Star Wars: Attack of the Clones - Across the StarsâReorchestration & MIDI Mockup
An all-by-ear transcription, reorchestration and MIDI mockup of a short section from Across the Stars, one of the key themes featured in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (as well as it's sequel). It was originally composed by the legendary John Williams, and therefore all rights go to him, Lucasfilm and to Disney.
As it's the Maestro's 90th Birthday (although I slightly missed the mark by a day) I decided to have a go at transcribing this simply wonderful piece. It's probably my absolute favourite composition of his (with A Window to the Past definitely in close second) and I aimed, above all, to get as much expression out of my virtual instruments as possible and really, really dive deep into the emotion of this theme. I think it's definitely the most realistic sounding MIDI mockup I've ever made and under the hood you'd be able to see why - breath control, vibrato and expression for each instrument as well as experimentation with sound source placement according to the original recording layout AND I even went as far as to find out the approximate measurements of Abbey Road Studio 1 to simulate an approximate reverb and additionally dial in room tone. I'd loved to have done the entire piece, but I think my brain (not to mention my very sickly iMac) would have imploded, and I was desperately trying to get it done in time as well.

The way Zelda Team set up their characters and stuff during the final hours sequence honestly makes the foreboding sense of dread in the song hit even harder than normal. Swordsmaster guy saying he doesnât wanna die gives me chills every time like âMY POOR BABYâ, not to mention all the guys who decide to tough it out and accept their fate. Anju and Kafei, the Ranch Sisters, even the damn postman, they all have such real raw reactions. I donât think any game could top that foreboding feeling from the Final Hours.

I thought this track was so underrated, especially the dulcet additions in the past variant, so it's such a blessing not only for a reorchestration of it to exist, but one as hauntingly gorgeous as this. You've filled out the sound so amazingly, the atmosphere is really elevated from the original - it's obvious to tell how the original made you feel through your arrangement of it, and that's really delightful!
This remix was GREAT! At times even better than the original, especially the last half.

What instruments did you use? And if they are vsts or kontakt libraries, which ones were they? What an impressive job, you left me speechless and someday I would like to make this type of music, that's why I ask (apart from the fact that it's my favorite game and for me tloz ss has the best soundtrack)

Hey! Thanks for your comment, about 2 years ago I went full-time with work as a composer and orchestrator, so it's become harder and harder to find the time to do more covers/arrangements. I've still got lots planned and I'm hoping there's one or two almost-finished ones I can polish off an upload soon!
This one took six minutes(exclude the title which lasted 8 seconds) while also adding a game timer of 6 minutes I can die peacefully knowing that face-moon will crash in exactly 6 game hours.

This shit was way too dark to be a children's game. Just look at how impactful this game was to all of us, the way it still affects us as grown adults.

Hey there, great question! If you mean the one at roughly 0:22 - that's just a tubular bell hit that's been electronically edited so that the initial attack has a slower onset, but if you mean the lower secondary one around 0:24 or 0:26 (which is the same one used in the original track), I'm unfortunately not sure! I've been on a bit of a quest to find out exactly what sample was used - definitely an idiophone of some type, probably a suspended tuned gong, perhaps maybe an effected Javanese kenong or bonang... The closest lead I have is a Java Gong sample from Omnisphere (which was used heavily throughout the Skyward Sword Soundtrack) Java Gong - B2-G3, which was originally from Spectrasonic's "Heart of Asia" library. It definitely sounds close but I think it was layered in with other samples and processed. Hope that helps!

Wow. This is by FAR the most perfect version of the Final Hours I ever heard. The bells starting at 2:35, the music going crescendo... And then, 4:20 with Skull Kid laughing, and the clock in sync with the music, the choir raising... PERFECTION!
