    I had a really weird experience regarding this topic. My son had an extreme interest in mushrooms until the day that I brought him to a "Special Exhibition on Mushrooms by the Mushroom Society" that was crowded with people interested in mushrooms and experts talking about it to the crowd. From 100% to 0%, it just stopped. Again, with Minecraft. A very intense interest, but then my kid met another kid that was really into playing Minecraft (the first that shared the interest and was allowed to play it), and after that kid talked about it all evening long, our kid declared shortly afterwards, it is not interested in Minecraft anymore. I find it really hard to understand. I expected my kid to be happy about really being able to connect to someone who is also into his special interest.

    I really appreciate this series. I had a hard time finding videos that would be appropriate to introduce autism for the people around me. The conversational tone brought with professionalism in a calming ambiance, love it. Side note: As a future subject, I think creating a conversation dedicated on the innerworkings of what is autism could contribute a lot of people. As we all know, many are still new at grasping what autism is today. I would definitely add it to the playlist I created for the people around me. After much research, I haven't found the right video yet ;).

    I know we're not 'supposed' to think this way but I struggle with most people IRL because everyone seems emotionally uneducated. I have dang ol' alexithymia constantly and how is it that it seems like ME of all people is picking up on emotional realities that I can see 3 or 4 allistics all seemingly miss while they beat up on that week's whipping boy, during the designated work gossiping time, who has violated some unspoken social rule or looked less sexually attractive than the NTs require of everyone for the baseline standard of *gasp* leaving your own house.

    Hmm, weird how, as soon as you needed a bunch of tech people in your office, suits and jackets are no longer the norm, eh? (I work in IT and it's a point of pride that 'my people' don't subscribe to such hollow authority worship personally)

    Oh my GOD I hate it when I sorta wake up in the middle of the night b/c the cat jumped into the floor or whatever. That alone would be OK, but then if I either have a strong thought (like "Wait, what time is it???" or a second smaller noise that I normally would have slept through happens, like a rustle or wind blows or something, BAM I'm bolt awake now for at least 35m minimum and there is zero chance I'm getting back into the whole 'shut down' cycle again until I feel exhausted. So many of my days have been ruined by random events like this, and I can never believe we're just expected to get to work every day on time, work hard, all that other BS. I was fired from my first job for not getting in on time and I remember even back then, un-dx'd, thinking "So, what, you can only be employed if you sleep in a sealed silence chamber or what?" and then like a decade later realized not everyone has these issues discussed here lol

    I was DX'd ADHD by a psych during pandemic. It fit, but didn't answer it all. Then I started watching AuDHD content (including Ella here!!!) and finally came to realize it was the ONLY community that hits 100%. Not the Borderline ppl, not the ADHD only ppl, not the Autism only ppl, not the schizoid ppl, not the schizophrenic exp, not the introverted NTs, NO ONE and NO GROUP I was suspecting hit at 100% like AuDHD does. It's gotten to be so clear to me I feel like I can tell the "ADHD only" profile almost instantly now.

    • @vazzaroth
      @vazzaroth 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great video and I'm so happy to have Ella here doing it! Familiar voices/styles are super important for the autistic community and I don't think that's mentioned enough. It can take me up to 20m to 'adjust' to an unknown person if everyone there is unfamiliar. Twice as long in IRL but for videos, it may take 2-3 before I really 'click in' to a person and then I often want to binge everything they have available then too, since i'm locked in finally. And Molly! I forgot at first but she was also one of the first "I have ADHD DX'd, what does this MEAN" channels that I found I related to... so no surprise it turns out AuDHD, same deal as Ella but the other way around. Ella was in my "If I'm autistic, it's like Ella" folder, then she came out as AuDHD and it was a huge revelation for me and that's when I looked for more people ID'iong as this. Yo Sam is the other main one. By triangulating in this way, I'm about 95% sure on AuDHD, not JUST ADHD alone. When I watch ADHD content that's about coping with work, how people treat you, "Out there" issues, it's me 100%. When I watch autistic videos about how their brain works... it's also me 100%. Like Molly said, I have real struggles being 'present' in the current moment b/c I've learned how to be 5 steps ahead of the guy that thinks he's always 3 steps ahead of everyone else. Otherwise I wouldn't be employed, wouldn't have graduated (Very close call w/ my Dyscalculia too), wouldn't be able to function in society. But it turns out, having to be that on guard 24/7 burns out your actual physical brain! X__X All the people that called me lazy, thought I wasn't trying, assumed I wasn't 'applying' myself would have their brain melt in just 1 day of trying to do all the extreme BS I've had to do just to hit the bottom 30% of 'normal'. (And TBH some of those people were in the bottom 10% of normal themselves if you ask me)

  • @vazzaroth
    @vazzaroth 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I used to be like "I mean I like video games, but most guys my age do". Then I noticed over and over that guys my age enjoy PLAYING games. Maybe they enjoy following news. They don't literally overlay UIs over their IRL life with their imagination, they don't speak to themselves in game design manual vocabulary, they don't have an encyclopedia of game mechanics and best practises, they don't think about the thousands of players all playing at the same time on the server and tries to imagine how best to search each of them systemically, they don't think of time as turn based, they don't assign themselves XP, don't systematize their tasks throughout the day into class abilities, don't think of every human they see as reminding them of Cloud, or Squall, or Mario, or Y'shtola, or that one NPC from Dark Souls 2 you really liked, etc. Turns out... yea, that's "special". Even game designers at nintendo, I realized as an adult, don't necessarily think of their world as one big game like I do. Plus I came to realize it WASN'T videogames. It was GAMES. ALL of them! Board, Card, Video, Gambling even, ANYTHING. With that, I came to realize further my REAL special interest is systems thinking. I read a Systems Thinking manual and kept telling my wife "This is almost useless, it's just so basic. Everyone knows this" and she had to tell me many times that most people simply do NOT think in systems like that, so it's actually super useful for most people. I still can't believe it entirely, TBH. I KNOW I think differently, but It's borderline impossible for me to not think in systems so I can't even imagine what it would be like to think otherwise. I can imagine a system of what it would be like to take action while remaining ignorant of the system you're working with, but I can't imagine a reality where you just "act" without interacting with a system at all, yanno? Now if I could just get over my memory disorder and remember a coding language to actually USE this encyclopedia... -__-; For decades I kinda just thought "someday a programmer will come find me and we'll make the best games!" but nope. Turns out you have to make..... *yeech* CONNECTIONS in order for people to find you. ;__:

    I've just had both ADHD assessments with Clinical Partners, thought I was going to get the feedback call on 5th June 2024, but that didn't happen, it was cancelled and I wasn't notified. I had a complete meltdown that the same evening, I was later told by email that the clinician need more time to complete my feedback report. I now have a new appointment now on 26th June, just 5 days after the feedback call for my ADHD assessment. I'm currently suffering from severe anxiety and depression, have not worked for 3 years now at my bus driving job because of this. I get tood by my mum , who is old school, that it's not good for me to openly talk about my mental health problems to strangers, even friends, but certainly not on social media. I'm hoping I get a diagnosis of ADHD and Autism, as it would explain alot about the problems I've had in my 63 years of life. My problems started very early, I had a traumatic birth, eventually born Caesarean. at 18 months old I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem, I have an underachieve thyroid, and been on Levothyroxine all my life.whether that lead to my mental health issues which started at school where I was heavily bullied throughout my school life, I am a gentle natured person, chatty and friendly, but I had problems mixing at school, I was the school punchbag. its left me permanently scared of men all my life, and I have had alot of problems in my adult life too with people. I take every thing at face value, and ive been repeatedly harmed because of that, last year I was badly scammed, I lost all my money, over £14K. I have a Thai wife, same age as me, who lives in our house in Northern Thailand, I have lived with elderly sick mum in UK, as my work was here, and I can't work in Thailand, I was, before covid came, going to Thailand twice yearly for 4-6 weeks at a time, ive been 3 times since Covid, but not seen here since last July, and now cos of my financial situation, I don't know when I can go back to see her again. Ive started an online digital marketing business, that requires making videos to post on Tiktok, I struggle badly to make those videos, ive made no money since I started this in January 2024, its disheartened me badly to the point I may quite because its stressing and depressing me so much that I can't make any money to get me back to be with my wife and family there, I'm extremely down at this time of writing.

    Whilst this video is interesting, my grandson is autistic and has adhd. His aggressive outburts are increasing at a scary rate, and so what I'd like is a video on how to manage these outbursts. Whilst I realise that the need to regulate is important, when he's punching and biting, where is the line drawn? My grandson is also non-verbal and so can't express what the trigger is, which only adds to the outburst I imagine 😢 but I worry about the outcome as he gets bigger and stronger. I'd really welcome constructive comments, advice, and / or help, please.

    In my early teens, my special interest was The Beatles. I bought all of their cassettes and I wanted to learn as much about them as I could. I even wore my hair like The Beatles.

    The more we mask, the more bad anxieties come to life. It's so so important for us to listen to what our bodies are telling us, stim stim stim and stim. This is one of the important aspects to regulating our central nervous system, just do it. 7 months unmasked and i stim everywhere and while engaging in conversation back and forth rocking, hands moving. I'm Autistic/ADHD, repetitive ticking and also an empath. Let just say there is nothing easy about navigating through it but i have done the other most important thing and that is to accept ourselves for who we are. As hard as it is to do, at the end of my day i am happy with my day and will not let bumps in the road define my day. I have times of calm, like a rainy day where my day is just blah and not productive, it's what i needed for that day. Chasing stimuli from 2 different motors in my head is weird but free!! No more tug of war in my thoughts after the change, heart palpitations have cut by 90% and don't take as much magnesium taurate to alleviate the palpitations. Better quality of life and longer life if we stay in tune with our needs. Thank you!!👍😎👻🤪🌶

    I have been here with three young autistic grandchildren who were very picky and limited in what they would eat. As they've become teenagers I've been amazed how much they now enjoy things like homemade fragrant and flavourful curries, not too hot or garlicky for one of them though. Also homemade Chinese dishes with intriguing new flavours. So there is hope, all those despairing parents endlessly dishing up nuggets or bland beige things day after day!

      I don't know if i have hope left! My son is 11 and still eats something like 5 foods (including cereal). He literally gags if he has anything else in his mouth

    How about you discipline your children correctly instead of giving them a made up diagnosis to mask their behaviour.

    Its because of relentless bullying as well as knowing thatvthe world hates us thdt causes that low self esteem.. we dont naturally have low self esteem.. but then we build up our own self esteem again, by hanging out with our own, and focusing on our strengths, without forgetting our weaknesses

    One mental hospital would give me stuff to organize when I was upset. But that was in 1993. So before they were diagnosing many women with autism.

    I desperately wanted to be a professional figure skater 😅😅😂😂 I knew everything there was to know about figure skating and different figure skaters etc. I also didn’t start until I was 16 lol 😂 and it was me and a bunch of 7 year olds in the figure skating class, lol 😂 - I felt a bit like the odd one out, and I figured (pun intended) that maybe it wasn’t for me. 😅😁 My interest lasted for years though, but I preferred watching it on the tv, reading about it, etc. Good times! Heh!

    I have a journey of receiving a diagnosis right now. It is a tricky situation, because I have depression. A psychiatrist see some traits of social anxiety and adhd. However while I have depression I can't be fully diagnosed with adhd because depressed people also have some level of innatention. Also I have some autistic traits, but my mum doesn't see it. I think that now my psychiatrist is pretty confused but I am glad that I can continue this journey of self discovery..
