The GM's Tower: What Are My Favorite Games and How Do I Decide?

UPDATE: When I was discussing The One Ring, I got sidetracked (my dog walked into the room and wanted on my lap…good reason to be distracted). So I did not include the details I intended. Here they are: - The One Ring by Free League has a very limited Bestiary - The One Ring by Free League has a limited number of adventures/supplements so far (though it’s improving) - Both of these are mitigate...

Eveything starts to getting more, and more sense. Thanks.
This series it is so helpfull. Thank you for make it!
Happy you’re finding it helpful!
Love the videos!
Thanks!
14:30 This is what I always tell new players of DG at my table. A "weak" character is much more engaging in a horror game, and encourages more creative roleplay. Someone with incredible stats, full tactical gear, and a 70 in Firearms will always just resort to shooting the problem. When you play an FBI agent, who is a single mother, who's main concern is coming home safely to her kids; the horror becomes much more visceral and dangerous.
Exactly. You get it.
23:25 Technically written correctly, "The **average** of STR plus CON, rounded up." The average is fhe same as dividing by 2.
Very nice handling of a section where i did not understand the nuance Thank you so much!
Thanks!
This is super helpful! I'm working through all the videos on the subject now. Thank you!
how do you role play the sanity loss or the affect when it is produced to a bond? can you give me some examples please?! - New Handler here and my players are new to the setting so i want to give them some guidelines
I am not sure I understand the question? In the moment, I always give the players a fight, freeze, or flee option and they choose which one they want to do. Initially, they all want to choose the fight option until I remind them that fighting in this case means fighting and killing everyone around you whether they are your friends or not. The only way to stop it is for someone else to take you out or knock you unconscious or something like that. And then later we work out the long-term psychological effects. I’ve had some pretty terrible things happened to some of my characters bonds, but I’ve never use the insanity rules. I just narrated it. Clearly they would deal with their own sanity issues, but I just write the story in my head and tell it to them. I hope that’s what you’re asking. But if not, let me know.
I rather liked Grub in Riddermound. Maybe he should be a player character given the expansion of PC kin in the Bestiary.
Ohh, greenbox generator was fun!
I know, I thought that was really cool when I found it myself
The Keeper that invited me let me be a Dunwhich Horror type character who’s father was secret yog sothoth and one of the reason why they can cast spells.
Nice presentation, especially love the dry sense of humor. And your cartoon examples are very funny in their context. I've pointed my new agents to this how to series. Hopefully your knowledge can rub off on them, or at least give them a few laughs. Thanks!
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words!
I love the scenic images you used through this session. Very atmospheric.
Thanks! If you want to generate them yourself, they’re really easy. I used the Bing AI text to image generator. 15 free images a day!
Try to target Characters with T using this module but for some reason the HP didn't deacrese then roll for attack and then for damage. May be u know how to fix this?
After you roll to hit and damage, if you will right click in the chat window, you will get the option to apply the damage (and I think it will ask you if it should subtract armor or not). Just make sure the token is targeted or at least highlighted.
@@TheGMsTower-el3px Thank u very much)
Really appreciate the quality of information in your videos! Thank you! Looking forward to finding a place to play my first game!!
Thank you!
Great maps
The maps aren’t mine. I forget the company but it should be on the battle map itself. You can buy 10,000 of their Maps for about $50. Those are the maps that I use. And I agree, they are really fantastic.
I Appreciate this video. I just starting playing this solo on foundry VTT and really like the combat tracker and the crpg style combat UI you showed specifically. Dragonbane is a really great system and I really like how they integrated this into Foundry VTT.
Glad it helped!
The map of Eriador with the hex grid is a great idea which I think I will steal. Thanks 😀
You’re welcome!
Question... Is it possible to finalize damage to monsters at the end of the round of combat? In other words... effects of damage given to the monster is revealed to the party as a whole? Aren't the bow users firing simultaneously with the front line?
If you want to. Traditionally damage will be dealt per character if in the same stance. Ie Forward, Open, Defensive, Rearward. Thematically you could say attacking initiative is handled as to the caution of the attacker with forward being those rushing into engage the enemy to rearward cautiously lining up the best shot. The only time that changes is as combat begins with opening volleys taking place before close combat.
Yes, theoretically all damage occurs roughly at the same time. But of course, if you kill an opponent before they get to attack, then they don’t get an attack before they die. As far as the effects of damage, you should be able to write click in the chat window and apply the damage and everyone should see that damage applied.
I would love to join for at least a few sessions... just to get more familiar with the system. Even if just to observe, if you think it would impact your gameplay.
Ordered a few items. Considering a no/low magic campaign based on LOTR. Thank you.
You need to check out Fantasy Grounds. And if you trace this map out in DungeonDraft it will add Line of Sight and it won't matter what vtt you use, it will work with Foundry too.
There is a source for additional cultures? Where are those found?
They are on DriveThruRPG
Nice! Looking forward for more Pendragon content!
May end up having to hold off on it a little bit. There’s some things that are “coming soon“ that I want before I run it. So I might have to wait until the game master guide is out.
Oh ok. That makes sense. Looking forward to see what you got in mind though. @TheGMsTower-el3px
It’s okay the undead was immediately beheaded, you’re figuring out the system. You’re probably meant to have multiple enemies in combat. Always gotta keep in mind that numbers translate directly and naturally to danger.
You’re right! Tonight I tried three wolves against them and had similar results. I told them in their next fight they would be fighting no less than 75 skeletons simultaneously :-)
Another great episode. Great fun fight. 😊💪🏻
Thanks! I’m sure as we move forward and people become more familiar with the system, we will get better at these things. Still, I thought for a first combat it went pretty well.
There is no setting developed. The focus is giving adventure sites. The thirdparty (only Swedish) are remaking the old Ereb Altor setting for the old Dragonbane. (Drakar och Demoner.) And there are now loads of extremely high quality third parties now. It was when Dragonbane Expert came they started to develop more their own version. Magic World is what Dragonbane originally was based on in the early 80s
Thanks for the insight! That must’ve been what they were talking about when I saw the guy online saying he had spoken to people at Gen Con
Randomly found your video on youtube. Barrowmaze is great and his other three mega dungeons are all excellent. Greg the author of Barrowmaze released his OSR RPG Dragonslayer last year. It is a D&D styke game that uses the core rules of Basic/Expert D&D with the best parts of 1e AD&D (races..classes..spells etc). Very simular to OSE.
Thanks! Yes, I am familiar with Greg’s game and have even talked with him about it. It is an excellent game and I’m eager to play it someday if it gets incorporated into a VTT (preferably Foundry or Roll20).
@@ad3673 ya i seen that when i got farther in to your video lol. Definitely check it out...very fun. Only downside is the $$ is we bit high IMHO but worth it.
Finally! Gonna be great fun listening to it tonight....😊🎉🍾
Thanks, i nice Session 0!
Thanks!
Twin cities shoutout
What’s funny is that most people seem to be from the Minnesota area that I play with :-). That is not intentional. It just worked out that way. But some of the best players I have played with come from that area. Must be something in the water!
Great stuff 😊👍🏻
Thanks 😀
great work and session !
Thanks! We're still figuring the system out, so there will be refinements/improvements along the way. I appreciate the encouragement!
Great job making this!
Thanks!
Cool
Hey thanks for making this! I found it very informative. Going to check out the next episodes soon. Excited to see one titled “behind the lore master screen” as I am a LM
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for making me realize I've been doing the opossed tests wrong :D, I thought the lower roll always wins.
@@jack02krauser yes, that’s a bit of an unusual rule. But a good one, I think. I believe Pendragon uses the same rule. It’s counter intuitive until you get your brain around it.
@@TheGMsTower-el3px I am developing a digital tool to help me remember this kinds of things.
I really enjoyed listening to this! 😄
Thanks! We’re excited to play this campaign! Appreciate the encouraging words!
I want to play this game! Great video!
You should!
This was a lot of fun to listen to. Please keep making Delta Green content!
For Foundry the best current system is OSE to convert into Dragonslayer RPG ruleset. I'm almost complete in the change using Highfell as campaign. I also use Miro for player mapping and rules reminder/pictures etc. Miro helps with not relying so much on Foundry functions/modules.
I really appreciate that. That means a lot to me. I really enjoy your videos and thank you for such kind words! I admit, I was surprised at how deadly Riddermound turned out being. The guys are a little more seasoned now, but they still have to be careful.
Great video! I'm running this for my Pastor and his kids and my kids. We just started last week and after the intro I gave them a couple of "Sites" to choose from to check out. They chose The Riddermound as well. I've run that one several times as a one-shot demo of the game... so my prep work for next week is easy! lol
You mention a previous Delta Green campaign, but I don't see it on the main DM's Tower youtube page. Is this on another site somewhere?
I removed it. Not sure if I’ll put it back up. It has some awfully dark content.
@@TheGMsTower-el3px I see, thanks for taking the time to reply!
I went ahead and reposted everything so you should be able to see it now.
@@TheGMsTower-el3px Ok, thanks! I've watched quite a few Delta Green actual plays, I'm interested to see how your group handles it. Dark content doesn't bother me, at least not when I know what I'm getting myself into beforehand. :)
Where did you get that campus "Points of Interest" map from?
All of the maps come from the Arkham supplement for 7e available on Roll20
@@TheGMsTower-el3px I actually own a hard copy of that and didn't realize it was in there. Planning on running this scenario soon and just seeing how your players tackled it is a great help to a beginner GM. Thanks!
"Do you see this finger on the end of my hand?" Great stuff.
Thanks very much! It’s really encouraging when people say things like this. Really appreciate the kind words!
Veteran is actually a really good Heroic Ability. Say the fighter draws a 10 initiative card. Instead of leaving the next initiative round up to chance, the fighter can hold on to that 10 and pretty much go first (If he wants) every round. Also, say he keeps his high initiative and then decides a healer needs to go first to heal someone, he can then trade his high initiative. I think it is actually one of the best abilities. Love watching your play BTW.
Have been using foundry for a couple years, dnd, pathfinder and a few other one shot games. Really nice how to on these videos about setting a game like this up.
Thank you for the kind comment. I really enjoyed doing these and and I’m glad they are benefiting you!
Thanks
More Call of Cthulhu, yes please!
Thanks. This is a great way to review the rules when I can’t sit down and read the book.
