Real Acceleration & Impulse Limits of Light Sails
Dr. Richard Norte shared the results of his work on super light-weight sails that will eventually be propelled through space with Earth-based lasers. He expects that this technology will yield a spacecraft that can travel at 0.2 times the speed of light.

Why Should We Go to Space?
มุมมอง 33328 วันที่ผ่านมา
Our LSI intern, Bhavi, is back in school, but she's also still working on videos designed to inform us about the future of space exploration. But she can't do that if we don't have a proper foundation on which to build. With that in mind, she has produced a video about why we send people and probes to space in the first place and how space exploration has impacted our daily lives. Also, if you ...

And u ask me about meds? xD Try to google, it is easily accessible information. p.s. hope u know difference between antimatter, dark matter, and exotic matter

Human beings can only endure about 10 g's on a short term basis which is required to escape the Earth's gravity well. Going faster than that is impossible. Reaction drive propulsion is not ever going to work. Therefore, the only way is to go around the action/reaction paradign and/or will necessarily have to develop inertial compensation technologies and to my knowledge there has been no movement in that direction.

We can't bend the fabric of space yet, but we can go Incredibly Fast. We can Slingshot around the sun- using it's plentiful plasma like a wave runner, and it would look like a fire tornado traveling around the sun. On Top of That- if we do it just right, we might also add a magnetic accelerator like train tracks or Hot Wheels To Give even More Of A Boost. Those would take a lifetime to build

Yeah, but you know what they wish after this goal of reaching Proxima Centaury in only six month??? To make it faster...and still leave in pooverty hundred of millions of people on earth..That's what i will never understand about our specie, why do we have emotions if we don't use it propper, only on our families, some of us, many of us neighter....We allow to have homeless, economical dissasters, wars, and spending toons of money to..explore, discover something that actually we don;t need...Okay, it might be cool, and new, but, starving? poverty? abuse? cruelty? wars? What about it? We don't give a shit...If they provide us a decent meal, coca cola and barbeque, some sunwaves sounds and pools with some artificial sunny light, i think we can go anywhere...The most strange form of life in the universe,humans...

This ship cannot be. It's like asking the effect to create the cause. We can only add more energy hence more of a gravitational field around us but this won't create any pull. Gravity is one way only. All you can get would be an increase of the gravitational field centered where you have your engine running in your ship plus a massive time distortion effect on the ship, on the technology, the people and the intense weight on and in the ship itself. Those huge gravitational strains coming from an engine that is using particles that are limited to the speed of light, to agglomerate and increase its surrounding gravitational field. It would be like having an off center black hole on your ship. You can put the carrot in front of the donkey but in this case the carrot will just be pulled to the donkey just as much as the donkey to the carrot. It is in the realm of possibility that the ultimate speed limit will always remain the speed of light.

This. 24\7 on every News feed, accompanied by a HUGE sign "STOP KILLING EACH OTHER" Nations don't matter. Borders don't matter. Economic gain of the few to impose their will upon the rest is the enemy. Lack of education leading to entitled ignorance is the other one. Survival of the species matters. Best strategy is total cooperation (which doesn't mean universal poverty btw, humanity is overproducing goods and services insanely wastefully). Time is VERY limited. Earth ofc comes first, but second comes Mars and third comes FTL. We have the combined power to manage all of it and still be well fed, educated, protected and entertained.

Nice concept-but when I feel like the lion’s share of our technology is used to destroy and control poor populations fighting to keep their land, resources and their very existence from greedy corporations, when half of all Americans are struggling poor without basic necessities, students under mountains of debt, homelessness growing by leaps and bounds, natural disasters, crumbling infrastructure leave billions vulnerable to escalating climate disaster, as capitalism continues its ravenous predatory grip on humanity and our ecosystem to devote time and vast resources to space travel seems cruel, heartless and irresponsible.

I think you are underestimating how fast we can go with the tech in our reach. We don't have a max speed (till light speed), our tech limitations are in acceleration, thus ion drives can get us going really fast. If the average speed of a ship was even merely 5% of lightspeed, we could get to Alpha Centauri in only 80 years. We could use ion drives and multiple gravity assists for a good headstart and just keep building speed.

Something I never grasp is how space will be allowed to fold. So you have a spaceship that can minimize the distance. But space is physical, it does not bend. And you can't touch something that is very far away.

In theory, by having anti matter and matter plates of this theoretical exotic material, you can create a large amount of energy that can sustain a bubble that pulls space closer in front, and expand it further behind, like how a snail moves, it contracts it's body ahead, but relaxes behind it to make it move.
