The thing about the final statement of "much of Britain's railway still cannot support speeds of over 125mph" may seem insignificant at first to most, but to me it symbolises the loss that the uk has taken. We've fell out of the high speed race that we fought with Europe and Asia and are left as a mere reminder on the collapse of our glory. We were once pioneers of the rails, now we're nothing more than a laughing stock. All in the name of profits. It's depressing. Neither we or anyone else will ever see our railways for the pioneering technology that it once was. The empowerng shine has long been replaced by wretched rust. Worst part is that this is the case for every single sector of uk engineering, from trains to aircraft to electronics to steel. We are just a soulless, bereft service-based corporatocracy We have nothing left.

Whats special about railways? The history the engines the network and finally songs about something else but fits perfectly 😊😊😊

I just moved to seaside of Istanbul near Kordonboyu, we have line "16D" just like your two-floor busses! Theres also 18D and 122C with 2 floor. Istanbul metro also developed heavily, Marmaray is one the most important metro system of world. Kartal Station is next to me, which is a cool thing. I use Marmaray to go to Zeytinburnu (other side)

Sadly for humans, everything is designed to become more advanced, to progress and be more efficient replacing everything before it (if you can call these pieces of garbage on the rails today 'advanced') NOTHING will beat those warm, loud, rocking train rides. A literal BR caterer serving your dinner on the 125. The delicious sandwiches, the bland tea..... god damn, I miss it.

I travelled a lot by train in the 70's, even went to school br train. I remember it all working pretty well. Then in the 90;s and 00's it became the butt of jokes, a reference standard for poor quality. Well, nobody is laughing now? I rerely travel by train now, but when I do it's invariably a raging clusterfuck. Even the catering, christ, bring back Maxpac coffee and curly cheese sandwiches, at least hter was something on offer, now you've no time to eat anything, you're too busy standing on a platform fighting a losing battle some busted ticket machine. It's a fetid sea of ineptidute and rubbish, uncomfortable, weirdly lit overcrowded trains, running bonkers timetables that make decent connections near impossible. Bring back BR...all is forgiven. I used to love the trains, I bloody hate them now.

It's such an honour to have been able to see a Scotrail HST on my vacation down to britain. Especially when most others will never get the chance before they get replaced by some Hitachi.
