You are correct. The YAKIMA does have a sleeker clean look, but when looking at the locking mechanism both the front and rear are facing the same direction and can lose the ability to anchor the load in an abrupt stop or unwanted impact. The THULE locking mechanism clamps in from both sides, giving both the front and rear the ability to anchor a load in a more robust manner. The THULE mechanism gives me a sense of security and stability, knowing that in an unwanted quick maneuvering event it’s not going anywhere. This is just my observation as I am still shopping around. My clamshell RTT opens in 5 seconds or less, fully setup with all flaps open less than 1 minute, insanely comfortable, no cover to mess with, and it was $1235 canuck bucks all in, shipped to my door. I absolutely love it, and I've camped out in all kinds of weather, including -15 to -20c on the shore of a frozen lake. Game changer.

Anyrhingmade out of canvas needs to be waterproofed, doing it once isnt good advixe you shoukd do tis 3 or 4 times wet let it dry then repeat

The Thule's look sleek and nice, but they have the sloping front end that starts pretty far back which would limit the size of cargo you are able to get in there in regards to height.

I hear the quality of these boxes has gone way down hill the last 20 years because they are all made cheaply and thinly in Asia. While the prices have gone way up! I am trying to find an old one made in the USA or the much stronger fiberglass boxes. Also, aren’t the rear loading ones more safe against wind blowouts since the hinge is on the front and lock on the rear🤔

The most surprising thing about this video, is that you think all apartments and malls use parking garages rather than parking lots. I guess you have only ever lived in very densely populated areas? I grew up in a suburb of NYC, and have lived in the Boston area suburbs for almost 50 years. Except in the city proper, most of the apartments and malls I've frequented, had parking lots with clearance the height of electrical wires on telephone poles. Admittedly, work and play both took me into the city proper, where parking garages without infinite clearance, are a thing.

Trade that FJ in for a truck and put it over the bed. It'd solve a lot of your issues. I have a cheap tp style hot tent from Amazon to use to mark my site. Truck bed = massive storage.

Exactly! All of these reason are why I got rid of my RTT. It's just me, so I changed the inside around and now I sleep in the vehicle.

This affirms my decision to get a simple pop up.
