Silverhead Peak, Paleface Mountain & Mount Meroniuk in Chilliwack Lake area BC
These minor summits are located right next to Chilliwack Lake and offers some nice views of the BC Cascades.
On Saturday morning we met each other at 5:30am in Coquitlam, and had our quick breakfast at Macdonald on Whatcom Road. The drive down to Chilliwack Lake was uneventful but the Chilliwack Lake Road is in such a bad shape for millions of pot holes, which took a long while negotiating this shit show. The Paleface FSR seems to have got more water bars than before. The icy conditions made it worse. We had chains in our truck but did not want to spend too much time on it. We eventually parked our truck at 870m elevation, which is 2.7 kilometers away from the usual parking area in snow free season. We were happy about this, as we saw deep snow a few hundreds of meters away from where we parked. We followed our GPS track till Paleface Pass, where we headed to the right and then followed a gully thing to the ridge. This gully was a bit challenging due to the sugar snow on the steep slope. Once on the ridge, it was a nice walk with our snowshoes to Silverhead. A couple of tricky sections to the summit, but we managed with our snowshoes with no problems. Silverhead Peak is a broad peak with 360 degrees of views. We had a quick snack break and quickly left for our second objective, Paleface Mountain. The ridge walk was really nice and the only thing that may be worth mentioning is the summit block, 40+ degrees, which should be avalanche smart. Again, the views at the top were stunning; but we couldn’t linger long, as we needed to go to our third objective, Meroniuk. After losing around 100 meters, we started climbing up to the ridge. One tricky and sketchy area took us a bit longer time. Then it was nothing but a walk to the bottom of the summit block. I had a look and noticed an edge thing on the right leading to a steep slope to the peak. However; my friend started attacking it directly. I later spent 10 minutes with no luck, as the deep snow was not supportive at all. By this time, my friend Oleg had gone to the right side i recommended. Luckily he found the steep gully thing with supportive snow. In no time we were on the summit, enjoying the views around us. On the way back, we took a nice short cut, which saved us lots of time and distance. C2C 10 hours 45 minutes. Totally 18.2 kilometers with 1537 meters of elevation gain per my GPS. Another good day in mountains with my friends.

Puma Peak Whistler BC

Located in Callaghan Valley, Whistler,BC, Puma Peak is the highest of a bunch of summits around and north of Madeley Lake at the head of Callaghan Valley. On Sunday morning we parked our truck at the parking area of Whistler Olympic Park, and walked a few hundred meters to the locked gate, which we jumped over. We followed the groomed ski track for more than 4 kilometers before putting on our s...
American Mountain
มุมมอง 154หลายเดือนก่อน
American Mountain, which does not belong to USA, is located to the northwest of Hope , BC. Some maps also name this mountain as “American Creek Ruby Microwave”, which came from the abandoned microwave towers on the top of the mountain, which were used to transmit and receive microwave communications over long distances before 1990s. We drove along American Creek FSR, which is in a good shape, t...
Mount Jarvis
มุมมอง 154หลายเดือนก่อน
Located next to Coquihalla Highway, Mount Jarvis is a forested summit with dense coastal rainforest on all sides. The forest slopes are very steep (40 degrees) with some tricky and sketchy sections. We parked our truck at the HBC trail parking (330 meters elevation) in Peers Creek drainage, which is around one kilometer away from a camping site with around 10 homeless people. It is very strange...
Mount Ludwig
มุมมอง 223หลายเดือนก่อน
Located in Fraser Valley, Mount Ludwig is not a high mountain with a forested peak, but it is very visible on the highway between Chilliwack and Hope. Since it involves quite some unpleasant bushwhacking, steep hills with not many views, this peak has received very few visits; but many years ago this was a busy logging area. We parked our truck on Jones Lake FSR, in front of a locked gate, wher...

Coin Peak Squamish BC

Located between Pokosha and Coin Creeks at the headwaters of Ashlu River, Coin Peak is rarely visited thanks to its neighboring higher peak - Mt Jimmy Jimmy. We started hiking at 8ish am on Sunday and to our surprise snow started at very low elevation; and we had to put on our snowshoes at 730 meters elevation. Once we got into the forest with steep slopes, we removed our snowshoes and boot-pac...
Burnt Knoll EC Manning Provincial Park
มุมมอง 5362 หลายเดือนก่อน
Located in EC Manning Provincial Park, Burnt Knoll is a great objective for this shoulder season. The parking area is plowed but gated. We had to park outside the gate on Highway 3, and started hiking at 9am. The Fat Dog trail is broken and we followed it for 6.6 kilometers before turning left into the forest with deep powdery snow. Soon we reached the last steep part, which was not easy to bre...
Face Mountain

Located in Semaphore Lakes Pemberton Valley area, Face Mountain is a great place with great views of glaciers and mountains. Compared to many years ago when I did Lacomotive Mountain in snow conditions with friends in Semaphore Lakes, it looks more beautiful in fall. On Saturday we followed the muddy trail to Semaphore Lakes, where we headed directly to the waterfall. We crossed the creeks easi...
Boulder Creek Forest Service Road

Located in Duffey Lake area, Boulder Creek FSR used to be an easy access to some amazing mountains. In the past 10 years, this “road” has changed greatly from good to bad. I was checking this road around 2 months ago, but fell into the creek and badly injured my leg. It was supposed to be a sunny day in Duffey Lake area on Saturday, and my friend and I would like to check to see how this unknow...
MacLeod Peak
มุมมอง 1954 หลายเดือนก่อน
Located on Highway 3, east of Hope, MacLeod Peak is an interesting objective, which offers quite some scrambling fun as well as beautiful views. And it is unlikely you will run into other people in that area. I drove my jeep wrangler up 11 Mile FSR till 1320 meters elevation, right next to a big overgrown cutblock. The FSR is in an OK shape, but it does require a 4x4 with a high clearance. I dr...
Rocktip Peak via Brown Peak
มุมมอง 1884 หลายเดือนก่อน
Located on the north ridge of Silvertip, Rocktip is usually a quiet and beautiful place. Years ago I went to Brown Peak true summit 2214m with my friends, and ever since then Rocktip has been on my list. This video briefly introduced our trip from the ridge, after the steep forest climbing and moderate bushwhacking, to Rocktip. I have my own GPS track to Brown Peak and a friend of mine offered ...
Shawatum Mountain
มุมมอง 1845 หลายเดือนก่อน
Located around 50 kilometers down Silver-Skagit Road on the boundary between Manning Provincial Park and Skagit Valley Provincial Park. Very few people have summited this somewhat hidden, yet prominent and eye-catching peak, probably due to the “horrible” bushwhacking. I injured my left leg two weeks ago in an adventure in Pemberton area. On Saturday August 31, I went to north shore mountains f...
The Old Settler

The Old Settler, elevation 2132 m, is the highest mountain in the southernmost part of Lillooet Ranges of the Coastal Mountains in BC Canada, located between the Fraser Canyon E and Harrison Lake W to the northeast of the town of Agassiz. It is not extremely remote, but the access used to be difficult due to a locked gate at the beginning of the FSR. I met my friend in Coquitlam at 4am on Satur...

Motivating. Hello from the top of Gin Peak Tiger
@@mountfairweather it is beautiful up there in winter 👍
Merry Christmas tiger !
@@mountfairweather Merry Christmas!
so beautiful ❤😮
We just attempted this peak today. Unfortunately the snowpack was so low it was just a dusting of snow on thin ice and rock. After an hour of trying we had to turn around. I hope this winter doesn't turn out like last winter ❄️
@@mountfairweather the crux in winter time is really tricky. When we were there, thin snow on slippery rocks made our crampons hardly eat anything. I took a rope with me and my friend used the rope climb it.
@@tigerlu8518it was smooth slab with thin ice underneath a thin blanket of unconsolidated faceted snow. We would have needed to dry tool the whole thing. Absolutely nothing to grab onto sadly
Tiger Lu the great mountaineer ! Thanks for the motivation 😄
Tiger lu is my favorite mountaineer. Merry Christmas Tiger!

Looks like a tough day's outing and a thorough workout! Btw, your soundtrack is very distorted.

Great climb. still need more snow coverage. bushwhacking and snowshoeing just dont mix well !
Spectacular
Great video!❤️
Fantastic!
Lol, this must have been so easy for your crew that you had to make it more difficult by doing the loop! Always a lovely video!
Wow, a long and tiring day, well done, looks amazing!!
OMG, soooo beautiful and majestic!!! And what a conquest to have done this!

How's the Avi risk here?
@@mountfairweather a traversing part is a huge avalanche slope I remember. Should do it on a safe day.
Do you think the "true summit" would be do-able in the winter Tiger? Ie rappell into the notch and climb with ice tools to the true summit spire/pinnacle?
@@mountfairweather it may be safer in winter time, as compared to non snow season, it should be more reliable with two snow anchors for the rappelling. But you should wait until there is enough snow on the top.
@@tigerlu8518 sounds good. It's a dangerous proposition..may be above my pay grade
thank you for sharing! ill be hiking it next week 👍
Thinking of doing this objective this November... Any tips? 😁
@@mountfairweather the ridge between the two peaks is very pretty and straightforward. The last part to Gillespie peak is steep and better take crampons & an ice axe with you.
Wow
I have a book saying this route is 4th class scramble how accurate would you say this is as I've also heard some say its 3rd class?
The upper part is pretty broad and it depends on where you go. The crux looks class 4 to me.
@@tigerlu8518 Thankyou
Thank you for the writeup , I have been wondering just what the trail is like after the creek as I remember people driving up the ( what is now an obliterated roadbed ) and getting much closer to the lake. In the hood ole days before they banned anything by putting in those nasty gates at the bottom. That is quite the walk to do in one day , at 69 I would probably do an overnighter if I went.
Absolutely stunning 😍 ❤
