Part 2 of the trip that took in Kensal and North Kensington; we continue down through Notting Hill in the direction of Holland Park, taking in secluded mews, old churches and a stop at a boozer patronised by two dodgy 'Aussies' to boot!

Hard men and Faces abound as we travel the Sweeney streets from Kensal to North Kensington - bumping into assorted other dodgy characters as we go. There's a load to get through in this video so I do rabbit on ten to the dozen at times; but remember there will also be a 'companion guide' of side-by-side still shots to go with it at some point, for those that prefer to contemplate the details in...

Continuing the trip that left off near Edgware, we uncover more of 'Sweeney London' from Primrose Hill, down through Kings Cross and Hatton Garden, then ending up at Farringdon and Clerkenwell. There's a lot to pack into this video so it's quite fast-paced; feel free to hit the old pause button from time to time if you want a breather! Hope you enjoy it.

THE SWEENEY Filming Locations - West Brompton & Fulham Part 1
มุมมอง 87Kปีที่แล้ว
Walking in the footsteps (and Ford Consul tracks) of Regan and Carter, we'll explore an area round West Brompton and Fulham looking at how much has changed - or not - since the heyday of The Sweeney. [Part 1 of 2.]
Brought up in Kilburn. These are my childhood haunts.
Shvartzah . Brilliant.
Greatest TV show ever indeed, mate! Great work, keep it coming!!
Katz and Co, next to the robbed Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Ltd, is still there today. Apparently the longest established business in Hatton Garden. You can see shot of it here.
The very spot by the river where you said was the birthplace of your channel, is also where John Shaw actually lived up until his sad passing. His house backed onto that walkway
Well isn’t that fitting :) Thanks!
Brilliant work! Your filming and production are fantastic, and all held together with a superb script. You must put an awful lot of work into these. Well done and thank you!
Thanks so much
Another fine production, thank you. Making me want to do a tour on foot myself
Go for it!
I lived just off Camley street between 2007 and 2012. Big changes then and now.
Ahh the Toni bell ice cream van tune. Hear this so many times late 70s early 80s
John Thaw used to live around the corner from me in Hammersmith. Perrers Rd!
Nice one, I love to see where these shows were filmed. Soo much has changed round this area now.👍
Amazing work mate. I’m loving all your videos!!
Thanks! :)
Well done, this is great work compiling all this 😊
Thanks a lot 😊
That Fiat 130 Coupe at 8:46s is so cool
The first clip outside supping booze, the plant behind them looks exactly the same lol
Haha, you're right - I'd never noticed that before. It's uncanny :)
We`d see them filming summers 75 76 around Shepherds Bush Hammersmith Acton Eusto n Films Offices were only down the road at Brook Green
Have you noticed on The Sweeney, that they only use the same police siren sound that is full of reverb, no matter where it is?
You bastard Reagan! Alright gov, fancy a swift half?
Fantastic, thanks for your efforts in researching this and putting it together so we'll and with good commentary 👍
Love seeing where things were filmed ..thanks !! 🏴🇬🇧
My old stamping ground - back at the time when this was filmed, too. When south London was still a place where ordinary working-class people could afford to live. My parents lived in a council flat in Battersea (off the York Road) where dad was the caretaker. It was one of the new estates from the late '60s. A bit grim then, with a lot of trouble on the estate and a few scallywags around. No idea what the rent was, but it had to be affordable for working people who couldn't afford anything else. One of the flats in that block has just come on the market for rent. £3,500 a month! Around dad's annual salary then. Happier days in so many ways.
I liked it before I even watched it. So wonderful to see another of your fantastic Sweeney locations videos pop up. Again I'm always amazed at your dedication and painstaking research in bringing the past back to life, and in such a casual and entertaining way. Bless you. x
Excellent as usual! Keep em coming!
Thanks! I certainly intend to :)
@ Having visited nearly every Sweeney & some Minder locations myself, I know how hard it can be.
I was wondering if you'd posted again. So pleased you have. These are so worth the wait. I've been checking out some locations for Minder. I love seeing these places now. I can't explain the intense nostalgia kick I get. Star Street is one I've just looked into. Re Winchester Club. Anyway back to The Sweeney! Going forward I do hope you carry on with Sweeney until you've covered all you can! This is painstaking work.❤👊👍 PS Have you considered setting up a Patreon or similar. I for one would donate. This must cost you. ❤
Thanks :) TBH I haven't really thought of Patreon or anything like that yet, but it's great to hear there might be support for that sort of thing if I do in future :)
This is such a well put together video, thankyou. I love the old Sweeney shows and still look out for places when I dive back into SW London. A Minder series would be good too!
Glad you enjoyed it! I get many people asking for me to do Minder as well; as I usually say, "never say never" but I've got a tonne of Sweeney locations to keep me busy for now.
It’s interesting for the fact that these parts that were filmed on the river, especially near Chiswick Eyot was local to John Thaw, who lived in Chiswick. He probably went home for lunch!
He probably popped in to see his old Mum... [Hochmagandy?] :p
It's funny how their missus always looks the bleeding same.
Doing 90 cos They got the word to go
Fantastic stuff. Your efforts are really appreciated.
I love living in Fulham, filming locations everywhere, great video man!
Loving it great to reminisce especially about the Sweeney the greatest cop show on TV.
Absolutely, nothing has matched it before or since IMO.
Looks like the hardest one yet finding the locations, well done and thank you.
Did they ever film in shepherds bush?
Did they ever! Yeah there’s loads of locations round the Bush, Holland Park etc. I’m planning to do one of my next filming trips in that sort of area
@Sweenealogy Thanks for the reply, I lived in Pennard Road from 83 to 86. Back in Scotland now I love your videos, they bring back very happy memories of my time in London. Keep up the good work.
Lovely verandah to watch the traffic from!! You have put so much effort into your videos. Much appreciated by all of us. Cheers
Great vid. Awesome effort. Thank you.
I worked away/abroad alot. The Sweeney, Mi5, OFAH, Carry On got me through the days
is this one of episode were have philips n1500 video recorder pre vhsand betamax been used
Another quality video from you. I don't really know those parts; I get a nosebleed going that far up west. Seriously, I do love these. In the clips of George and Stan tailing Sally Labbat, it looks like some kind of steel strengthening on Hammersmith Bridge; the structure was obviously in a bit of a two n eight back then.
Superb, appreciate the time and effort on making these videos and the fact that you use the unedited footage from the episodes that you won't see on ITV4. Taste of Fear was on ITV4 a couple of weeks ago, so I watched just to see how much they've edited out and OMG it has to be the most cut episode. The pre title intro has been cut from 1 min 30 secs to only just 10 secs, the scene with Carter in the car where he notices a school girl on a bicycle and talks about his fetishes has been completely removed and loads of the character Tim Cook's aggressive behaviour and dialogue have also been cut. I love Minder too and I'm wondering how much of it has been removed by ITV, I've always been put off buying Minder on DVD as I want it uncut as it was originally broadcast.
Blimey; I expected that they might cut that episode, but I didn't realise they'd butchered it that badly. This is one of the many reasons I still prefer physical media like DVD - some executive years later can't suddenly decide they're going to change or remove something if you own it in your own home! As for showing the unedited versions on the channel - you're always wary that somebody might take offense, but the way I see it you tell people what's in there then let them make up their own minds whether to watch or not. Apart from the nostalgia and reminiscing about how much I love the series and the London of old, one of the main purposes of my channel is to document all the things that have changed between then and now - whether that's buildings and landscape or phrases and attitudes; I'll highlight it - I don't see it as my place to tell people how they should feel about it.
@@Sweenealogy100% agree. I've lent my Sweeney box set to a bloke at work as unbelievably he'd never actually watched it and hates current pc tv. He absolutely loves it, especially for the fast paced action, humour and no holds barred dialogue. He also told me he now really appreciates how brilliant an actor John Thaw was, as like me he wasn't into Morse. It's actually scandalous how much ITV have butchered the series. They stretch the picture from 4:3 format to fill 16:9 modern widescreen tv's causing the top of their heads to often be cut off, enlarging the screen size makes the quality look even worse, they even zoom in on the advert break sting card so as to cut off the "end of part one" display below The Sweeney logo - mainly cos ITV have 3 advert breaks during it and "end of part 3" doesn't exist as a sting card. I read somewhere that Network were buoyed by the bluray sales of The Sweeney movies they'd done around 4 years ago and were finally working on completing the bluray restoration transfer for the final 3 series and they'd just gone into admin wih just 2 episodes remaining incomplete. There's a company in Australia (called Imprint) who have bought a lot of Networks old DVD publishing rights, they've even got someone from Network onboard, so fingers crossed we eventually get the complete bluray box set this show deserves.
Slaaaaaaaag.
Love the sweeney got every 1. Great video
Loved it, i hope you keep them coming mate!
That's the plan!
“ Welsh Wales “ that one always cracks me up ! Still the best thing British TV has ever produced, the acting, script’s, score and overall dynamics. Thank you producing another fantastic video, throughly enjoy your work. First Class !
Another immense piece of work. Not too sure why you keep making references to 'season' rather than series ? I thought it was only Americans who used 'season' - listening to this, I thought I'd gone didlo.
Haha, yeah you’re absolutely right. It’s an Americanism that’s become so much part of everyday language now that I didn’t even notice. I’ll try and use “Series” from now on :)
Great to 'ave ya back! Thanks for what must be painstaking work trying to eye up the present day shots - but what I love is that back in the day there was none of this one way system nonsense and a lot of these roads were two way traffic. I've just started watching The Professionals for the umpteenth time ... These programmes really do capture so much lost social history.
At last! I thought you'd forgotten us! Thanks for doing these, nothing like a wallow in nostalgia.
Excellent I've been waiting for your next instalment! I mentioned previously I'm slowly working my way through the Sweeney and am up to Series 4 now...these must be very time consuming to create so thank you for all your effort creating them.
Thank you - hope you're enjoying your series run through! (Well, how could you not.) Yes there's a fair bit of time and work goes into each one, I've not really counted the hours to be honest but it's probably quite a lot!
@@Sweenealogy I was thinking of your comment of getting funny looks while filming these, what you should do is dress up in period Sweeney clothing (kipper ties etc) and give them something to really gawp at 😀 if you can find a Consul to waft around in even better !
An absolute treat ! Thank you Now subscribed
Thanks and welcome!
Fantastic as usual
The Sweeney and Minder , two of the best Tv series ever made . Thanks for the video , love the locations and I know them well as I went to school in West London around the time they were filmed . Cheers
Marvellous, again !
Always worth the wait, guv!
