Fully modified and upgraded Lenco 75. cartridge is a Denon DL103. Tonearm is basically a Lenco 75/78 tonearm, modified using a carbon fiber wand with ball bearing races which replaces the v-blocks and knife-edge bearing

After disassembly clean wheel, axle, washers and bushing with IPA. To prevent damage or bending the wheel, DO NOT press on any part of the wheel other than the reinforced part near/at the center. I made a tool for that purpose and for servicing the tonearm pillar bearings. After re-assembling, adjust for minimum play while ensuring free and smooth wheel spin.

The two have different resonant frequencies, the copper mat is high, whereas the platter is lower. So one suppresses the resonant frequency in the other.
Will that work with my Lenco?
To make it work on the Lenco chassis with a 9” arm, a bigger hole need to be cut. This is best used on the plinth mounted behind the top plate (the top plate rotated 90° clockwise. Or used with a 12” arm

Definitely! The better the cartridge, the better it sounds. But this budget Audio Technica AT95E is quite a performer for its price.Not my turntable though, making for a friend

Without a doubt, SPH's bearings and mats for Lenco is in it's own class! That's what I use myself. Haven't tried his tonearm yet, but I don't doubt it is as great as his bearings and mats.

The wand is changed to a carbon fiber wand. The pillar is the stock Lenco pillar, if you have observed closely.

I tested it with the copper mat. The combo is amazing. It bested my TD124 with my upgraded bearing and upgraded top platter… convincingly!

Yes, it's the AT95E. It's a really good budget cart.
@@sph7674 L78s are NOT budget turntables. Anything less than a nude stylus cartridge is underselling this deck. it's high end moving magnet/entry level moving coil territory.
I agree that they are not exactly “budget” in terms of performance. They have the potential to be great turntables with the right upgrades and mods. This unit is my customer’s. I fit in whatever carts or upgrades my customers want. But I wouldn’t consider the AT95E as crap although they are budget priced. They perform well for their asking price. Everyone has their own budget and preferences. On my own Thorens TD124, Garrard 401 and modified Lenco I use a modified Hana SL and Denon DL103

Wow, these are masterpieces, i have 1L75 and 2 L78s lencos to refresh....
With proper upgrades and mods, the Lenco heavy platter turntables have great potential to go head-to-head with £5-6k modern turntables. Their performance/price ratio is perhaps the one of the highest (if not the highest). The weak links of the Lenco are the bearing, tonearm and plinth.

Mine has the original bearing and I serviced it 6 years ago. W&F measure 0.05%/0.02% so the standard bearing is still excellent by any measure :-). Most of the noise from a 401 is from the motor coupling via idler drive, not from the main bearing imho...

A fully serviced stock Lenco performs pretty well and sounds good. But it still does not come to the level of a Garrard 301/401 or a TD124. Only when it is fully modified and upgraded will it compete head-to-head with the Garrards and TD124. Tonearm is a Lenco 75/78 tonearm modified as mentioned in the description. No catch there. Basically what you hear is what was done as described and shown in the video. With a €50 cartridge the turntable sounds wonderful. The cart sounds like it cost much more than €50.
