The Road Less Traveled with Alex McCulloch
Is the first-generation Honda Insight one of the greatest cars ever made?
The first-generation (G1) Honda Insight was one of the greatest cars ever made. Built in the same factory, and derived from some of the same technology as the original Acura NSX, it was the first mass-produced hybrid released to the U.S. market. Available with a proper manual gearbox, and boasting the best drag coefficient and highest fuel economy of any production car for over a decade, the mass market misunderstood the G1 Insight-it was too much too soon.
Our mission in this episode is to unravel the story of the G1 Insight by subjecting its revolutionary design to a daunting test. We embark on a quest to locate Prometheus, the world's oldest tree, with just one tank of gas. Once the oldest known tree in the world, Prometheus met a tragic fate in 1964 when it was felled by graduate student Donald Currey. Our journey to find it would require us to cover nearly 700 miles on just over 10 gallons of gas, a true testament to the G1 Insight’s capabilities. Join us on this captivating adventure as we weave together the narratives of the G1 Insight and the Prometheus tree.

Keep off roading weird!
I purchased a Suzuki Carry Van 4x4 in Brisbane, drove it to Cairns (Far North Queensland) a distance of around 1700km, they are awesome little vehicles
This is awesome! Doing the Trans America Trail in a mini truck is on my bucket list.
In local used car shop K Vans and K trucks go for $6K but if we can import cars from Japan it would be a huge damage for competitions that’s why there is 25 yrs law😅people still buy 25 yrs old JDM 🎉I would get that Mitsubishi Delica which has Montero drive train. And I wish Suzuki stayed in the US so we would have New “Jimny “ Samurai.
AWESOME trip and awesome tiny truck perhaps more people go this road - one don't need expensive side by side or jeep to experience great outdoors on budget !
Yes it will even survive as broken car as long as it will drive from the mountains of the Philippines.
hey thats where i'm from, might visit ther e later.
Kei vehicles do not have motorcycle engines...
In Europe we get these type of vans with 1.0 and 1.3 l engines
Asian vehicle coolant. LOL.
Need a diesel version
My Dad, my Uncle and I all had these Insights. Great cars, great video.
they are soooo-dang CUTE ! heck yeah, the USA needs to build similar ASAP!!!
Usa won't there is no money to make in them not enough people would buy them everyone wants big luxury trucks for families unfortunately
Don't know why these guys are hyping this up, a mom-mobile 4 runner with 4x4 and decent tires can get over this without a problem, this place is not even close to difficult. I know this because I just did this a couple months ago.
So cool. That truck would fit in the bed of my 1961 vw pickup bus! Cheers.
Awesome video.
Beautiful videography, but the whole thing is pointless. Pull it with a humongous pickup truck, then drive to the top of a mountain? These are work trucks in Southeast Asia.
こんな絶景の中走ってるのか。なんか不思議な感覚
You know, i drove one of that Mini truck here in the philippines and the reason that keep on installing is the Fuel motor and Filter as our Company Mechanic observe.
I id that loop in winter in my Jeep. Thanks for the memories. Last off road trip I did before moving overseas.
these things are still sold where i live and with a bigger engine, you can find 90's and 00's ones mostly coloured black absolutely covered in rust and all kinds of horrible condition yet they still miraculously run, honetly a testament to suzuki quality, i've seen more old suzuki motorcycles in better conditions than their other japanese counterpart, we had a running joke here that suzuki vehicles are so damn reliable their dealerships run out of business XD
you need an oxygen tank to inject into the air intake.
Why didn't you rejet it for at least your home altitude?
I wonder how well a Steyer Puch Halflinger would do on this. I also wonder if you could put a small low pressure turbo on this to make it work better in the mountains.
My Volvo 940 with rwd would do that without breaking a sweet 😂
oh my god is that a tree stump? i'm gonna cum
"It's not super technical!" he says.... as a he drives down a perfectly flat graded improved dirt road.
funny fact me and a couple of guys broke down at the top of engineers pass and we had to fix a diff with sticks and zip ties and I also pooped up there aswell. In all I think we where up there for 25 hours before we made our way back down. I think im the only human to poop up there in probably 100 years lol.
I did the loop on a crf250l. At one point I was struggling and a guy on an Africa Twin passed me with a passenger on the back.
I have a Honda Acty, and use mine for gathering firewood and plowing. It mostly works great for those things, though as I'm not a mechanic, been struggling trying to fix an issue where it runs like absolute crap until the engine warms up - then it works great. Swapped out the fuel filter and the thermostat, but no dice. Don't buy old vehicles unless you can fix em!
You are the truth influencer. I have the same C4S, by the way.
So happy Canada has the 15 yr rule
35年ルールに変更しないと日本から軽トラが無くなっちゃうよ。
I mean what do you think the geography of east asia is? It's all mountain.
Wheres the exhaust tip from? The centre circle looks larger than the stock option? i love it, who made it?
Looks like PSE
You should have rejetted the carb
Surprised no one has come up with ring and pinion lower gearing for these vehicles.
I saw this video about a year ago, and since than I have seen it about 10-15 times. This video made me fall in love the carrera 996 and made me buy one. Love the video and the work you all do!
this are farmers equipment in Japan?
Anyone know what car is in the back in 4:35 (small grey van)
They literally tell you in the video. Watch it again.
Probably easier on the rig than trying to keep up with freeway traffic.
Definitely on my bucket list! Great video, Thanks Man!
my dream car
Someone in my neck of the woods hauls their mountain sled in the bed of their Sambar. The track sits in the bed and the skis sit on the roof of the cab, it's crazy!
Which light set did you use and how are they powered?
Man I want a rack like that on my wrx
"I connect to it emotionally"
Awesome man, those trails are incredible.
Making me miss my kei truck but it’s okay I’ve been working coloring one car after another after selling my truck
We have a suzuki carry (aka Multicab here in the Philippines). It needs repair though. However, I am very excited to drive it again. Thanks for this content❤
