Tennessee has had a beautiful fall this year, this is a flight from over Patrick Henry Dam to Indian Springs airport. Originally this video had a sound track, but TH-cam said that the soundtrack was copyrighted and that entitled them to put ads in my video - nope! So redid the video w/o music. Enjoy the sound of the engine & prop... sigh...

Old Poops basic bank & slope mower
มุมมอง 1.1M4 ปีที่แล้ว
The church driveway runs up a hill and has a steep bank on one side. We needed an easy, safe way to mow it, and started this project 3 years ago. After a bit of trial and fixing what broke, we now have a simple and reliable system. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: 1) WHY THE CHAINS? After I finish mowing the bank, I remove the bank mower and use the Craftsman to mow up and down several steep slopes ...

    Just curious have you ever flown without the wing gap seal? I just got a twinstar mark 2 and haven’t flown it yet but it did not come with the wing gap seals and I’m worried this may be an issue if so do you think I could fabricate my own somehow?

      It is not a good idea to omit the gap seal, and it is not hard to build one. Send me an email address and I'll send you the plans for the gap seal.

      @@IchibanoldpoopI went ahead and decided to fly it for the first time I’m wondering do you find that the ailerons surfaces feel kind of sloppy and unresponsive? I mean they work but it’s no where’s near as snappy as I would’ve expect it to be feels rather dangerous almost

    • @Ichibanoldpoop
      @Ichibanoldpoop 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danko1764 That is most unusual. Typically the Kolb has light elevators, normal rudder and heavy ailerons because there is a lot of aileron throw. I even reduced the amount of movement on my MKIII ailerons just to lighten the aileron feel a bit. You do have the gap seal on, right?

    • @Ichibanoldpoop
      @Ichibanoldpoop 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danko1764 You need the wing gap seal. I would consider the airplane unairworthy without one. That is why your ailerons are unresponsive. A number of years ago a friend of mine was flying his Firestar, it had a fabric gap seal that came loose on takeoff and he just barely managed to get it down in one piece and he was an excellent pilot. I have the full plans for the fuselage gap seal, I cannot post them on line because they are copyrighted, but I can send them to you, and you can make it in a day or two with some thin aluminum sheet and some lightweight aluminum angle from Home Depot.

      Tell me this again when you are 78 years old, and you have arthritis and back problems. <Grin> 5 minutes? The church was paying a local mowing service $135 every two weeks to weed eat this hill with string trimmers. Seemed to me that this was not the best use of the Lord's money, so I got creative. This is the 4th season that I have been using this rig and it was paid off after the 1st season. But - I realize you can't please everybody. Have a nice day.

    Great idea but wouldn't the poles need to be telescopic in order to bring the 'uphill mower" closer to the 'tug' as it progresses downhill and closer to the road? Otherwise it seems that you would have to drive the tug further into the road and eventually even on the other side... or is this okay because its your own driveway? :) Very cool idea! Thanks for sharing.

    • @Ichibanoldpoop
      @Ichibanoldpoop 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are exactly right. The first season when this was still a work in progress, I had one set of booms about 6' long, and I did the lower half of it from the bottom up, and a second set that were about 3' long to do the top half from the top down. Worked, but a hassle to swap them out. Then I made up the current booms which are long enough for me to get the mower up to the top lip of the bank. One problem is that as the booms get longer, they can overwhelm the tugs ability to leverage that much mass at a further distance, and if you are not careful, you can get yourself into a situation that is difficult to get out of.

  • @tellfile
    @tellfile 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That's what I needed to cut really steep banks. Usually with my particular rider, I would just climb off it while in gear still moving and just walk beside it cutting the bank i.e, banks a little less steep than yours, because it would be too top heavy with me on it. My first thought with your set up was the long polls would flex too much, but I didn't see that happening.
