic behavior. In Sifri, it explains that this is also associated with activities which potentially lead to male homosexual practices, which are also prohibited. The issue relates to the possibility of sexual arousal through normal operation of a bicycle, both of the heterosexual and homosexual varieties. Additionally, in the case of young women and girls prior to marriage, there is caution about potentially causing physical injury which could lead to questions about the modest behavior of girls prior to marriage. Meaning damaging signs of virginity. On the subject of ball playing and whether this is prohibited, this is found in the Talmud where the practice by Jewish boys was considered to be a behavior practiced by a famous apostate when he was an adolescent. This behavior led to frivolity which led to his ultimate apostasy. This famous story was based upon an episode involving Rabbi Akiva and his disapproval of boys playing ball near the Temple Mount.
“potentially sexually stimulating”? As a secular person with a very open mind to sexuality…I’m always amazed by what religious people believe is sexual. They seem to have a better imagination than those of us who explore our sexuality without shame.
@ The burden of this facet of the Yetzer HaRa varies greatly from one individual to the next. You should consider it a blessing that to you, this thought seems astonishing. It indicates that you are of a more refined and delicate character. But Torah in general, and particularly halachic material is trying to establish domains of possibility that encompass the whole of human nature.
I have been cycling eversince six years old. My bike is mostly nowadays an aid for carring heavy things from shop...also it is for other kind of use as moving because I've got troubles with my bones and also different kind of aches in my feet.
I love this. Your voice is perfect for it.. please do more
Muslims don't like dogs either. Dog is God spelled backwards .
Portland, Oregon is a big bike city. Bike lanes everywhere..
Full disclosure - I am not a NYC resident but do visit several times a year and I HATE all the bike lanes - why you ask am I so closed minded . Well, because I do NOT want to get run over by someone riding a bike. The bikers consistently DO NOT observe the traffic lights , etc , the direction of the flow of the traffic , and ride like a bat out of hell. There are bike lanes where it is very unsafe and should never have a bike lane. I constantly hear about the safety of the bikers ; and no I am not advocating that drivers of cars run over bikers to get rid of them, but how many pedestrians are injured by bikers. I personally know of a couple of people killed because they were hit by someone riding a bike. There is little to no enforcement of traffic rules on bikers ( practically speaking no way of doing it,) In NYC a car stops for a pedestrian in time for a biker to run over him or her. And now with electric bikes it is even more dangerous. ( I have heard electric bikes are not allowed , but allowed or not, they are definitely being ridden. ) Bikers do create more congestion in busy city streets and especially in neighborhoods with a large number of children it is not safe having bike lanes all over the place. In recent years I have seen a drastic increase in bike lanes in ridiculous areas. I suppose this was in response to Deblasio liking to ride his tricycle, I mean bicycle. Yes, I am offended by the prospect of being mushed like a bug by some wild assed bike rider and what they are wearing makes little difference if they are running over me!
I’m a cyclist and hope that bikes will join Ortho and others in a common endeavor.
@@irosenth100 all I ask is don’t run over me please , and observe traffic lights , etc. I suspect it is like a lot of things 80% of the problem is caused by less than 20% of the riders. Take care and Stay safe when cycling 😊
Toronto and Brampton Ontario both suffer from horrific traffic congestion. Civic leaders, rather than invest in infrastructure have chosen instead to plow recklessly forward by appropriating much needed and very necessary traffic lanes that were already in very heavy use in favor of broad expanses of wide open and largely unused bike lanes. We have lived in Toronto and still regularly commute from the Bramalea area of Brampton where we now live. Former Toronto mayors going back to the time of Barbara Hall and bringing us to current Mayor Olivia Chow worshipped and continue to idolize the vision of Jane Jacobs and her vision of a "Livable City". I would have to dip into some serious lashon hara to characterize Rob Ford's time in Mayoral office but Toronto did have a brief respite from the relentless idolatry of the Jacobs visionaries during Mayor Ford's administration. Brampton is tiresome to the 'nth degree but Toronto is downright hair raising. A mishmash of what one can only hope were good intentions are so dangerously executed they result in all too regular traffic fatalities. What is so enraging about Brampton is that it was already very bicycle and pedestrian friendly with a its' paved Path system winding throughout the green spaces and parkland of the entire city. There is almost no need for bicycles on roadways because they only need to come out of the Path to cross roads where they are assisted by traffic signals and crosswalks. Brampton and Toronto have both gotten so ridiculous that a glimmer of hope in the form of the Provincial Government under the leadership of Rob Ford's older brother Premier Doug Ford has passed legislation requiring cities to provide proof of the current bicycle lanes necessity and efficacy to improvement in the flow of traffic. Cities are also required to seek and receive Provincial approval before implementing any further or additional bicycle lanes where traffic lanes currently flow. I am no fan of Doug Ford or his leadership but with this one move he may have redeemed himself just a little bit..
A revealing read on the bike lanes in Williamsburg, Bklyn, enhanced by a running insightful commentary by Frieda Vizel. Great idea! Gut geleyent. Shkoyakh!
listening while working today - sort of odd that cycling has been rejected by an ultra orthodox community .... its an older form of transformation and very affordable. lots of areas in cities across the US and Canada are facing backlash from additions of bike lanes and additional public transit access. i think the backlash of bike lanes by the Hasidim community is received with less sympathy because they are trying to convince their dislike is based on their religious affiliation. will be reading this book soon
Tucson is a "Bike friendly" city and it has caused congestion and difficult going for emergency vehicles. Very nice reading😊
