@flippingcarsrepairs thanks having a look it looks like I'm gonna have to do what you did in the video and I only just replaced the gear linkage cable the weekend and clutch repair last month 🤦‍♂️ it's never ending

O ce fitted it will need calibration then it will be in the right gear

@@roontunes ah just thought of something else is there no flywheel plate underneath that could be stopping the gearbox

@@flippingcarsrepairs thanks for the reply. The electric cables are still attached but that shouldnt stop the transmission casing from parting from the starter bolting plate. The starter should be staying where it is with the cables attached or disconnected. Just wondering if the starter bolting bracket and the transmission face are lightly stuck due to mild corrosion ?

@roontunes could be possible as gearboxes do get stuck may be a gentle persuasion and a bit of penetrating fluid may do the trick

i tried leaving the starter in my 2002 diesel clio when i was doing the clutch.( mainly because it wouldn't move even when the bolts were out--everything was white n furry wiv corrosion) the gearbox came out about half an inch then jammed. wouldn't come further off and wouldn't go back on. i think the gearbox was hanging on the snout of the starter. I was quoted £830 to have it done n while i was grovelling about like a geriatric slug buggering about wiv gearbox jack , hammer n crowbar trying to shift the starter it didn't seem a bad price! Now i've got the starter out everything is looking much brighter!!!! Must say the haynes manual was worth its weight in gold! the only reason i got the diesel was the £35 road tax but what a pain the clutch is!!!
