The Electrical Tape Method for Cardboard Filament Spools - 3D Printing
You may have already heard, but the Bambulab AMS unit doesn't play well with cardboard spools, from slipping problems to dust inside the unit, while cardboard spools are becoming more and more popular. It's not an ideal situation, and so to overcome that, I wrap the edges of spools with electrical tape.
I have tried other methods like printing the rings for the edges, and I found it finicky, and I didn't like having to wait to print more rings.
Electrical tape has been quick & easy to implement, lasts as long as the roll lasts, and has caused me no problems while printing with the AMS.

How to Add Text to Surface in Fusion360 | Flat, Curved, Sphere, Irregular

These same concepts can be applied for an image or logo (just import an svg image in your sketch, then use that profile for embossing/debossing). I'm not an expert, this is just how I do it and hopefully this can be helpful to you too! Timestamps: 0:00 - Intro 0:26 - Flat surfac...

    You could try tape and the the rings. The rings won't slip, as the tape keeps it in place, and they're more stable than just the tape.

    Genius. Thanks, you saved my bacon! edit: What also helped immensely, at least for me, was chucking in a couple of electrical tape rolls on either side of the cardboard spool. Doing this braces the cardboard spool in place, against the adjacent spools, and stops the cardboard from jumping and skewing to the side and jamming itself against the AMS motor.

    congrats on your purchase. i was tempted to get the pink one but ended up choosing yellow since my first GameBoy was the Dandelion GameBoy Color curious on your thoughts on the hard case? it looks sturdy enough but i’ve had bad luck with acrylic cases scuffing and damaging the shell/screen of my devices if they’re chucked in a backpack when i’m traveling and on a bike or lightly running. any thoughts would be appreciated!

    • @colinportman
      @colinportman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have had a pocket since launch and the hard case has kept my pocket very safe in bags. It is more for display but it is also actually designed very well for protecting the device. Interestingly few people have commented on some specifics of the hard case design. It has four raised plastic pins on the inside that slot into the back of the pockets four corresponding slots. There are also four small raised ridges on the screen side of the case that stop the device bumping on the front. So basically 99% of the device cannot touch any of the plastic case even if you were to shake it violently and thus the device cannot be scratched or damaged. The only flaw is the latch mechanism to open and close is relatively weak. So a drop from any waist height would likely cause the case to open and the device would fall out. Hence it wouldn't be my choice for real protection on the go but it is fine for someone who looks after things and isn't clumsy. On a side note any 3DS XL case would likely fit I have several fabric ones that are nice and snug.

    • @the3dbunny
      @the3dbunny 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was very pleasantly surprised that once in the case, and violently shaked, it doesn’t even jiggle. At first I didn’t really understand how to easily open and close it, but I’ve since figured it out and I quite like it. I don’t have a case like this for any of my devices and I love it. For display and for travel.

    Your explanation in this video is astounding! As much as I love embossing stuff, I'm having a bit of a problem with one particular project. What's the best method of embossing a conical shape without having the text distorted or looking like a frowny face? I'm making a custom Bowling Ball Holder that is a cylinder 20mm thick with a -25˚ draft from base to outside surface and I want to put someone's name wrapped around the whole thing but the only method I've found to make it work is to draft every single letter and hole within each letter (like the letter o) individually after the emboss has been done and the initial draft operation is complete.

    • @gijsjonkheer9863
      @gijsjonkheer9863 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you put the text on a circular path with the center on the top of the cone, your text will be distorted in such a way that the emboss distorts it back to what you are looking for. This video uses this trick for example: th-cam.com/video/aRL9OmR70R4/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Murxs1st

    I was able to emboss on to the sphere. You have to create a cylinder over the sphere, emboss on the cylinder, go back to when you extruded the cylinder and change it to intersect then hide the cylinder.
