I have one that I bought a couple years ago. Put a pachmeyer recoil pad on it and it is wonderful.
@@davidadams6855 great guns..under estimated for sure. They shoot with the best of them
So if they turned to plastic containers for safety sake, what about the plastic building up static electricity which is dangerous around black powder?
@@thetexasrat the plastic container would melt in event of fire..no combustion....as far as static...the static wouldnt ignite powder from outside? If its sealed. If metal contanier is super heated in an event of fire...it becomes a chamber that builds pressure...therefore Combustion under heat/pressure...plastic wouldnt allow pressure to built for combustion..would just melt
@@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 I get the fire thing, it is the static I do not understand. Apparently they are prioritizing fire explosion hazards over static electricity causing squib loads and double charges so it would seem to me. I do know that the plastic lid will blow right off easily to vent off gasses where the metal lid would not. Just seems as if less static would build up on metal than as with plastics. But the plastic inducing the powder with static electricity helps it bridge in powder measurers. Powder measures now a days also have plastic hoppers which induce static electricity even further into the gun powder whereby asperating the issue. Not to mention the plastic down spouts are laden with static electricity to help catch the already charged powders, hence attributing in the cause of squib loads in one case and a double charge in the next. The powder now a days is coming in contact with far too much plastic just before and during the charging phase of reloading, as far as safety goes, in my opinion.
@thetexasrat my measures are all brass...not plastic..i do not run black powder through a loader ..its weighed by volumetric measure.
@thetexasrat static causing squibs? And double charges....im not sure that would do that...rather human error.? Tins Acted as chambers and risk of explosions...if a fire broke out...bit would essentially explode...plastic container would melt and powder simply would burn off....big fizzle\poof.. Not sure how else to describe it.
@@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 I personally haven't gotten around to black powders yet. I was speaking of smokeless. I wonder why they do not use brass with smokeless as it would be far safer as far as eliminating static electricity.
Thanks for your enthusiasm and effort in producing these videos. I have an 1886 Cogswell and Harrison 12 bore, originally had Damascus barrels, later rebarelled by Arrizabalaga of Spain. I use 30gram five Hull Imperial game cartridges on pheasant. You would have to spend a hell of a lot of money to get a modern gun as beautiful as this. Regards Graham Kerslake, Devon, England.

Dude this is just made or redone for the US Market..12gauge is very rare in Europe..they use 16 or 18,20 gauge here, and 00 buck is a illegal load in Europe..the biggest load is phesant...and after the 1970 all firearms are banned in the UK.for the public...shotguns are only for few aristocrats legaly there available now.🫡🇪🇺🇬🇧
@@ricksworlddereaux2397 this gunwas built 1908 originally it was reworked in 1972 and re sleeved and re proofed to 3"...this was imported from europe within last yr..... Im in east coast Canada I bought this only within last month
@@ricksworlddereaux2397 id have to say ive never seen an 18g cartridge gun. I own a percussion 18g gun, 90% of the guns intersurplus imported were 12 gauge.
@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 Yes they all produced for the US,and latin American markets, its the biggest Markets for any Gunproducer,.or they source out, because European Smal Arms and Machinery,Cars are supiriour to US ones..🫡🇪🇺🇺🇸
@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 It look too new,for a 115year..piece..and screws also ....its max 50 years old..plasticbutstocks not existed in 1910..🤣🤣🤣and if its altered it not a Antique anymore...
@ricksworlddereaux2397 its a silvers pad.....and bro ...go look at my army & navy video. Damascus.... 130 plus yr old As gd ad cond or better , im.not sure what your getting at? The proof marks certainly tell age.. It started as a 2.5" chambered 12 gauge but was re chambered to 3" and re proofed in 1972 in england. That doesn't change factor the gun was built in 1908?

Interesting idea. However it might be a bit of a challenge to find exactly comparable loads in old vs new shells. Not impossible granted but a challenge as lots of old shells are no longer in their original packaging that would identify what they are loaded with as to shot size and charge weight.
i was thinking about that also , got lots of odd ball shells with no box.
The paper and plastic S&B shells might be an interesting test.

Beautiful blunderbuss. When they finally carve out my cataracts I hope to get a few magpies with mine.
@@kenlansing1216 i was misinformed about some markings however a viewer on shotgunworld forum from France let me in on some history on it. Apparently they were ex quality guns various grades. This 1 falls on the middle grades. Quite happy with it.
I have one myself, and use it for lots of different hunts. It is like you say, the farmers gun. But it is excellent quality. Mine is from 1916, and works like a charm. I see your looks very nice. Less wear than mine. For ptarmigan, this is my prefered gun.
@@leeprimeroessler3277 i enjoy it alot. Ive hunted with it and clay targets.recently i bought a model 610 husqvarna also. SxS 12g.
Hi Rod, I am trying to learn more about recently acquired Pieper Modified Diana but I can't get the forend loose, no button, just a little bone triangle with nub that doesn't seem to want to move. Do you know how it is supposed to work? Thanks
@@georgehogeboom799 sounds like a wedge fastened system...the spring may be seized against the lump and might need a little persuasion.however older wood can crack easily and id recommend spray some PB blaster or penetrant and let soak under forend. Then with long narrow flat screwdriver Go between center of barrel ribs and the top of forend wood and lightly pry and see if it pops off...there will be some resistance do not be alarmed as its wedged in the lump on barrels.. Let me know how you fair out.
Thanks Rod, worked like a charm. Its a 16 ga, and based on your video seems to be in shootable shape reasonably well cared with wear similar wear. Next step decipher the marks. Thanks for great video and advice. ..G
@@georgehogeboom799 your welcome, if i seen marks i could decipher them. Maybe post pics
@@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 tried to send link to pics, but utube musthave censored them. How do you figure out chamber length? Thanks, G
@@georgehogeboom799 they were all 2.5 " chambers as far as i know. Chamber gauges will tell the story though..a gunsmith should be able to do that for you. I shoot 2.5" black powder or equivalent loads. ( pyrodex ) or even Loose 777. Propellant...seems work fine . fiber wads and lead shot only i use.

My old 12ga. was sold by W.H.Hamilton in New York between 1875 to 1885 and made by Dumoulin in Liege, Belgium. Some day I'll make some rounds and try it. Lee Thompson, Indianapolis.
I put a rear sight on mine, Lancaster style just behind the wedding band, really helped my shooting. Sold the gun as I like my TFC better and it too has a Lancaster rear sight a bit behind the wedding band band. Built a Lancaster style smooth rifle 1770s…. With a Lancaster rear sight just a little back from the wedding band band
Very nice.

Crikey!!! Zoom the fuck out

Zoom out? Why? I use gd quality video for a reason?
Nice old fowling piece.
Its a great old gun. Still takes birds and rabbits!
To anyone viewing this, these are low pressure guns. Modern ammunition generating chamber pressures greater than 9,000 psi is unsafe in this gun. There are 2 1/2" modern Low Pressure cartridges being manufactured that will be safe in a gun in good enough condition to be fired/used. Polywad is but one of the ammo manufacturers.
Ive had the chambers opened on it. To 2 3/4" fired slug...buck..and bird loads no issues. Im sure ive had 500 rounds through it since. As far as 9000 psi. Thats not really low pressure..as my loads using hi skor 700X powder produce 6500/7500 psi. Ive fired lots of federal top gun And winchester universals in it.. Absolutely no issues. The gun is as tight as it was when i bought it . In Canada..I cannot find any RST or Polywad loads.. The only 2.5" commercial loads we see are challenger brand and also the aguila mini slugs and mini shotshells. However at a premium price of 45$/ 25 rounds.....
Hey bud how's it goin
