    I really enjoyed watching your demonstrations, they reminded me a lot how I used to do mines. Particular that your are mostly neutrally buoyant. However I can't understand why on earth you will demonstrate both fin pivot and hover, with deflating your BCD and then touching the bottom! I now of course for the student to be able to meet the performance requirements they need to either use the power inflator or orally inflate the bcd. But they can either simulate it or do it on a decent. And please don't sit in the buddha position - it's not being in trim and just sending a bad signal! Both skill are very important, but they are way out of touch with reality and the if we look at where they are used - during the OWD program. If the OW course is done nice and slowly, by the time the student get the those skills they will have no problems performing them. Also why on earth do you blow bubbles during the regulator to snorkel exchange on the surface? It's not part of the performance requirements and you are on the surface and no point venting your air ways. Just my feedback and I have done my fair share of OW courses, where of course not more than maybe around 100 where done in neutral buoyancy.

      Thanks so much! Really glad you enjoyed it and thanks for your thoughts. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if all courses could be taught completely neutrally buoyant and for students to have total control from the minute they are under the surface… but it’s not realistic and that’s where instructor demonstrations come into play. This video is aimed towards DMs and instructors to help develop their skill performance and demonstrations for IDCs and continuing on to teach. With students, as you are of course aware, it’s about progression. It’s absolutely ok for students to start their fin pivot / hover from the bottom at the beginning if needed - ensuring you have the correct environment (sandy bottom Etc). For IDCs you cannot have any arm / finning movement during the hover therefore hovering in trim position can be tricky for many, Buddha ensures there’s no temptation to move and fin/arm allowing for completely breath control - and it’s fun! 😄 Students love to hover in different positions. It’s all about learning about breath control, positioning and balance which will lead to great trim positioning. * You are absolutely right - if the OW course is taught nice and slowly and you have minimal students they will nail it. And really all students should be frog kicking / back finning before even putting a tank on their back - but again realistically and sadly many instructors aren’t given this time. I have been very privileged to work in such an environment where we not only have the time to teach students but have the time to work with them to fine tune buoyancy control to enable them to carry out marine conservation work confidently and conservatively in trim position. * blowing bubbles snk/reg exchange - it’s all about creating good habits and muscle memory. Yes we don’t need to worry about lung over expansion at the surface. But again this is progression and confidence building for the student, building good habits so that whenever their reg is out UW that they remember such a vital thing to avoid serious injury. Hope this helps clarify! Delighted to see more instructors teaching neutrally buoyant. We are, at the end of the day, the role models for our students 🌞

    Great video! You're buoyancy is superb! I'm going to have to practice doing some of these skills boyant before teaching my students, lol. I just want to point out since you made this video skin (duck) diving has changed to removing snorkel before diving due to if a shallow water black out occurs people are known to take a breath as soon as their face hits the surface and if snorkel is in the mouth (black out victims have clamped down on snorkel and not spit it out) they will breath in water from the snorkel. I was trained and have taught the way shown but i was proved wrong by our newest instructor 😂. Enjoyed your video, keep up the good work!

    • @aoibheanndivepro1835
      @aoibheanndivepro1835 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Jonathan, thanks very much. Much appreciated. Regarding the weight belt (on a wing set up), it is easy enough to ditch on the surface - undo bcd strap, undo weight belt. If under the bcd strap and accidentally came loose you wouldn’t lose it. You do not want it coming off accidentally at depth. This is taught at technical level but as important at recreational. Just ensure to brief buddy during pre-dive safety check. Hope that helps.

    Question? on skill #5 when switching from snorkel to regulator why do you need to blow air while making the switch? I understand if you were at depth and switching from one reg to the other but why when you are at the surface when you are at the same atmosphere pressure. Just curious
