No, just connect all cables to the motherboard and that’s it. It works with msi mystic light, Signal RGB and some other rgb software

I cannot say for sure, i don’t know the z790 from gigabyte in reallife, only on pictures. I wasn‘t able to use the left and the right screw holes from the 360mm radiator. Only the 4 in the middle. But ultimately it worked and it’s firmly tightened. A lot of other people had problems and were not able to mount this radiator.

Das USB-C Kabel muss Thunderbolt unterstützen. USB-C ist nicht immer gleich USB-C, das ist das Problem. Der Anschluss selbst liefert in der Regel alle technischen Vorraussetzungen, da dieser an 4 PCI-Express Lanes angebunden ist. Das Kabel muss dann entsprechend auch die Technologie mitbringen. Oft erkennt man gar nicht welche Technik dahinter steckt. Thunderbolt 3 und 4 ist die schnellste Datenübertragungsmethode mit einem USB-C Kabel. Identifizierbar an dem Blitzsymbol auf dem Kabel (amzn.eu/d/hsUv0j1). Wenn kein Blitzsymbol drauf ist, ist es in der Regel nur USB 2 oder USB 3, verpackt in einem USB-C Kabel. Mit solch einem Kabel kannst du eine eGPU natürlich nicht betreiben, da es im Grunde nur ein veraltetes USB Kabel ist, mit einem modernen Anschluss. Solche Kabel werden zum Beispiel bei irgendwelchen technischen Produkten mitgeliefert, wo das USB-C Kabel nur aufladen muss. Zum Beispiel bei Tastaturen, Webcams oder ähnlichem. Für USB-C Dockingstations mit HDMI oder Displayportanachlüssen muss man zum Beispiel auch ein Thunderbolt Kabel haben.

Habe ein 1,5 Jahre altes LAptop für meien Sohn MSi Thin ihrgendwas, mit einer Laptop 3070 und intel i7 on board, lohnt sich da so ein externes System den überhaupt ? ich habe kp der jamert immer rum das alles zu langsam ist und ruckelt, also fortnight 60 fps geht garnicht z.B

@Tobizockt4368 Also meines Erachtens nach lohnt sich bei dem Laptop mit 'ner 3070 und einem i7 so etwas nicht. Es würde die gleiche oder gar schlechtere Leistung bei rauskommen. Hat dein Sohn sonst mal DLSS oder FSR aktiviert? In welcher Auflösung zockt er? Fortnite sollte in Full HD mit ner 3070 eigentlich locker weitaus mehr als 60FPS machen. Ist der Laptop am Strom angeschlossen? Im Akkubetrieb wird in der Regel die Leistung stark gedrosselt. Manchmal kann es auch sein, dass die Drosselung trotz Netzstrom dennoch bleibt. Mit was für einem Netzteil wird der Laptop betrieben? Ein 65Watt oder 125Watt Netzteil kann den Akku zwar laden, wird aber nicht die notwendige Leistung liefern. Das würde ich mal als erstes prüfen. Dazu würde ich in den Energieeinstellungen in Windows mal alles auf „Leistung“ stellen, auch im Akkubetrieb. Sollte das auch nicht funktionieren, kannst du mal in den Grafikkeinstellungen vom Spiel schauen, ob DLSS aktiviert ist und zur Not aktivieren und mal auf „Performance“ oder „Leistung“ stellen.

I haven’t seen a ROG Strix B650E-F in real, only on pictures, so i can not give you a 100% guarantee but i assume it would at least fit like in my case by using the middle screw holes.

Did you try fitting it and did it work?

@@ShihamIslam no I didn’t i bought a deepcool ls 750 zero dark instead didn’t want to risk it, because according to NZXT You can’t install a radiator thicker than 30mm in the NZXT H6 and the arctic is 38mm so i went with 27mm just to be safe. Feel free to ask me anything.

But ultimately it worked and it’s firmly tightened. So basically i assume that it should fit with your b650 motherboard because the 360mm radiator is 20mm narrower than the 280mm version. But i can not give you a 100% guarantee. I think also in 80-90% of all combinations it should fit.

Was für einen Laptop benutzt du? Ich kenne mich mit dem Omen Acceleator jetzt nicht aus, aber hast du mal die Omen und Thunderbolt Software komplett deinstalliert, alle Treiber deinstalliert und danach mal neu verbunden? Ich würde annehmen, dass die Software nicht zwangsläufig notwendig ist.

We are talking about 1mm space with the MEG X570 Unify. So basically i assume that there will be no problem with other motherboards but i also don’t know all motherboards. Ultimately i can say i had „actually“ no problems, i just wasn‘t able to use the left and right screw holes from the radiator. I haven‘t seen a b650 aorus elite ax v2 in real life yet, only pictures but I would assume that you will have no problems.

Hi Umi_2024, did i understand it correct? Your Laptop is a hp envy i7 10750h (10th gen) with an integrated RTX 2060? And then you tried a 4090 as egpu and you got 40-60fps at 4k, right?

@@Umi_2024 Okay i see! The problem is the limitation of the pci-express lanes to x4 instead of x16. That’s what i‘m trying to explain in the video as well. I haven’t tested a 4090 but a lot of other cards like 4080, 3080, 3060 and 2060 as egpu at 1080p. When you take a look into my game results at 12:00 , the average FPS at 1080p is always quite close to each other. At 4k it would be even closer and i think almost no difference. But okay, that answers not your question. If you have the chance to test it with a 3070 or 3080, you could try it and compare the results with a 4090 at 4k. I assume there will be no big difference. What in my opinion makes more sense is a 4060 Ti (16GB version, because of 4k) or a 4070. You can use DLSS 3.5 and Frame Generation with these cards. This will increase your fps. The 3000 or 2000 Series don’t not support DLSS 3.5 and Frame Generation. Since you have a 4090 you can try some dlss 3.5 and Frame generation settings to see the effect. I think i would go for a 4060 Ti (16GB) or 4070 because of DLSS 3.5 and FG. I think both cards will make no big difference used as egpu and bring you the performance you want by using DLSS and Frame Generation.

That was version 1.0. I don’t use it anymore since the recall of this version, but for the time i used it (with a 4080) i had no problems.

Yes it fits! The only problem was the motherboard which is a millimeter to big because of the decoration cover on the left side at the rear panel which touches the radiator. Hence i was only able to use the middle screw holes of the radiator. You will Not have such a problem with motherboards with a smaller cover.

Hi Ismael! Thank you! Yes! If you want to use an egpu like the „Razer Core X“ in the video, your Laptop just need a USB-C connection which supports Thunderbolt and that’s it! All newer laptops should have at least one usb-c thunderbolt connection. The HP Elitebook in the video has one and this model is already quite old, i think from 2018/2019. So newer models definitely have a connection because it has become more and more standard equipment in recent years. But to be 100% sure, it's better to check before you buy.

With an egpu connected or integrated graphics?

Hi robhewitt: Thanks for your comment! So actually no GPU used as an external GPU is sufficient for 4k gaming, because of the limitation of 4 pci express lanes. I would say it depends on what you want to do in 4k. Some games with with lower system requirements might be playable with this configuration but have low fps. If you want to play something like Cyberpunk 2077 in 4k and high settings, it won’t be possible with an egpu.

Hi TungNguyen, thank you for your comment! No, a 4080 would definately make no difference. You will pay for performance that you can not use. The main reason for the low FPS and performance is not the bottleneck with the CPU, it is the limitation to 4 PCIExpress lanes. If you would try a 4080 via a USB-C Module like in the video, your limitation is 4 lanes instead of 16 lanes. In the video the laptop has an i5 8250U CPU, so a really old one. And yes, your Laptop with an 12700H would definately have better results compared to my test laptop but would never be able to handle 4K with a 4080 as egpu. Your performance will be even higher with the integrated 3070Ti in your laptop than a 4080 as egpu. I tested my egpu setup with an HP ZBook Firefly (i7 1165G7 - 11th Gen) as well and compared it with a desktop system (5900X) but with a 1080Ti. It‘s not a 4080 but the difference from 4 lanes to 16 lanes is obvious. And i'm looking for thunderbolt 5 coming up next, so i hope it would be handle 4080, so i want to buy a Laptop with 14700HX or 15700HX (i'm really need a good CPU for my work) in future with RTX4050 or 4060 for a good price, would it be worth the waiting. Sorry for my bad english.

Thank you for your comment! Ah! there is a GPU mode in Cinebench 2024? I didn’t know that! That makes me curious! I will check that out! Regarding the 4080 and the Razer Core X, the solution is quite easy, i just took a PSU with enough 8 Pin cables 😄. You can basically replace the original PSU with another PSU in the Core X case. Sorry, i didn’t mention it in the video.

Correct - you use more bandwidth of the Thunderbolt port if you are not outputting the video signal to an external monitor. I'm not exactly sure how much, but definitely enough to make a difference in performance.

Hi, you mean an M.2 NVMe adapter instead of M.2 NGFF (GDC beast)? I don’t have such an adapter but it might be an interesting variant since it supports 4 lanes instead of 1. I’ll keep that in my mind for another video!

@@TheOnlyChilllionaire If i would use an expresscard adapter with my GDC module (v. 8.5c), i would get the same results like in the video because my GDC module is pcie 3.0 and limited to 1 pci-express lane. Newer GDC modules support pcie 4.0 and 4 lanes, like the variant with an NVMe connection type but that runs via Oculink port. It is acutally an adapter on an adapter. I think express card won’t work with the newer module type because there is no other connection method but oculink and the expresscard technology is quite old. Since i have not tested this variant yet, i will keep it in my mind for another video! 👍

That sounds weird! My temps in idle around 28-35. In gaming 45-58. It rarely goes above 60 degrees. So actually really good and never too loud. I use the preset fan configuration "Performance" of the CAM app.

At least not visible. I have never measured it. Maybe you would measure 1mm…

Hi IronTom, nein, das funktioniert nicht. Eben genau aus dem Grund weil du einen Grafikchip dazwischen brauchst. Von der M.2 Schnittstelle zum Monitor wäre in deinem Gedanke keine Grafikkarte, die aber zur Bilddarstellung benötigt wird. Du würdest quasi nur die „nackte“ m.2 Schnittstelle Monitor anschließen, der damit aber nichts anfangen kann.

Das Problem ist nur, dass man zuerst den Treiber installieren müsste und einstellen muss, dass die externe Grafikkarte zur Bilddarstellung verwendet werden soll, wofür man wiederum erstmal ein Bild von dem internen Chip braucht. Bist du denn sicher, dass der interne Chip kaputt ist? Ist es eine richtige interne Grafikkarte? Denn bei den meisten Notebooks ist die Grafikeinheit eine Teilfunktion des Prozessors selbst und würde daher nicht unabhängig kaputt gehen. Es wäre dann eher der ganze Prozessor defekt.

@@Stephan-sPCCorner Ja es ist die Karte laut dem Techniker. Es steckt eine GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 darin Hättest du dann eine Lösung für mich? Habe gestern sehr viel über das Thema nachgelesen habe auch einige Videos geschaut aber bin immer auf das selbe Problem gestoßen was du auch gerade geschrieben hast mit dem Treiber !!

Hmm, verstehe. Dann ist es wirklich schwierig. Dann wäre die einzige Möglichkeit die mobile Grafikkarte auszuwechseln. Quasi wie bei einem Desktop PC. Wenn da die Grafikkarte kaputt ist und die CPU keine integrierte Grafikeinheit besitzt, muss man eine neue Grafikkarte einbauen, um wieder ein Bild zu kriegen. Was für eine CPU ist denn im Laptop verbaut? Evtl hat die CPU eine integrierte Grafikeinheit und man muss dem System nur irgendwie mitteilen, dass von dort das Bild erzeugt werden soll. Die meisten mobilen CPUs von Intel haben in Laptops neben der mobilen Grafikkarte auch eine Grafikfunktion. Meine Idee wäre, die defekte mobile GTX1060 einmal auszubauen und dann das System einzuschalten. Evtl würde das schon reichen und das System springt auf die CPU als Grafikeinheit, weil es keine verbaute Grafikkarte mehr findet. Unter Umständen müsste man vielleicht auch einen BIOS reset machen, da weiß ich allerdings nicht wie man das bei abgeschalteten Laptops erzeugt. Im Grunde muss man nur die BIOS Batterie für 1-2 Minuten entfernen und wieder einbauen.

I had no problems so far but i changed already back to cable connection directly. I‘d rather not take the risk that my card is melting too 😅.

Klingt interessant! Habe ich selbst noch nicht getestet, berichte gerne mal, wenn du es testen konntest! Laut offiziellen Infos kann die letzte Version damit auch PCIE 3.0 und damit laufen unter Umständen auch Nvidia Karten ab der 2000er Serie. Das geht mit den alten egpu Modulen leider nicht.

Yes i know 😅… My original plan was a purple/black build but then i decided to make it white/black and i had no other wires at this time. Later i changed it into white but did not produce a seperate video only for wire change.
