Carbonear Fires Part One 1929
April 1929 was one of two great fires that engulfed Water Street, Carbonear, Newfoundland.
This video looks back at the first fire, that not only endangered businesses and homes on Water Street but threatened the entire town of Carbonear.
There was a large presence of bravery, loss and sorrow. But thankfully, everyone was accounted for.
This is part-one with part-two already in production and to be released as soon it is available.
If you had parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts or neighbours that endured this tragedy, leave a comment, memory or thought that they may have shared with you of the event.
Please share the video with others and would you consider subscribing to my channel to further postings?
Thanks for watching,
Dave

This is Conception Harbour, Conception Bay, Newfoundland. I have driven the highway through this town many times, but never left the highway to drive down Corporal Jamie Murphy Memorial Drive. This video is about a few beautiful locations that I visited in just a couple of days on the Great Northern Peninsula, Newfoundland. There's so, so many places time didn't permit me to see. If you haven't been to Newfoundland, please don't do what some others have previously done; a plan to see all of Newfoundland in five days. That is not possible. I can't stop going back to visit Bay de Verde and Grate's Cove on Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula. This visit, I meet the two ladies running Susie's Post Variety Store in Grate's Cove. I just stopped in for ice cream and stayed chatting with the girls so long, the treats started melting. Give a thumps up if you watched 'til the end. Thanks for watching.

Very informative video as usual. At the old Academy in Carbonear, all students were divided into one of four "houses" or groups named after prominent Carbonear residents. The purpose was to earn points for your house during sports day etc. One house was Boyle house named after Robert William Boyle. At least he had some recognition within his home town.

I was in the Port Blandford area last Sept for a wedding. The bride is from Canning's Cove so I slipped away to see the community and return without anyone noticing. It was my first time in that part of Bonavista Bay. I had an uncle from Bunyan's Cove (family name Martin). So I got a fast look around at some communities that I only have heard of. I hope the cemetery shot bought pleasant memories of your grandparents. Thanks for watching.
