How My Perfectionism Is Ruining Gaming For Me
For whatever reason, whenever I screw up in a videogame, I always get too worked up over it. Regardless of the game, I can't help myself but to get angry and constantly repeat a level until everything goes perfectly. Unfortunately I carry this attitude across other things in my life, but I'm continuing to work through these issues as time goes on.

Why The Ouya Mattered
มุมมอง 1.4K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's been over a decade since the Ouya came and went, and it's still unbelievable the Kickstarter project went as far as it did. However, what I feel most people are forgetting about the Ouya is the current gaming landscape surrounding it. The Ouya represented the rise of indie gaming, where many gamers were wanting to play these games on their consoles and PCs, and the Kickstarter brought some...

The Problem With Game Reviews
มุมมอง 836ปีที่แล้ว
The most common complaint you see within gaming circles is about game reviews. So many times, we came across a review where we couldn't understand why they came up with the points that they did. In this video, with the help of some professional game reviewers, I go over why reviewing games is so difficult, and why the internet makes reviewing even more difficult. Now if you'll excuse me, I now ...
I Built A Steam Machine In 2023
มุมมอง 399Kปีที่แล้ว
Back in 2014, Valve started their push to make PC gaming more accessible with Steam Machines. Although they weren't successful, they continued their development of the idea, which ultimately lead to the Steam Deck. Although the Steam Deck is a great handheld device, you might run into issues with running modern AAA titles. 00:00 - Intro 01:22 - History of Steam Machines 03:34 - Setup & Componen...

Why The Metaverse Will Not Take Off
มุมมอง 198ปีที่แล้ว
The metaverse seems to be the new trend in technology nowadays, where many are hoping to finally live within the virtual world. Companies like Meta (Facebook) have been pushing the concept heavily, with mixed results. Despite the massive push, I have my doubts that it'll gain traction from mainstream audiences, and here's a video explaining why. Please subscribe to the channel if you're interes...
Nintendo Switch: The Fall and Rise of Nintendo Part 3
มุมมอง 194ปีที่แล้ว
The Nintendo Switch is perhaps Nintendo's best console ever, but there was a lot of work to get to that point. In the third and final part of this series, I talk about how Nintendo learned from their mistakes with the Wii U and worked to make the Switch the great console/handheld as it is. However, there are some things Nintendo needs to look out for if they want to continue with this success. ...
Wii U: The Fall And Rise of Nintendo Part 2

The Wii U has become a punchline in and of itself. Most people don't look fondly on the system nowadays, and especially back then, but how did Nintendo go from their most successful console ever to their least successful essentially overnight? Nintendo Wii: The Fall And Rise of Nintendo Part 1
มุมมอง 2562 ปีที่แล้ว
The Nintendo Wii was a massive departure from Nintendo's other consoles. It was mostly a play out of desperation, but it worked out well in Nintendo's favor...at least in the beginning. This video will go into details about the Wii, why it succeeded, and what were the overall problems that would give Nintendo issues with their later consoles. Check out my previous video on the GameCube: th-cam....
I write Libreoffice docs with Steam OS,is my Daily Driver.
Yeah I’ll stay with windows. Not giving up ray tracing.
I've come to realize that perfection is just a brain pattern that has been established to predict satisfaction (yet it doesn't take into account the potential loss of enjoyment on the way). For me this process is most sensitive when I approach something new, when the opportunity to establish a pattern of perfection is as pure as possible. Like starting a new gaming account for instance and wiping the slate clean. But the real danger is that it goes beyond gaming and affects parts of your everyday life as well. What helped me personally was to write a journal about my impulses and my anxiety related to perfection. By doing this I realized I had unlearned lots of these behaviours over the years without thinking about them really. This gave me lots of strength in overcoming the fear of not being able to perfect something. All you need is enough time and focus and the brain will eventually establish new healthy patterns that are not reliant on perfection. When you reach that point gaming can even become a great opportunity to beat perfection.
2:46 bro what an insult to the steam deck. A ps4 is more accurate
I have a big pc (not the hardware but the case). It is a nvidia gtx 1650, It cant run chimeraOS but It runs batocera for emulation which runs sweet! and when I want pc games I just plug a keyboard and change the boot to my windows ssd and it launches steam automatically in big picture so there you go!!
I think it you just showed us that if someone really wants a modern steam machine, they should just get a steam deck as that is more of a plug-in play pc console
You dont need to pay for multiplayer if you cant play multi-player. That bein said idc and dont play online multi-player.
You set 80°C limit for a CPU that's meant to run at 95°, every guide tells you it's meant to run at 95°, every tester read it to you from their AMD notes during reviews, people discussed it in the forums...
how to do get the game from steam which i already bought, then play the game without ever installing steam , so i can actually own it like buying a gaming cd? Also how do i extact the game from a physically bought cd to put the game anywhere like in hard drive or cloud and can play it anywhere without the actual cd?
You have to use steam if you bought game on it. Newel said once that they'll relese exe files of every game only if US court force them to do that or for some reason valve will close down.
By "high quality first party exclusives" he means PS4 re-releases, Concord and Dustborne 💀I'll stick with Gamepass, thanks.
I like how the goal was to sell console players on PC, then spent the video showing them their own nightmares of why they don't go with PC.
PC has cheating issue big time
How do you buy so many games without being able to play them
Used parts is the opposite of gambling.
If you are going to spend 1500, it's cheaper to get a console, or buy xcloud for a year
Steam deck has a powerful laptop processor, the GPU die is just smaller than your supermassive dedicated graphics card
This is not true, steam os is a stable platform, doesn't change the software configuration. Also, Steam has builtin stable dependencies (so it's the same). It's basically a builtin rootfs.
I know this video is a year old, but FYI the AMD 7000X series CPUs are designed to hit 95C under load. This happens even with large liquid coolers. So, seeing that number is expected behavior.
a year later, and you should honestly revisit this with bazzite
@@bearwynn At this point, I'm more interested in working on more historical/editorial videos, but maybe someday I'll go back into more tech projects like this.
holy shit, scott the woz
One year later, hows the backlog going on 😂
@@rustytanks gotten worse lol
0:53 that one didn't age well (Pizza Tower is no longer PC exclusive)
This is not true chimera works fine with both intel and nvidia graphics cards you just need to know where to look for what you have
Tom! This was both entertaining and informative! Great Job!
Hey, your upload schedule is better than mine! And yeah with that Baldur's Gate thing, it's less that any concept is bad in and of itself and more that some games are just better at pulling them off.
Proton is amazing and hopefully it will push for more native linux compatibility, as relying fully on it is a double edged sword.
Everything you said about perfection in this video are things I can honestly relate to! For me everything just needs to be perfect even the small stuff. After realizing how bad my obsession with perfection was a few months ago I’ve learned it’s best to just take things at my own pace and have fun with it instead of stressing out about the little little stuff. Good job on the video Tom you did great! 👍
you did not need a controller did you not know that your xbox controllers or ps5 controller work ? and i use wired for those . also i use ps5 controller for rpg and story single player games and shooters i use my xbox controller and i use my fight stick and hitbox for fighters you basscily could off save money ? who told you that console controllers dont work heck when i emulate Nintendo games i use switch joy con . also there still switch emulator i use ryujinxs emulator was better than yuzu most games work better and compatible with that
(after watching whole video) hey, I have autism too! I feel the pain of communication not being what it was in your head..... I too had to rid myself of the feeling of "everything has to be perfect" was a process, but a freeing one!!!! Mistakes make us human, inperfection is beautiful, and nothing is forever so have a good time!
(Before watching whole video) ya, I love achievement hunting, but if it is a game I don't wanna 100%, I don't. Tho ya I've been the same way in the past, mess up? REDOOOOOOOOO!
fantastic pacing great video
I just want a console like experience, console like price, without the subscriptions of a console. Whoever makes and sells that can have my money. Maybe in a couple years mini gaming pc's will be strong enough and have something like steam preinstalled as the only os.
PSP Was a Success! PS Vita is The ones That Fails!
TLDW would have to be the rise in power of the mighty PCMR. All hail.
What's the difference between running Chimera vs just running Ubuntu with Steam in big picture mode?
@@platypuspracticus2 Chimera provides a UX that's usable with a controller on startup, while Ubuntu requires you to set up Steam to start in Big Picture Mode each time. You can also do this with Windows if you want better compatibility with all games.
This is a software nightmare. You don't need all this stuff to play games.
Tbh this is very overbuilt, way above what's necessary to rival ps5/xbone console performance, far from being in danger of going obsolete in a matter of years, especially with how rarely top-end games come out these days. Also water based cooling doesn't actually outperform air-cooling these days.
Ridiculous that steam doesn’t make their OS available without going through a third party like chimera
this video is giving bringus stdios vibe
Also another Comment :-) you don't really need it to be a Single Player console. i use Linux and steam, also not playing games that require anticheat too. But still there are sooo much Multiplayer/coop games that daoes not neet anticheat. i play every weekend with my brother over internet coop games. they change over time of course.. there are plenty of them.
Oh, i thought gamepass worked for a long time? if yoiu use the Browser? so iam not a gamepass guy, i mainly use steam on Linux.
Rogue Squadron 2 usually has to be run on single core to stop the crashes.
What a world it would have been if only PSP had two analogues and better games
I would say the PSP was a success it was the vita that really did not leave up to the expectation's for a next gen handheld
If you want a steam machine on the cheap just buy a refurbished 64gb steam deck and keep it hooked up to your TV. Cant get a better deal than this. It's substantially more powerful than the switch.
When every console before the ps4/xbox one generation is playable on most hardware at this point definitely don't waste money on consoles lol. Especially since like you said all the newer "console exclusives" are being put on steam or microsofts game store for windows. SteamOS and its counterparts making it more available to all hardware makes said emulators even easier to play if you're on lower end hardware.
3ds and ds hate was unnecessary they are both great just Nintendo is mostly a 1st party going system
Have you take a look on Bazzite?
This is so cool, how does your tv respond to the GPU? I tried hooking up a new tv with hdmi2.1 and all the new bells and whistles to my pc and I get a lot of screen detection issues when playing games.
@@chadmann132 it responded fine. No issues on that end. Depending on your TV or monitor, sometimes it has trouble showing the image if you're booting in UEFI mode. You might want to go into legacy mode in the BIOS if your display is having problems showing the image. I had to do that for my computer with these Samsung monitors.
Honestly, for those who want to play more in the living room via streaming, I recommend "Moonlight/Sunshine." Just look for an old laptop with a good internet connection and set it up. You don't need the best specs to play. In my case, I use an old desktop PC to stream my setup, which has an i3-3220 connected to a smart tv 4k with a adapter vga to hdmi 1080P. My official setup specs are: R9 390 8 GB, R5 3600, 16 GB RAM, and a B450m gaming motherboard. I can play Doom Eternal at 65 FPS with max settings if I want to. The gaming and graphics on PC can sometimes be absurd. just in the case if you want to play on 4K or 2K of resolution,
