Had no idea she was from the south until I heard her here.
i watched this when it originally aired, at my grandma's house. she... did not like it.
Love them so much, Love her voice
🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
Cool!...too bad the last performance was cut off..great to hear it live at that venue
I saw them dozens of times starting in the early 90s they played all over Chicago it was a great time of my life and they were a big part of it
I read a few times that this was one of Ricky's personal highlights in his B-52s career. Guiding Light was on for years beforehand, so I guess this was a matter of getting on a show his parents (or maybe just his Mom) used to watch.
One of the best albums EVER!!!!!
Man, Susan Voelz in her prime… what a beauty!
Really talented band here... too to bottom some great sounds, creative and peotic lyrics that mean something. Underrated for sure.
How in the world can this be 41 years ago!?!! The Guiding Light was just too KOOL to have them on. Forget UGA, they are One of the main reasons to love Athens, GA.
What your Moms were doing while you were at school! This is incredible! I remembered a friend of mine when we were in the 8th grade (1981), telling me about this nutty band that used smoke detectors & toy pianos, also named after a Big Ass Bomber (OK, a Big Axx Hairdo)...I was hooked at smoke detectors. To top it off, they were from Athens, about 60 miles away. Years later, I married a chick who was into 'The Guiding Light". But this was several years after the B-52s were on the show. I got into the Soap with her & we watched for a few years as Rick & Riva & all of the other krazy, sordid, Venezuelan, back-stabbin' great over-the-top stuff progressed. BUT, I didn't find out that The Guiding Light had such great insight into New Wave like the B-52s were featured until TODAY...NOV 2023!!! Just when you think you know "history>, something else new comes along to blow your mind! I found this via a TH-cam video of a Martha Quinn segment on MTV...& wow, here I am.
RIP Brad Houser.
❤ Alie
I saw this show at the FOX in Atlanta in 1982. I was 15. My first concert.
she reminds me of alice K
Fricken loooooovvve that accent. She's goddam Perfect . Come on?! Paul fricken Simmon?!?!? FFS!
one of my favorite bands from chicago, glad they are coming here in phoenix this year.
They’re originally from Hawaii and then relocated to Austin which is where I used to see them in the 1980’s
Did not know Chris Farley played the accordion
The guy who introduced the band was hot but he's probably 70 years old now! 😮

Usually you get a refrain or two from a musical guest appearance on tv, but credit to the show for letting the whole tune play out. Soap opera, so I guess they don't mind letting something fill in the time if it's entertaining but nice not to have it cut off.
Looking forward to this band in Chicago on sept 9th
Susan on violin was my next door neighbor. Of course I had a crush on her. So talented. I didn’t have a chance!
I saw them live around this time and a great thing about Poi is that everyone in that band is fun to watch. But I was entranced by the way Susan would half-hop and half-stomp on the stage while she played. I've been nuts about her ever since.
Love Susan's solo work too
Maldira camara no enfoca a Cindy wilsonnn
Bundles of talent!!!
0:53 anyone know the background song???
I think it is shooting rubber bands at the stars
@@stephi707 I found it, its called wicked
Cute hippy hillbilly
That's a damn good album I must say discovered her today... anyone know any other albums by her that are good
I can't believe I can't remember if I've seen this performance before. Since I first heard this around the time the album came out I've always thought it had one of the coolest guitar solos I've ever heard, and I've always been a music nerd. It sounds like it has cool finger picking and slide going on at the same time and has key changes(?). I don't know. It's really complex. When I concentrate on it, my eyes look around in like 3 different directions like; where's all this coming from :)
This moment, captured for posterity, may be the acme of the Austin music scene.

Hillary's really getting into it.
I'm trying to figure out why the appearances of Gary Busey doing Stay All Night, Tower of Power doing The Attitude Dance that aired on David Letterman's Late Night Show does not appear on TH-cam??? Should I post them??? These's are some of the greatest performances that I still watch that the rest of the world is deprived of. What's the deal buddy..are my people putting me on????? I'll wait for an answer. I just hope it's good enough. Or is it an control issue people. Just saying, Peace.
This appears mimed? Kate has no microphone?
Playback.
😂🤣😅
Became a fan when I first heard the Ghost of a Dog album back in....87 or 88? That album actually became a big part of my life for a while during that period (long story, and of course it has to do with a girl..lol) .....I got to see them live in late 1990 on the Ghost of a Dog tour.....they played at a small venue called "The Chance" in Poughkeepsie, which was a perfect place for them....because every seat was a really good seat....and they put on a great show. I would love if they, or Edie on her own, played in my area now......would love to see her/them again.
Can you imagine what is was like for me to come home from. school and to see my favorite band on my Mom’s soap opera? I had recently bought Party Mix, my first album and could not believe it, freaked out and danced - then saw another song! My poor parents thought that I was crazy, LOL!
Cool❤
Matt Chamberlain on drums. Legend! When EB and NB hit radio/Mtv it was such a departure from what was going on then. Incredibly refreshing and her voice is amazing. Being from Texas, I know that drawl she has very well and it is just one little thing that made me crush on her back in 88. She was gorgeous then and is to this very day! There is more musical talent in that band than 90% of what's been on the radio the past 10 years. Love them mpre today than ever!
They totally bypassed the 80s and went into Janis Joplin territory and withiout knowing it Nirvana.
He went on to drum for tori for many years
Max Crawford for the win!
Still loving their music 🎶 God, Edie turns me on!! Beautiful woman & great singer.
Ahhh, the good old days.
Wow what crap.
And why did you bother to listen? They are amazing.
@@amymorse9266 amazingly horrible.
You are in the minority on this opinion
Saw them play some little club in Deep Ellum in 86 or 87 and thought they sounded pretty good. I remember thinking I wouldn't be surprised if they were on the radio one day, and sure enough not long after I moved to Houston a couple years later it was playing on the rock stations!
What's that square cardboard thing David held up?
LoL
lol…..their album
OMG
Ricky thought of this appearance as a highlight in the B-52s career for him. I wasn't around then so I don't know what Guiding Light meant to a lot of people whenever it was on.
At the time this episode aired in April 1982, "Guiding Light" was already on TV for nearly 30-years (June 1952) and had been in broadcast (on radio for 47-years, January 1937 began on radio), so the show meant a lot to many people by this time.
lol@cindy on sax
I like a band where they decide to have one of every instrument
I believe the term for that is orchestra
Great band. Long history of personnel changes, and long history of excellent music-making. Love 'em. Hawaii, Austin, Chicago. Arcade Fire sounds just like 'em, but no love for Poi Dog?
the girl at the table in the red sounded like Adrienne Barbeau
WHY on earth did the b's do THIS song? I heard the show requested it.
They were promoting "Mesopotamia", but yes, it is indeed a weird choice... Should have played "Mesopotamia" (the song) instead, but maybe it wasn't funny enough for the show ?
The show requested it Fred said
I'm sure what happened was that the producers were unfamiliar with the songs. Probably didn't even listen to them. They just saw a list of the songs on their new album and thought "Throw that beat in the garbage can" was a funny title so they told them to play that. You know, shiny objects and all that.
