It would be interesting to see someone paint this with feminine and masculine roles reversed
❤
Thanks so much for making this tutorial! You simplified things wonderfully
Thank you.
Hi injuries really suck!. I had to learn to use my other hand when I got tennis elbow and couldn’t use my hand. Only just found you! Loved the automata video! How is your hand now?. The drawing challenge was a great idea I think I will try it. Possibly left page right page and connect them somehow?
Thank you, I learned a lot.
real nice intro. Thanks for taking the time to record this. Now look for some templates 🙂
Very nice! You said some of it is a bit blurry. I wonder if you could use an adjustable lens to either expand the depth of field or at least be able to move the narrow depth of field back and forth.
Nice instructions. For future reference adding music in the background is maddening for us hearing impaired. I seriously wanted to scream while I struggled to pay attention to your voice. Halfway through I had to turn the volume off and rely on CC.
cool
Sand automata are an obsession of mine. I’ve made an acrobat that worked pretty well and am now trying to make a dancing lady version based on a similar toy from the 1900’s. You want the hole in the hopper to be fairly small, and the wheel can also be fairly small if the thing you are spinning is light. The old toys were generally paper figures with an extra layer of glass protecting them. If you find the right ratio, the figure will perform a long time…much longer than a wound spring toy. Thank you for a great explanation of how these work!
I hope you find Narnia as wonderful as it's author described it
I love your box!
There is a very good documentary titled “Tim’s Vermeer” (on TH-cam) that gives a quite different use for an antique camera lucida. Tim (not an artist) painted Vermeer’s “Music Lesson” using this camera lucida & in a storeroom with natural light, he setup a facsimile of the paintings scene. In the latter part of the film, I believe he added a 3” concave mirror with a focal length of 300mm. He needed more light & it seems the concave mirror gave him a better looking image. Check it out bc at the end, Tim’s “Vermeer Music Lesson” is compared to an image of the real “Music Lesson” & see what you think?
I learned something today, thanks!
What a hardwarn😮😅
Thank you, I needed this.
You are very welcome x
❤
This can be such a time saver for getting the initial sketch down quickly! I'm making one today. Great instructions.
Do you ever stiffen your fabrics if so what do you use ?
Thank you for sharing your demonstration of stitches
Question! Why do you have the white part of the side with the hole in it facing into the box? Don't you want every inside wall of the box to be black/non-reflective? I am building my camera lucida based on you video now you see :) Thank you for the great tutorial.
I like the way it is presented calm and normal with a little bit of a humour :)
This is so lovely and heartfelt. Thank you for sharing it. ❤
My condolences on your friend passing.
I remember seeing something online years ago that was at the Getty. Devices of Wonder. I think it contained an item or two that qualified for AUTOMATA. Actually, everything was fascinating.
Love the wanderer above the sea of fog. Huge influence on the sci fi/ fantasy genre,
Artymous, could you do simple yarncraft - e.g.using a trollen wheel for braiding or even cat's cradle (there are TH-cam videos about doing it solo). I broke my dominant (right)wrist last year though I'm okay now. I hope you are not suffering too much.
Love automata, I have built a number of large model workshops with men wearing overalls working various types of wood working machines. I also built and enjoyed harmograph drawing machines.
Can't hear a thing
Hello fr Ecuador. Very interested ti hear what you have to say but cannot hear because you have such a low volume
Your content is so informative. I really appreciate your research and page.
Thank you! I’m here to help x
Lovely and encouraging video! Speedy recovery 💖💖💖
Thank you!!
Mam your voice is like Discovery documentry and I really like it
I’m glad you enjoyed the film. Hope you subscribed to the channel!
Vast improvement in 25 days ! Now I am tempted to do the challenge myself. (Also left handed! Though growing up there were many things I HAD to do right handed - scissors! As there weren't any left handed ones ! Lol ! ) Hope healing goes quickly!
Have a go! I remember using right handed scissors as a child - always with my tongue out, trying to get them to work properly!!
Now I’m dying to know what you did 😂
not telling...
I’m asking Barney 😂
not good :(
ah, I'm fine now! Thank you for watching!
Noooo! Get better soon! *Sending many hugs*
I'm ok now! thank you for watching!
Is is junk don’t waste your money I bought it sometime ago and I didn’t have a heart to send it back.
I’m not selling them? The video shows you how to make your own at home? Not sure what you mean…
what a lovely piece!
Thank you!
Nobody is perfect! yes!
Yes, it’s having a go that matters!
what a cool process! Never seen these done on fabric before!
It was lots of fun- have a go yourself and show me the results
Nice website! are you selling the original paintings?
Yes I am!
Yes, I agree the world can be beautiful if we only allow it to be. But louder volume please. My favorite is Laputa but I haven't yet seen the perfect Ghibli film yet. So Hayao Miyazaki will have to hang in a bit longer. I'm 70 myself and plan to work just as long.
Yes me too! Can Miyazaki live forever please?!?
Fantastic. I wish I could get to see that exhibition!
Which one?
@artymous6140 the one in Blackpool!
Ha! British nostalgia at it's finest!
brilliant!😇
Haha, it’s a terrible story, isn’t it?!
excellent.
Many many thanks!
This is amazing thank you so much 🤗
You’re welcome 😊
This was awesome! I loved the quirkiness of the story! And your art is amazing! I love it!!
THANK YOU!
I love hearing your perspective and your interpretation of all you saw. And your recommendations will help other artists know where to go when they're in Barcelona. What a trip!
Thank you, we had a lovely time, you must go!
