    Dear Reader, This is a pleasant surprise. Selling cars isn't about cars, it's about people. The moment a person in an organisation has the courage to treat a customer as real person, with arguments and feelings, the whole deal is already done. So now Mr 'My Ami Vice' has a reason to be proud about his car, because he has been heard and his arguments taken seriously. Well done; for both parties. I wish him and his Ami a pleasant and 'friendly' cooperation. With Kind Regards, Michel F. van den Brun unemployed 50-plus ex public affairs strategist

Gerbing do a fantastic range of heated vests and gloves which can either be wired to the 12v or can use rechargeable batteries. Citroën must be making an insane profit to build something so simple (and under engineered) and to build it in Morocco. If it was built in China we'd be having these for under €3000... The poor suspension alone is embarrassing for the Ami namesake.

      The Ami is now ready for ordering in Turkey for 450,000 TL - or about £11,000 At that price, they've just ruined the Ami as an affordable town EV runabout. The whole ISP of Ami/Topolino is it's low sale price and running costs for purely town use.

    agree, they have done so much mistakes in such a small car, i dont even know how they were testing it. In cold or rainy wether its not able to drive couse you see barely nothing. i have my ami for 3 years and i need to wait one more year to get regural normal driving licence and drive normal cars with conditioner and better batery. i was just minding why couldnt they put a litle bigeer batery, it wont weight much more but it will improve problems with small range and half a problem with cold and rainy wether. Why havent they made bigger space behind seats, cause there is plenty of space that is not used, same with front of the car, they just could make it bigger, and plastic wont weight too much so that car went out of L6E rule zone. So much mistakes made in such small car, i dont know how they were planing and projecting this car

    Nice to see you are progressing your hobbyist ideas on the vehicle. Will be interesting to see how durable that heating system is in a tiny car bouncing around the roads in Preston. Practically how are you going to refill the diesel tank for the heater.. clearly it’s not accessible with the back panel on. Those heaters produce a lot of heat so your car will get warm but as there is little insulation in the Ami that heat will quickly get lost but I guess for your short journeys that’s not so bad. An interesting hobbyist project but even in a warmer Ami i’m not convinced the vehicle would be usable 12 months of the year. Good luck nice to see your ideas coming to fruition.

    I think reheating I.e. taking heat from the vehicle is SOO much overkill just run a 2KWChinese diesel heater straight into the back of the cab, would more than enough. An additionally battery for the heater is essential as it draws a large current to fire it up and the 12V battery fitted to the Ami may not be capable of doing both. required The Ami won’t drive without its 12V battery,I don’t know how the fitted Ami battery is charged, I assume it happens when it’s plugged in, if that is the case, will the fitted system allow another battery to now charge a second backup? Further more the fuel tank needs to be safe as far as a rear end crash is concerned ?

    It is good to see how neatly the Webasto heater fits in the space available; thanks for sharing this project. At 6:16 the 100 aH Lithium battery should be able to power the Webasto fan and electric accessories for longer than is needed for short trips in the Ami. Is that Lithium battery similar in size to the original lead acid battery?

  • @jackoneil3933
    @jackoneil3933 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Interesting to see the result thank for sharing. I think a second battery with an isolator for the Webasto would be a good addition, and you could likely use something like an inexpensive 20amp or less bridge rectifier with in inline protection fuse rather than a large and heavy vehicle isolator. I located a relatively affordable lithium iron phosphate battery that's the same form-factor as the OEM Ami Battery for Tim in France. I seem to recall it was 2X the capacity and half the weight so that might be enough to run the heater for a while, but of course once the 12V AMI battery is flat, you're not going anywhere without a jump. In regards to steaming up, and de-misting the windscreen, as the cabin heats up, your moisture may condense on the cold windows, and I wonder if bringing in fresh air from outside might help in flushing moisture out of the cabin. I know on my Toyota, if I set the the the cabin air to recirculate without using the air conditioning compressor to dehumidify the air, and run full heat on the windscreen, as the cabin heats up, all that moisture condenses on the windscreen but if I set the cabin air to bring in outside air it forces the moisture out. but if I run the heater on the floor or panel vents and not the windscreen it fogs badly. If you decide to go with the hot-air duct to the windscreen, perhaps restricting the flow to the rear hot air inlet wold help divert some more air forward.

    For charge/discharge control, you need a DVSR or VSR relay, commonly used in boats. When the car is charging, the 2 batteries are connected in parallel (when over 12.8 V) and when charging stops, it disconnects the two batteries, so the heater runs only on the auxiliary battery, and can never drain the original battery. I would recommend feeding the heater with outside air, otherwise you will have condensation problems, as there will be nowhere for the humidity in the air to escape. The difference in heating will be negligible anyway.

    No harm is trying the setup the way that it currently stands. If it doesn't work as you expect then you've lost nothing because adding ducting to the front is ancillary to what you have and not rework..

    • @MyAmiVice
      @MyAmiVice 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      im thinking of splitting the Air flow from the vent and taking the ducting of the frame to the roof and putting an adjustable vent on to point the heat forward towards the windscreen but across the side windows as taking it to the front via another route would require smaller ducting which in turn may overheat the webasto and cause it to switch off

    Think you over complicating things here. I just run short hose through backpanel into car. Air intake is external. 2kw is far more than you need to heat car. I just use fan without heater to clear window as air is so warm inside. Leaving in Scotland regularly below zero. I just get it finished before winter is over!

      From many years of experience with air-cooled VW transporters I can tell you that thin walled pvc pipes will lose 75% of any heat that you send down it. If you are determined to bring pipes to the front of the Ami I would take them inside the car and then the heat will bleed into the car rather than heating the world in general. The VW system is lagged and still loses most of its heat.

    metal rectangular pipe underneath would be my suggestion.....low profile and tough enough if it should 'ground' now and then

    Aircraft SCAT tubing might be something to consider if you end up going with smaller tubing around the Sill and forward as it's dual-layer smooth silicone rather than corrugated paper and foil, and might offer a bit less resistance. It's a bit pricey, and I don't know if it's readily available in the U.K. but it's very available in the U.S.

      It is a concern, but to be fair this heater will suffice in a log cabin in canada so i think it will still do what i need, and also with a bit of lagging, after all a little biyt of foam wrap stops an outside water tap from freezing up so, it should should do, and somehow i need a little bit of residual heat to get to the battery

      I used to install a bit larger Webasto heaters in trucks and equipment in Alaska and they moved so much very hot air that cooling loss from duct tubing was minimal. I also installed a bit smaller Espar heater in the engine compartment in a 34ft cabin cruiser I used to have, and ran about 25ft of 3" duct to a forward cabin with two vents on the run to the main cabin, and still got plenty of very hot air in the forward.

      @@BarrieCrampton Thanks Barrie, I'm very interested to see how this works in the AMi. I've been chatting with Tim from 'Me an Mon Ami' from the time he got his Ami and the fogging is a huge issue for him even on the French Riviera, and I mentioned 12V diesel heaters to him a couple of years ago, but unless and experienced professional who's familiar with them I'd be hesitant to recommend having a custom install done. anyone. The cheap Chinese knock-offs are intriguing, and while I might consider one for portable emergency heat or camping, I' think I'd stick with the Webasto unit. 20 years ago s but we had so many functional and safety issues with portable diesel heaters in the Arctic, including the commercial/industrial Webasto units, I consider some user knowledge in regards to function and safe operation a must, and unattended operation not advisable, but I expect the newer computer controlled units to be better today. While I never had any issues with the Espar heater, I never slept in my boat with the Espar diesel heater running as a leak in a boat is much riskier than underneath a vehicle where fuel can drip on ground.

    Hi Barry, if you're going to go to this effort, the windshield definitely needs to be heated. Even if it means using thinner pipes. I'm excited to see how it works when it's finished. thank you for keeping us posted! Greetings from Germany

      yes, honestly im trying to think of the best way I was hoping to go through the battery pack compartment so that some of the residual heat would warm the battery to help with charging and loss of speed in cold weather, i have to find a. way to do it that doesnt look silly or just bleed off heat due to a long length of pipe being exposed to the outside elements

    I also bought the AMI, but I bought them for shopping and to ride to friends. I was a cyclist and had all kinds of bicycles, but after an incorrect operation on my knee I had to sell them and the AMI is a solution. My regret is that the window cannot be opened on the roof and the heating is not good, otherwise it is good for the price

    I'm very curious about the other tiny electric car! I love your videos about the Ami, but because it's not launched in Norway, and charging below -5 °C might become a challenge I'm hungry for info on other models. I'm considering maybe getting an L6e-BP later this year. I love the design of Citroën Ami. Ligger Myli seems a bit on the expensive side. MEV City 123, seems ok, but I know too little about it. I believe they use different names in other countries.
