Sabre 2000 Y Axis Ballscrew Noise Diagnosis and Fix
มุมมอง 202ปีที่แล้ว
We kept hearing an odd clang/grind noise in the Y axis of this machine ever since we bought it about a year ago, and it was finally time to tear it apart. We may do a follow up video of the encoder alignment procedure and backlash testing, but the machine is back and better than ever and running parts again.

The cover of mine has come off while driving, exposing the spring. It’s a GM one. Can I just reattach it with hi temp Silicon or something?
Hello, please help us if possible. We have a Cincinnati Sabre 500, Acromatic A2100 milling machine There was a ball screw with a pitch of 12 on the X-axis, I had to install a screw with a pitch of 10, how can I change the pitch of the screw in the parameters?
go into the configuration page, under servo or axis, theres a parameter for revolutions/unit. the password for service is "worldclass"
The 2500 frame doesn't need to be boxed because it is a good bit thicker metal than the 1500 frame.
throw on some 3/4 axles and Bam you have a better 3/4 truck frame
been there. my 1500 in the background has a dana70 out back, a 9.25 front diff, 2500 front knuckles, 4l80 and a 263 tcase
expect that the 2500 frame is made of thicker metal and doesn't need to be boxed.
@@billclisham8668 its not. It flexes a lot more. Even loading the bare frames up on the scrap trailer with the forklift the 2500 frame was like a wet noodle
Hey Olson! Anyway you could make a video on your rs232 configurations of these a2100’s?
@@Donkusdelux why? They have ethernet. We just network them all and drag and drop files onto them. Zero nedd for rs232 and we dont even use it. We use floppy sometimes when the ethernet was acting up. You dont even need the "ethernet" option enabled, just a plain Intel ISA NIC installed.
@ I have been trying to set up rs232 for everything, even the machines that don’t have Ethernet. But I am new to hooking up computers to them and it’s been kicking my ass a bit
@@Donkusdelux gotcha. Ill have to mess with mine. We use rs232 for all of our fanuc machines and our mazaks, plus our 2 old 850 control Cincinnatis but the 8 mills with 2100 control we are on ethernet and ive never even tried to use it on them
@@OlsonKustomWorks I see, i have the books for the A2100, but my issue is i dont know enough about rs232 to know what the issue even is lmao. i have my dnc software ready and waiting to send a program over, but i dont know how to initiate it from the A2100, "start transfer" is greyed out. must not yet be communicating via the rs232 completely
@@OlsonKustomWorks Ayeee got her figured out on the a2100 with no handshaking
Would you say the 1500/2500 differences are also similar to the GMT900?
yes
If you don't mind me asking. What kind of program you have on the PC? The program that you used to write and load programs to CNC?
theres plenty of DNC software out there. We use NCLink from OneCNC.
Work shieft MZ.+input ok
Cách này vẫn không hay . Bấm MZ.+ Input máy sẽ hiểu tọa độ Z
I came across this video whilst trying to find info on the tool setter that is on my lathe. Cnc lathes are new to me . I have the same tool height gage as you for my mill . What i have now done is use that setter on the chuck face a set all the Z heights to that with a work offset of Z -2.00 and in fusion programme everything from chuck face
Your machines jog and tool changer are so quiet. Did you ever set up a renshaw or automatic probe on this machine? Wanting to do that on mine for some production stuff. Also my tapping code doesn't work well lmao it breaks taps going slow even in a floating tap holder
With that computer monitor, are you using a CAM software to send programs to the controller or are you just using it for reference and hand writing your programs?
@@drewwajer we have bobcad that does the cam work if needed then we DNC into the control. But most of our programs are quicker to hand program real quick. We still use the PC to type them out then just load them to the machine. All of our fanucs and mazaks are done like this.
Every fanuc and mazak control here has a PC at the machine for program editing, loading a program from the main server, and RS232 loading. Our cincinatti mills are networked so we can just post the code directly to the machine drive.
Thank you I have a 1500 suburban and I purchased a 2500 rolling chassis and I’m going to be body swapping it onto that. Also going to be doing a duramax swap with the 2500 chassis
Wassup man I want to do a 8.1 swap on my 2001 suburban 1500 4x4 would it be hard to do or am I better off doing a frame swap?
Get a built 6.0 and nv4500 swap
Built 6.0 550hp to crank n/a
Anybody know where I can take my suburban to get the frame changed gonna make a few dumb choices with it and don’t want it to split in half in the middle of the road
Mrdy fin off alarm
Hey champ thanks mate mine worked thanks for your guide
Thanks for the informative video. 🫡🫡
I really want one of those old multiplex i have a big repeat job that would be perfect for one. A bunch of them went super cheap at auction from a genie plant in Redmond. Still kicking myself for not picking one up. Not that we have room for one at the moment lol
Both of mine came from the Genie plant in Redmond, but they had been bought by another company that went under after that, and I bought it from them in Bellingham. We always have open machine time on them if you want to send some work this way.
Thanks
Curious to know what this cars modifications are? Obviously an aftermarket thermostat because ECT's are 20 deg below stock. Also assuming upgraded IC brick as IAT delta's are much better than we normally see on a stock GT500. Good stuff here.
It’s an upgraded lid and brick on the blower, colder thermostat, the intake and a raptor R pulley and tune
I know what's wrong with it its got to much slop init
The way this tows, in comparison to the turbo LS trucks on youtube, is very impressive. Reminds me of how my uncles LBZ pulls, no downshifting it just goes. Very impressive
Great video could you help Me set up a drip feed to our machine from cam software
You dont need to drip feed a 2100 control, just hook up a network cable and drag and drop files onto the hard drive
also what gear ratio?
3.73s
what cv shafts are you using with the 9.25 front diff?
Stock 2500s. Its also got stock 2500 knuckles so its all the same as a standard 2500
@@OlsonKustomWorks with a 1500 frame? tell me more!
The truck frames are closer right? If this was silverado 2500 vs 1500 they are damn close besides the beefed up frame rails
Maaaaan, you saved me 1 day of figuribg this thing on my own😊
Probably more than that, but it really depends on how familiar you are with Fanucs older controls, and lathes in general
@@OlsonKustomWorks nearly zero in both. Have yaskawa j300 controlled vmc, but it is like 10 years newer. And offset measurement is much diferent
taking them to scrap? they look brand new compared to what's rolling the streets of New England
Did you not watch the video? The 2500 frame had been repaired badly multiple times. And the 1500 frame was bent and folded in the front from a collision. Neither were fixable
I understand the key+ wire from the head unit to the light green , but did you need to run the ground wire from the vehicle??
Nice video, i love my 03 2500 Suburban and i also own a 86 k5 blazer and there is alot different in ways of frame construction back in the 60's-80's C/K trucks to even a 92 silverado i used to own, it had a decent built frame with some boxing up front like they did the 2500's. Very informative, thanks for sharing
Dang i wish i saw this when i was looking to buy one. I could’ve saved alot of money. But great video! Thanks for showing us the difference and i love knowing i can swap the cab. U should do one comparing a 2500 pickup with the 2500 suburban
if only i had a 2500 silverado.....
Love this channel. I am still trying to find out what your business is exactly, LOL. Seriously, if you are about serving your customers probably the best way would be to do only the head and the tail, like D&E, sales and inspection/ shipping etc. but leave the actual manufacturing to specialists. I don't know about the supplier base in your neck of the woods but in Holland we have a lot of subcontractors doing good work for reasonable prices, really most often you can't do it yourself more competitively. The number of machines you have is staggering and I am frankly puzzled as to how that would make a viable business case tbh. But I love old machines just as much as the next guy. The Mazak Multiplex has a pretty unique layout, like the whole machine is mirrored about a center plane, never seen anything quite like it. Anyway, I have subscribed and will follow your progress. I work at a very interesting company in Holland, doing CAM programming and learning to operate the old Okumas. The company is specialized in machining especially of gears but we also have a foundry with 3D sand printing of molds which makes one off and small series of casting viable. Typically the products are of larger dimensions but it's not a rule. If you want to know more just let me know.
we are a parts manufacturer, but we also do all of our own repair work.
yeah, well done. we have an old cnc brake press machine at our shop, we turn it on in the morning sometimes it turns on and others not. so we just leave it until the next day and try again lmao. its an old machine so not really worth spending all the money getting it fixed, but when working as an awesome machine.
I used to have an old Beyeler single piston machine, RTS 1200x63 CNC Cybelec 7000 if I remember correctly. Still bummed out I sold it but it did not fit my new shop, it's very tall. It had some issues sometimes but overall it was a very good machine, very unique concept and super robust Swiss quality.
Really interesting machine and videos, thanks.
Thanks. We uploaded another video and we got it fixed!
Great video and channel. I am currently learning to operate CNC on a couple of old Okumas. Cheers from Holland.
Would I be able to use a 1500 Body Mount Bushing kit on a 2500? I drive a 2009 Burb 2500. Thanks for the video and any additional info you can provide.
Body mounts should be the same between the 1500 and 2500. I know at least on the gmt800s they are. The 900s should be the same as well
Wow! You’re a busy man. Thank you for all of your help.
Suburban and Avalanche are different from the 1500 pick-up frame so not a "great" comparison but mostly good info
This is just talking about SUV frames as it says in the description.
@OlsonKustomWorks i don't remember my 02 1500 avi having a boxed frame....
i think u can clear measured x with M X cancel Input
Nice video Question What if you are running two complete different parts with a different Z height How do you set different Z heights in the set ups Thanks
Each setup has its own XYZ and A offsets. Its in the offset tables
Thanks for getting back to me . I will try it out when I get a chance. I resently purchased a 2000 Arrow 2 from Bayer Pharmaceutical R&D facility. Simodrive 611 with A2100. Having a few issius with it got the workstation hard drive and real time board at Fives at the moment. Just curious how do you set your tool length offsets. Did you set up a tram hight of bottom of spindle Thanks @@OlsonKustomWorks
That is good can you make some videos on Hardinge cobra 65 with fanuc 21-t controller
If i had one....
That 3 thou is not sag it’s backlash.
this machine has zero backlash, and no backlash comp active in the control. that "sag" is the delay in the X axis brake catching as the Estop is activated and the servo drive is powered down. Same thing that a Z will do on a mill, they will always drop a few thou when the power is killed before the pin or brake engages and grabs the servo.
Wow. Alot different. I figured they’d be the same for manufacturing purposes and design the 2500 components accordingly.
Bodies are the same thats about where it stops
Hey man Good job. Do you think its possible to do a retrofit on a a2100 that has not been enabled with 4th axis option from factory? Its a 2000 era arrow2 with siemens electronics. Cheers man.
Ok, thanks for this video sir, however, i figured out the important questions that are not specific in this video as we are not automotive electricoans, when you cut the dark blue A2 wire grey connector and the LIGHT green A7 wire brown connector, at the bcm (body control Module) you ground the side of the wire that is NOT going back to the BCM so Harness side to ground on A2 dark blue and same on A7 wire light green, this wire, get yourself a piece of wire and rout it to the radio steering wheel key + wire WITHOUT THE # SIMBOL, hope this clears up wat my dumb ass could understand just from " doing what he did on the video" ither way thanks for making the vide, with a slight understanding of automotive electrical i figured it out. O and i left the steerign wheel controll harness i payed 70dollars for, worked just fine, allowed me to keep the chimes and whatnot just stuff it all behind the radio, clean dont be pigs 😅
Sorry to bother but how do I count the pins to get the right one? Each connector have more than one dark blue and more than green wire in the other one
this is exactly what i wanted to know
Hello, how can I unlock 9000 parameters?
Careful with black mold it will come back to haunt you.. i know too well 😩
Surprising for gm to have so many differences. I'm about to do a 1500 burb body swap onto my 2500 8.1 chassis. I belive the 2500 fuel tank is slightly narrower also making up for the frame rails being closer together where the 1500 tank would have driveshsft issues . Great video . My 8.1 radiator support is bent I was wondering the difference in the 1500 one. Looks like I need to find a replacement for the 2500
How did this go for you? Lining up the 1500 body on the 2500 frame
@alexcurtis9790 body is the same just a few nuts are not in the body in the back where the 2500 mounts were moved due to rear suspension. The holes are there just have to be creative to get nuts in there
