Star Wars: Attack of the Clones - Across the StarsâReorchestration & MIDI Mockup
An all-by-ear transcription, reorchestration and MIDI mockup of a short section from Across the Stars, one of the key themes featured in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (as well as it's sequel). It was originally composed by the legendary John Williams, and therefore all rights go to him, Lucasfilm and to Disney.
As it's the Maestro's 90th Birthday (although I slightly missed the mark by a day) I decided to have a go at transcribing this simply wonderful piece. It's probably my absolute favourite composition of his (with A Window to the Past definitely in close second) and I aimed, above all, to get as much expression out of my virtual instruments as possible and really, really dive deep into the emotion of this theme. I think it's definitely the most realistic sounding MIDI mockup I've ever made and under the hood you'd be able to see why - breath control, vibrato and expression for each instrument as well as experimentation with sound source placement according to the original recording layout AND I even went as far as to find out the approximate measurements of Abbey Road Studio 1 to simulate an approximate reverb and additionally dial in room tone. I'd loved to have done the entire piece, but I think my brain (not to mention my very sickly iMac) would have imploded, and I was desperately trying to get it done in time as well.

Its a tradition of mine that very time before i go to camp just a few hours before i leave i play this
Wait did fallout 3-4 copy the start of the final hours theme?
can confirm most of this game's soundtrack are in that "any few seconds are instantly recognizable" part of my memory
This shit was way too dark to be a children's game. Just look at how impactful this game was to all of us, the way it still affects us as grown adults.
whats that gong instrument that play with a high note?
Hey there, great question! If you mean the one at roughly 0:22 - that's just a tubular bell hit that's been electronically edited so that the initial attack has a slower onset, but if you mean the lower secondary one around 0:24 or 0:26 (which is the same one used in the original track), I'm unfortunately not sure! I've been on a bit of a quest to find out exactly what sample was used - definitely an idiophone of some type, probably a suspended tuned gong, perhaps maybe an effected Javanese kenong or bonang... The closest lead I have is a Java Gong sample from Omnisphere (which was used heavily throughout the Skyward Sword Soundtrack) Java Gong - B2-G3, which was originally from Spectrasonic's "Heart of Asia" library. It definitely sounds close but I think it was layered in with other samples and processed. Hope that helps!
@@MatthewNewsomeComposer Oh wowww, its a very nifty sound, makes the song sound super super industrial and legendary!!
This ist one of the best things ive heard in my entire life
The beginning sounds like the first 10 seconds of "the lonely" by Christina Perri.
Just discovered this, this is absolutely fantastic. Well done you!
what a ducking masterpiece
Wow. This is by FAR the most perfect version of the Final Hours I ever heard. The bells starting at 2:35, the music going crescendo... And then, 4:20 with Skull Kid laughing, and the clock in sync with the music, the choir raising... PERFECTION!
Agreed man. It was hard to find the perfect mix.
This song illustrates but four words: Try as you might.
Almost exactly 6 minutes long, how fitting
lets go!, what a beatiful instrumental <3
2:50
Beautiful
can i have permision to use
Sure thing!
if this aint playin at my funeral then i aint dyin ðŊ
please tell me this on spotify
Not at the minute but hopefully very soon! Currently processing through my distributor
id like to hear this from a huge symphony
The transition on the 3rd bell is just absolutely amazing and beautiful.
If you haven't acquired all the masks, time to reset the clock. If you did almost all of that, have Chateau Romani Milk in your inventory since the Night of the First Day, and have unfinished business in Clock Town after stealing Kafei's Mask from Sakon, warp to Clock Town, haul ass to the places needed to complete the Anju and Kafei sidequest, then prepare to save the world. _This is do or die to prevent the apocalypse._
Took the best overworld theme and somehow made it infinitely better. I love it!
Absolutely one of the best Gerudo Valley remixes I think I've ever heard. This deserves so much more recognition than it gets. I cannot wait to use this as the theme for a city in my D&D campaign!
Why isn't this on your Spotify?
Hey! That's a really good question - unfortunately the company handling my music distrubution (which was particularly effective with handling cover song licensing) has been hit by a bunch of different issues and consequently, this track and a bunch of other covers and original music have been stuck in distribution hell for a while now. Have been working to try and get it all resolved, but sadly only time will tell if it ever does.
@@MatthewNewsomeComposer There's no way you can get it up yourself? This is very well done.
@@Typhoon792 Thanks so much - would if I could, genuinely... it'd make things a lot easier! But the way the copyright system works with cover songs (and especially with how little Nintendo ever officially releases soundtracks) means you have to sort out the rights distribution, so fingers crossed it'll all be solved soon!
@@MatthewNewsomeComposer I see, yeah... They really ought to be pressed. There's covers of this song already there; it shouldn't be an issue. (Obviously not putting it on you.)
@@MatthewNewsomeComposer I neeeeed it >.<
man... every time the music hits accompanied by the clock towers bells i just get chills...
bruh how come this video has 100K VIEWS and yet you have less than 1k subs, like bros just subscribe to this man

Just so you know the US stargate program was canceled and deemed classified during 1995. We should bring back the stargate program especially when we could learn so much how the Egyptians were able to travel time! There's 2 possably 3 stargates known here 1 in Egypt 1 in Atlantis 1 possibly in Iraq (it was recently found and stones were removed too to prevent tresspassers from entering the gate and to stop anything from coming out of the gate) This gate found in Iraq is literally a stone arc with symbols leveled within a wall
good
nice
Everyone needs to turn the subtitles on right now and rewatch this video.

Very moving. Great job!
Oh my god this has to be one of the best covers (or whatever you'd like to call it) I've EVER heard! It's just so beautiful and adds to the base music so much!!! Amazing work!
Happy to be like number 400 for this. :)
Gerudo Valley used to be my favorite desert theme in all of Zelda but I think this one definitely takes the spot and rightfully soâĶ. Absolutely amazing ð
Terrifingly stunning.... I just let go all the tears i was holding for long.... Thank you ð
This is def my fav overworld theme in any game and you my friend made it a million times more enjoyable. If you take requests I would love to see u re-orchestrate hyrule castle tower from twilight princess or the ghirahim fight theme phase 1 in SS
Thank you so much! I've got a long list of stuff I plan to get around to re-orchestrating and those two tracks are both on it!
This is exactly how it should sound! âĪâĪâĪ
I particularly love the bell in this piece. Love how it breaks into the song, like something from the outside, clearly not part of it, and yet it's inclusion just accentuates the feeling of tragedy, heralding the approaching demise of us all and giving us final notice, like "Listen up, everybody! This is it! The final toll. You better make up with the one you wronged, reunite with those you love or do that one thing you always wanted, because now you are fastly running out of time!". However, that's just the thing... I also feel like this song is sort of giving us a final gift... like, in this end-of-the-world kind of death, a strange kind of comfort is found in the fact that we all will go together, like, nobody will be able to survive... hence, nobody is left behind to be grief stricken this time. We all face it together. Oh yeah, also awesome how the bell keeps going throughout the song as well; though fading so we can focus on the song itself, it is still always there reminding us that we better make the best of the time we have. Truly great job!
The chills, man, this game is something else
FOR ALL TIME. ALWAYS.
This is really well done. Super realistic. I'm impressed. Great job!
4:20 the end of the world startðĒ
HmmâĶ A Zelda remix That ACTUALLY rivals the og!
I was having a pretty lousy day. Your awesome remix cheered me up. Subscribed.
This is haunting
Hans Zimmer would applaud this! I absolutely loved the addition of the ticking clock towards the end! Bravo! ð
